Smoky Mountain Knife Works is probably one of the most insane shops I've ever been to. Prior to…read moremoving to this beautiful state, I came here thinking it was just some knife shop...it's so much more than that! You've never truly been to TN unless you've been inside a three-story shop that sells knives and swords of every kind, guns galore, rocks, fossils, taxidermy, and historical collectors items. I found a few WW2 Germany artifacts here and I knew I was in TN when I could buy a Nazi helmet and a gun at the same time (not that I did nor would desire to, but wow). Browsing their mystical "fossils" was fun, too. As a rock collector, I will say that the rocks were overpriced and honestly, not the greatest collection for clarity. What was priced well were the ninja stars. The staff here are all friendly and helpful, none follow you around which is nice because this store is massive and can easily take over an hour wandering around and browsing. If you're comfortable walking around knowing people are carrying and watching the sell of weapons, this store is pretty cool.

Seems like a smaller Bass Pro vs other locations, but I've only been in a couple so maybe it's just…read moreme. Parking is a bit odd as you drive past the store and almost seem to park behind it. They do have a large selection of boats (bass, pontoon, runabout), and a good selection of outdoor gear for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, etc. Some items seemed reasonably priced but many appeared fairly expensive, especially the clothing. It's dark inside for a retail store, making it hard to see the merchandise in some parts of the store. They have a smaller second floor with a balcony view over the lower level. The wildlife display, large fish tank and waterfalls in the middle of the store are very cool. You should expect to be approached by employees trying to sell you vacation packages, which is a little annoying when you're just trying to shop. They weren't very busy during my visit, and only had six customers at the two open registers, but it still took a long time to checkout. It's an interesting store to visit or shop if you're looking for something specific, but I probably wouldn't shop there regularly.

Stick one of those employees at the fitting room because you absolutely have the staff to do that. Finally, Melissa roamed by to let us in and tried to sell us their lifetime membership. I go in the fitting room, walk out in the pants and I needed another size. She doesn't ask me how it's going or try to help because she's too busy giving a 10 minute speech to my (annoyed) husband, trying to sell this membership. I finally changed, went to get my own other size, and we paid for two items and left. They won't give you a bag, but they will give you a huge box. Recycling, I'm sure, but a little nonsensical and annoying. At the checkout, the other woman tried again to sell me this membership. She would not stop when I told her four times that I didn't want it. Management: The reason I didn't join is because of the terrible customer service. It annoyed me to spend a small fortune on two pairs of pants and while you are overstaffed (if groups of 2-3 employees are everywhere, give them a task - who is managing the store? Why the obsessive focus on selling a membership and none on serving people in the store?), nobody is actually helping customers.

It is a small veteran owned business that has been serving the 11 million annual visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains for the past twenty years. My friend's hiking boots literally fell apart on the mountain so we stopped in to check out what kind of hiking boots they had. Prices seemed reasonable and they had a good selection. A salesperson spent some time talking to my friend and showing her the differences between the boots. In addition to hiking boots they carry anything a day hiker could need or want. They had a large selection of T-shirts, hiking gear including hats, ponchos which I really wish we had brought earlier when we got hit by a sudden rain storm, bug spray, sunblock, water bottles, backpacks, walking sticks, and anything else you could possibly want. If you forgot it, they got it! The Day Hiker is conveniently located a half mile from the entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park where some of the best hiking trails in the country await you.

Was also looking for shirts that they had at 2 for $20 and asked gentlemen if they had a certain size in the back but they didn't. However he was nice enough to check for me. It was the days after black friday so I am sure people wiped them out. Had a discussion with the cashier while we were checking out and he said black friday was crazy there were tons of people in there for the dales on Friday. Great place for good winter gear.
