This place is a little like a factory. I took my daughter…read morehere because she had a hole in her tooth that I thought might be a cavity. It was our first visit, so we were not allowed an afternoon appt (their policy until you establish yourself as a reliable patient who keeps appts) so I took her out of school early. The paperwork was a nightmare! It took me longer to fill it out than it did for her entire appt! I have a major beef: They would not let me come back with my daughter for her session. Hence, I was not able to tell them why I'd brought her in; nor was I advised of what procedures they were doing on her until after the fact. Before I had even filled out the paperwork releasing them to do as they saw fit for my child's teeth, they had already done it! They took x-rays and put some sort of sealer containing fluoride on her molars without telling me. By the time they brought me back it was done and the dentist spent a total of 30 seconds talking to me. Dr. Gould said she had no cavity and he "took care of everything." When we got home I took a look under the light and, basically, what he did was dump "sealant" over the molars, not even filling the giant hole I brought her in for. Furthermore, the molars were not cleaned! I could see on the edges of the sealant that the crevices were still dark and unscraped. No wonder the whole appointment only took about 20 minutes total. Now I have to decide whether to take away precious school time again to get the hole filled properly. The only positive thing I will say about this practice is that they supposedly do not use dangerous amalgams in their fillings (this I inquired about when I made the appointment).

Checked Yelp, and Dr. Leonardson's name came up with rave reviews, so made the call and scheduled my first appointment about ten months ago. I have nothing but praise for him and his staff. His approach was thoughtful and conservative. Coming in knowing that I needed a fair amount of work done (cracked teeth, new/replacement crowns, etc.) he laid out a plan of treatment, prioritizing what should be done right away versus what could wait, and we've been tackling it step by step. If you are anxious, averse to pain/needles/etc. (that would be me), they do a wonderful job of putting you at ease and minimizing any discomfort.

I think I'm something of an expert when it comes to accessing dentists/periodontists/orthodontists,…read moreetc. A baby boomer, I've been to so many of them over the years that a former dentist referred to me as the "million-dollar mouth" because I've had so much work done. It's true; I could be driving a Ferrari--a fleet of Ferraris--with what I've invested in crowns, caps, root canals, implants (5 so far), and more. However . . . all that changed when I began visiting Essex Street Dental. After a few visits, Lori the hygienist had my (red, swollen) gums nice and pink, just like in the toothpaste ads. Prior to that, I figured I was doomed to painful, excruciating periodontal surgery. (At one session years ago, the periodontist injected novocaine into the ROOF of my MOUTH! ) Thank God I don't have to go through that again, although if I ever had to, I would want it to be at Essex St. Dental. Dr. Casiglia is very handy with a needle and probably gives the least painful injections I've experienced. Matter of fact, the last time I was in the chair, I was actually unaware he'd given me the novocaine. This is coming from someone who's a shaking, quivering, nervous wreck in the dental chair. Essex St. Dental makes things easy. They're a one-stop-shop. Now you don't have to make a series of visits for an implant or crown. It's done in one visit. For crowns, they have invested big in what I call a "crown-cubator," a piece of advanced equipment that takes your tooth's measurements and creates a perfect crown--no going back for fittings; it's all done there. Last but not least, Dr. Casiglia also does Botox injections. Like my lengthy dental record, I go way back with Botox. In fact, when I had my first treatment, it didn't have the trademark Botox, it was basic botulism. That was more than 15 years ago and I've been a steady injectee, visiting cosmetic surgeons' offices all over the Boston area. Recently, for a reasonable sum, I got my forehead Botoxed by Dr. Casiglia. Usually I have to return to treat the stubborn crevice between my eyebrows. Last year I visited a Beverly cosmetic surgeon's office and returned THREE times. Nonetheless, the crevice remained, quite visible. Not so with my recent injections at Essex Street Dental. The proof is my smooth forehead. All in all, I have to say that Essex Street Dental's office is friendly, conscientious and professional. They won't let you down. I'm fortunate that I found them.
