The outside of the batter was actually quite appealing, but the inside had the texture that the mushy peas should have had. The review guidelines instruct me to offer constructive criticism, so here is some: even tinned mushy peas would be better than what you are serving. Please change the peas. I don't know if the ownership has recently changed, but for a nigh on £10 meal, this was preposterous. The restaurant is underneath the main shop, but it feels cosy rather than basement-y, with white walls and plush blue velvet curtains. We had some french people stay with us once, and they really wanted to try proper fish and chips, so we brought them here. The fish is always fresh and the batter is nice and crunchy and not greasy. The prices have gone up lately but from what I can tell they have everywhere.
