This party was absolutely happen!! It was on the rooftop of the Hyatt Waikiki. There was drinks flowing with several locations to purchase. The music was Poppin with a live DJ. Everybody came dressed and ready to party. There was several awesome costume wearers that night. You could tell everybody went all out for this event. My friend and I enjoyed ourselves and dance the night away. I will be heading to this event up next year, but I will be wearing comfortable dance shoes. Note, bring cash for the bar. There was a $50 minimum for credit card at the inside bar area. But there was a ATM conveniently located between two alcohol stations. There was seating and there was a cabanas that you can reserve for the night. Most of the patron sat along the sides of the balcony. We left after midnight and there was a huge line around the corner waiting to get in. So if you're going to check this location out next year, come early. read more

It was nice to attend this auspicious party for once. I've been hearing about it for years. Gathered with a few yelpers to help fight off the ghouls if needed. I was under the impression it started at 8pm but we were not let in until about 8:30pm. HPD made their presence felt there would be no problems here. The crowd felt pretty tame to me. Maybe later in the evening it would have gotten more loose. Don't know as the next day was still a work day, we had to leave earlier to get our beauty sleep. The roof top setting was gorgeous with the water of the pool changing colors beneath the skyline and starry night. We were the 1st ones to enter affording us a quiet respite to enjoy the moment before the crowd came in. Precious. Two full bars and two dance floors didn't have much people dancing. There were some very interesting costumes worth taking pics of or with. I was impressed with the get up many tourist had. Halloween is no longer just for kids. Did we really grow up? ( As I stare into the mirror looking in the mad eyes of the mad Hatter.) It was nice to see what this was all about. Next year I will be more prepared for the going ons and hope to participate more. Something different to attend than the usual walk around Waikiki. This is now the place to be or so we think... I'm thankful I didn't pay for my tickets. The event starts at 8 and they make you wait till that time outside. They are a little confused which side and made us flip sides when we followed the signs, then was told no listen to us. In the end, we had to switch and follow the signs... Hummmmbugggg! The area was blocked off to guide you up, they check wrist bands. You see the colorful light up pool. Which I dk why they didn't block off, they did have police officers walking around. There's a dance floor further back and a DJ but music wasn't like BUMPING.... a little mellow. In all honesty... this was boring, we left early. I think I'm just too old for this... I wanted my beauty sleep and not be there. Maybe if I was younger and a few more shots down of tequila I may have a blast. read more

I feel privileged to go to a fancy party at the Hyatt. Just to see the cool and creative costumes was well worth it. However, the party lacked organization and the check in crew seemed so confused as to where to direct people. But the security downstairs were so disorganized and did not communicate well with the organizers. This made it uncomfortable and we started to wonder when we were going to get in. We waited for about 25 minutes just to get to in. When we got in, in a way it was worth it. The pool looked beautiful with the underwater lights changing from blue to violet. The DJ played his sets and the music sounded great. Some people danced around. We walked to the back and the hotel set up a bar there. The drinks were overpriced and the the waiter did not give us much of the soft drinks. In a way, I felt secure with the amped up security lingering around the pool area. Unfortunately, the party did not go anywhere so we decided to walk out. The party in the street seemed more livelier than the party at the Hyatt. Not a great time had by all. It could have been better had the event crew planned it with more activities. read more

I had a super fun Halloween at the Hyatt party! I'm glad I checked it out. In 2015, I went to the HallowBallo Festival in China town and I felt like a sardine. It was so crowded in the streets and packed inside every bar to the point where you couldn't get a drink after 30 minutes of pushing yourself to the front. I told myself I wouldn't be returning in 2016. Walking the streets of Waikiki was also crowded, but fun to enjoy everyone's costumes. The Hyatt Halloween party had great views overlooking Waikiki. There were plenty of bars to order drinks from so I never waited more than a few minutes. The bartenders were measuring drinks so there was consistency and you didn't feel like you were paying a lot for a watered down drinks. There was a big dance floor with a good crowd dancing - mixed ages and backgrounds. There is an ABC store right outside of the party entrance so guests could grab a snack any time they needed which was nice. My only complaint was that there were only two stalls in the bathroom so it was a long wait, like 20-30 minutes! I will definitely be returning here in the future. I would even like to see if there are any upcoming parties at the Hyatt because I had such a good time. read more

Hyatt Halloween! Eewww- what a day!!! About 7 years ago, I worked on Halloween just up off Ala Wai, and all my students were thinking about was going to the Waikiki costume parade. And it was a big deal then... NOW! CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Traffic to get anywhere within walking distance is horrible. 8 pm to almost 10 was horrible getting in huge traffic. OK -I give up and walk some of the way. Then I get to Hyatt. Little trouble listening to the music to figure out where to go. I figure to go to the bathroom before getting in line- which was the best as inside I did not see any bathrooms at all. The bathrooms were horrible= think of a drunk fraternity house that only has 1 bathroom and no maid. Times that by 10. So bad, and even women were so bras as to walk in when men were there doing their business and still kept coming in. The line itself was horrible. If I was a woman alone in a sexy outfit (I'm not btw) there would so many cat calls- that I would not feel safe. Ever girl that went by had a cat call- "hey sexy nurse, hey sexy cat, hey sexy snow white, hey sexy pikacho, hey sexy batgirl, hey sexy poison ivy" and so on... total drunk guys making hots for all the girls. About 5 times, there were different employees that said on bull horns, 'the fire marshal has closed the party we won't let anyone else in.' Bunches of people left thinking this was true. Then I get close enough and the bull horn comes out and they say, 'we'll refund tickets.' Then the owners or someone figures out that so many people want refunds and the money if flowing in reverse! Can't have that happen- so they start letting us in again! How unorganized can you be? Do you know how to count or are you enthralled by big piles of money? So- into the party- I finallllllly got in... There were tons of people everywhere. Tables by this point have tons and tons of beer cans and glasses all over the place. So- I make it to a small little section. I just want to dance and have fun. I got 2 beers dumped down the side of my left arm- thanks btw. I know it was Japanese tourists because of the bowing and broken English of 'sore-y sore-y.' Maka, Cathy and crew were there too- and they said hi and introduced everyone that was new. There were weird costumes, including those that the group pointed out- the Tom Cruise wannabe that took the Risky Business knock off and has lights in all the wrong places, dancing up on the step of the stage. Others were in weird costumes and not enough 'ohh' 'ahh' cool factor costumes. The dj was not up to standards as Skrilix or Kaskade. He was a he and had no voice but would sing over some of the lyrics... "dude, you're not Plumb, Hold on to the need to sing until you get home to your bathtub." Jon Taffer knows well how some bars make music beats per minute to drive people into the bar to spend more, making songs at a lower BPM and saying a leading word like 'last call for alcohol' would make people want to go to the bar. And then he plays a junk song 15 before 2 am so it makes people stop wanting to dance. Then they say the party is closed and everyone should go home. Horrible job of getting people safely out. Tons of people pouring out of a hotel that is not really equipped to handle roudy crowds. There was police on hand but they seemed more interested on the inside of the hotel instead of how to make people safely disperse as quickly as possible. Would I go next year? Yes, but I would be down in Waikiki by 8 pm, drink before going into the party and having a good attitude with lower expectations. All in all a fun night, great tickets thanks to winning tickets from Yelp again. Hopefully Yelp continues to promote and provide great events and co-sponsoring great dance venues. Yeah Yelp! This event was kind of weak. I was glad to score some tickets to get into this event but I'm not so sure if it was worth it. The most that I remember from it was standing in line, and then standing around again waiting for the party to get started. Aside from some of the cool costumes I saw, there wasn't anything interesting happening. On one side of the terrace, near the pool, people were just standing around waiting for something to happen. On the other side of the terrace people were dancing. After waiting for the late evening to arrive, more people started to fill the place. The vibe was killed after multiple rumors of a drive-by shooting that was supposed to occur in the area. Luckily, no incident occurred that night. Overall, I wasn't much into it. I guess it's okay if you're bored and want something to do. I'd say the main event of the evening was the dancing. The featured cocktail drinks were good, but not enough to make you feel like you're having a cocktail. Meh I'd give it a 3 stars. read more

I remember seeing this event from a distance a couple years back and now (Thanks to Yelp) was able to experience the party for my self, up close and personal! We had a lot of fun, everybody dressed in their best, creative or sexy costumes and danced the night away. My husband and I usually park at Fort DeRussy and walk down kalakaua st. but decided to park at the hotel. We opted for self parking for $8 (not bad) but the parking on the 9th floor because the first several were reserved for valet parking was a bit much but overall worth the extra money we were saving to park it ourselves. It was great that Yelp offered free tickets because I don't think we would have gone had we been required to buy them so this was a great opportunity to try the hotel party scene for a change. I loved simply giving my name and easily receiving a wrist band once I was found on the list! I didn't appreciate how the guy checking people in (before you received a wrist band) grabbed one of the accessories to my costume and rudely told me I couldn't bring it in, you have to leave it and he wasn't responsible if something happens to it or it gets stolen (what?) but luckily the security guard behind us kindly apologized and informed us that it would be placed in a bin while I enjoy the party, the bin is stored by security and could easily be picked up afterwards! Great, no problem! The pool, lighting and set up was amazing, but the extra security was crazy, the drinks were to expensive for how small they were (you guys should really be offering drink specials like 2 for $10 or all wells should be $5 a piece not $10 for those itty bitty cups). Next time (if there is one) we should just drink before we go! The Dj when we first got there chose awesome songs but didn't know how to transition them correctly to get the crowd hype (he was kind of sucky at first). I don't know if he switched with someone later that night or upped his game a little but he got better I guess, not all that much though! We ended up leaving earlier than we wanted because of that and the ridiculous prices for drinks lol we stopped by the abc store right when we left next to the party and just bought something from there (it was cheaper and you got more for your money). I was really happy that Yelp hooked me up with free tickets for this event! Woo-hoo, go Yelp! I'm glad that my friends and I got to experience "Halloween at the Hyatt." Thank you very much! My friends and I had to journey our way to the Yelp Eat the Street booth to get our party tickets from Raelyn. We were waiting our turn behind two people who were playing the Harry Potter trivia game with Raelyn. Then out of no where, two girls (one was dressed like Cleopatra, I'm not even sure what the other one was) cut in front of us and talked to a gentleman standing behind the booth. They explained that they were getting their tickets for the Halloween party. He told them to wait until the two people were done with the HP trivia game. What?... Seriously? All together there were 4 of us standing and waiting for our turn, behind the two people. He had to have seen that we had been waiting for about 10 minutes. I don't understand why else 4 people would stand dead center in front of the Yelp booth (with no food in our hands) for 10 minutes if not to complete some interaction there. So, why did he tell the two girls who cut in front of us to go first?... The reason why I'm bringing this up is because this is not the first time I've been to an Yelp event and people were allowed to blatantly cut in front of me by Yelp staff (people who were not Yelp elites). I thought this was Hawaii, come on... where's the aloha? Earlier that day, I went to check out the venue because A] I've never been to the Hyatt and B] it didn't specify where exactly the party was going to be on the flyers. The Hyatt hotel staff at the front desk and pool room were very helpful in answering my questions and assisting me. Later that night, we had trouble finding the hotel's parking structure. We circled the block a few times before I called the hotel's number to ask about parking. The operator was very nice and helpful. Once inside the hotel, I went up the same elevators I did earlier that day, which led to the pool side of the open area. I asked the security guards blocking the entrance there and found out that that was the exit. We walked towards the other end to look for the entrance. I saw more people in a line and found out from the security guards there that that was the VIP entrance. There were sooo many people walking around and standing in line, just trying to get into the event. There was no visible signage anywhere of where the line for regular ticket entrance was. All I heard was a guy with a megaphone shouting from the VIP entrance (I think he worked with the event coordinators?) "This line is only for VIP, everyone else with regular tickets, go to the other line." Okay... buddy, if I knew where the other line was, trust me, I would already be there. Some people in line with us didn't have ticket because they were buying them at the door. I think there should have been a separate line to allow anyone who already had tickets to just go in, instead of waiting in a line to buy tickets? All in all, the event wasn't really organized well, at all... I did like the photo-booth idea but we had some issues with that too. There was a couple who stood there for a good 10 minutes posing and taking picture after picture, while everyone else who wanted to take pictures were stuck behind them. The photo-booth staff condoned this behavior. That was inconsiderate of the couple and I felt the staff should have said something. Also, my friend opted to receive the picture we took as an SMS and a printed copy. Though later that night, she found out that they never texted her the picture, even though she paid for both. She emailed the photo-booth company but they never got back to her about it. Just wow... swindling people out of their money. read more

I wasn't really impressed. The whole event was poorly staged, with an onslaught of large drunk crowds pushing through around 11pm that it seemed like a mess. Drinks were pretty watered down and ridiculously over-priced... $10 for a cup of ice and a dash of whiskey/sour. Get it? Ridiculous monopoly charge. For the amount of people that came in, it felt like a giant frat party...with limited bars not able to handle the crowds coming in. The entrances to the venue were also very narrow and under-staffed, so lines were particularly long and wrapped around the hotel staircase as it was held at the center of outdoor roof of the hotel. People who left to use the bathroom on separate floors had trouble getting back into the venue. There also was virtually no difference between general admissions and VIP (except for the upsell) since both lines were equally as long. The Hyatt also didn't do much in way of decorating or setting up - a few standing tables haphazardly thrown out and a few plastic tables set up for makeshift bars. The music was outsourced to a local radio station DJ, but nothing wildly riveting. Overall, I was completely underwhelmed for my first Yelp Elite perk event and pretty disappointed. We had to stop by Eat the Street to pick up tickets day of, which was another hassle with all of the Halloween Traffic. Wish I was more impressed. read more

I got free tickets to this event from Yelp. Had I not gotten tickets, I would have stayed home since it was a work night. Pros: -Area was large, consisting of the restaurant area, pool area, and back patio area. -There were multiple bar areas set up so waiting for a drink wasn't too long. -The DJ played a good mix of music to dance to -There was a light-up ring performer which was pretty trippy Cons: -Checking in to this event wasn't planned well and we were confused about where to go. They should have had signs about where to go but the workers there were helpful enough to tell us to go to the back. Luckily, there was no line, probably because it was a Monday night. -Drinks were expensive at $10 each. I also just got a soda and water and was charged $8 :( Overall, it was a good experience especially because I got free entrance. I'm not sure I would attend this event again if it were on a work night, but maybe if I get free tickets again then maybe. read more

I had the best time at this years Heroes & Villians Halloween at the Hyatt Party. I was lucky enough to win some tickets from Yelp (thanks Yelp team!) & could not be more grateful. It gave us a great location to go party at after wandering the Waikiki streets and the vibe was really upbeat. We wound up not arriving til later after the costume contest but we didn't mind. We waited in line for about 10/15 minutes which was surprisingly short after looking at the line. There was some awesome electronic dance remixed music playing & tons of costumed dancers jamming out. We made our way through the fun to grab some drinks at the bar by the pool. Beers were only $5 thankfully, liquor was more like $9 but for a Halloween party in Waikiki, these were really deals. There were some DJs and VIP cabana looking areas. We danced away on the night floor with the crowd - I really loved the energy amongst everyone and it got me into an excellent mood. We were WWE wrestlers and got recognized a bunch which was a plus. My friends and I wound up having so much fun we stayed until they closed & kicked us out - we even got to see a bunch of people jump in the pool (which may have been against the rules heh) but it was solidly entertaining. We had a super great Halloween thanks to this event and the hook up from Yelp. See you all next year, start planning your costumes! :) read more
