After reading the comment made by 'exmarine' i was a bit worried about coming through to this guest house BUT, they have had a great re-furd done and the place is stunning. It is very petite and cosy, with the clean smell of fresh paint still lingering in the hall! We had an amazing weekend and would recommend this to anyone who wants to get away for a night or two! I am also impressed to see the appology comment made for the ex marine. Your honesty will be complimented! read more

A warm friendly welcome that's what we got! The accomodation is comfortable with very nice decor You have a good choice of breakfast and every whim is catered for from a full english to egg on toast and vegetarian options too!. It's very easy to find as you enter Filey and not far from the railway and bus stations and the local filling station is just a 100 yards down the road, you are not far from the centre of town but not far enough to hear the hustle and bustle. there are some good restaurants within a few hundred yards if you want a good evening meal. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Hallam Guest house and look forward to another visit soon. read more

Mouldy toast palace. This economical bed and breakfast had the advantage of being very well situated for walks around Filey (including beach walks). However, it cannot be said to have any other advantages. We were not overly impressed with the service we received. Three of us stayed there for a weekend. We were provided with only two sheets to fill out our breakfast orders however, an oversight which we did not mind too much. As time went on, further oversights on the part of the proprietors began to colour our opinion of the place. After filling out these two breakfast orders, (putting enough on one to cater for the third person, who for some reason best known to the proprietors had not been provided with a breakfast menu) we were informed with surprise that we had not ordered very much for our breakfast. (We feel sure that this observation was not meant to come across as rudely as it did). When the time came for the above mentioned breakfast, we were served mouldy toast, not a terrible occurrence in itself, but after we pointed out the state of our toast, we were repeatedly served further mouldy toast. My mother, after spelling her name clearly, and saying how it should be pronounced, was informed bluntly that the proprietor would call her something else. This is not an awful thing to happen to a person, but it did not encourage friendly feelings on all sides, and was not a welcoming thing to say to a guest. We were not issued with further breakfast menus for the following day's breakfasts. It emerged that the proprietors made the assumption that you would like the exact same thing for breakfast on each morning of your stay at their establishment. As this is not generally how bed and breakfasts operate, we were far from impressed. We were given a choice of family rooms to stay in, and the one we chose was adequate for the amount of time we spent in Filey. It was small, but they had managed to fit several beds into it, so you could in fact have fitted 5 people in there to sleep. In the room was a TV and DVD player. At first this impressed us, however we quickly discovered that the DVD player was not in fact connected to the TV, and there was no lead provided to attach the two. The room had an ensuite with working toilet, sink and shower. On closer inspection it became apparent that the bathroom had not been cleaned thoroughly at all. The bathroom was not provided with a toilet brush. Standard of hygiene aside, the size of the ensuite bathroom also proved a bit of a problem. It was very small. The sink was tiny, making things like washing your face and cleaning your teeth a difficult operation. Lastly, although it claims to be a No Smoking bed and breakfast, the place smelled very strongly of smoke. read more

this is one of the best guest houses i've been to. you can escape the busy outside world as soon as you enter the tranquil hallway. the whole guest house is beautifully decorated and has a welcoming atmosphere. not only this but the food is delightful and you get a breakfast menu every morning. the room was fabulous and had an en suite which was very modern and well equipt. the welcoming building is mirrored by the land ladys lovely personality, she made us feel very welcome. the situation of the building is only a short distance from the town centre and beach and so was perfect for us. i cannot falter the guest house and would deffinately go back and do not think i will find one as charming as this one read more

Me and my partner recently stayed at Hallam Guest house with our baby daughter. It was perfect, everything we needed was there for us. It provided cots and bottle warming services for the baby and the rooms were beautifully decorated. Everything was spotlessly clean. at breakfast there was a wide range of food and it tasted wonderful. A 5 minute stroll away from the town and beach just made our visit even more enjoyable. The managers Rob and Maz made us feel very welcome and it was just a lovely atmosphere. I would definitely come again and recommend to all my friends. read more

When me and my partner arrived at hallam guest house, we had a really warm welcome from the landlady which is always a good start, but it just got better. The bedroom was spotless, as was the en-suite, the location was perfect, we had a lovely breakfast, it was simply faultless. We will be recommending this guest house to friends and family, and would not stay anywhere else when we next visit filey. 5 star read more

Wow what a great place I stayed their during the week, because my normal B&B was full. I found the place really nice; the atmosphere was warm and inviting, the bedroom was clean and well presented and the bathroom were spotless, and the breakfast was spot on, as mush as i could eat. |Top marks read more
