If you need car bits quite quickly Halfords is a good place to visit and quite easy to get around.

The showroom is reasonably large and has a good range of models, and there are always bikes available for test rides. My partner has used them for over a decade and always found service and support to be efficient and very friendly. They're not the cheapest, but they do provide detailed invoices so you know how the costs are compiled (giving hourly rates etc). I recently bought my new bike from them and found them helpful, knowledgeable and easy to deal with. There's a motorcycle clothing and accessories business next door (I think run by Infinity), whihc can also be accessed through the bike showroom. The pavement at the front is wide and forms a forecourt, so there's room to park your bike off-road if you want to.

The same dealer has rebranded from JLR Burnham to JLR Slough. It's a huge open plan showroom with a large car park. At the opposite end of the showroom is another big building which is their very large workshop for vehicle serving and repairs. The showroom greeter approached me and recognized me as he used to work in the same company I do but in a different department. Beverages were offered and although I can't give 5 stars without purchasing or servicing a car, initial impressions very positive. The Reading shop is equally brilliant, Max is always happy to help and go the extra mile. The only slight criticism i'd have is it is slightly expensive for tyre changes and servicing but as they are so good i'm happy to pay this.. Especially when they clean your bike free of charge. After using Robins & Day for years and being very happy…read morewith their service,I decided to use Charters Peugeot Reading for the first time as they were more local to me this time. Biggest mistake of my life! I had booked my car in for a routine major service which was supposed to cost £295. But on the day of the service,I was called by the service department saying they had found another fault and this was going to cost me £300 more! As I am not a technician and the department instilled a sense of panic into me and I agreed for the extra work to be done. When I went to collect the car,I asked to examine the part they replaced and I didn't see any defect with it,but I paid the full amount of over £600! On checking the service book I was shocked that it was filled out wrongly by a supposedly qualified technician! it was then that the problems got worse and I began to suspect that the extra work I was told was needed was not actually needed. I suspected the dealership made up a non existant fault to extort more money out of me! When I raised the issue of the unnessecary work and my service book filled out incorrectly with the Aftersales Manager and the Director of the company they were simply not bothered. It seemed to me that they had got their money out of me and were not prepared to rectify matters. I had to question the fact that if a supposedly experienced technician was incompetant enough not to fill out a service book properly, how could I be sure he actually carried out the service or the supposed "repair" competantly? I bitterly regret using this Dealership and I strongly warn everyone to avoid them. I think they are crooks and conmen!!

Wish other dealers took a leaf out of their book. Never felt pressured into buying anything, was offered a choice of cars for test drives and they even sourced a personalised number plate for me. The only criticism (that I can see) is how far out of the city they are. Highly recommended if you're in the Berkshire area.
