Deceptive pricing with zero transparency. 30 year old water heater went out on a Saturday. Called Haley as we had great service about 7 years ago with out furnace/AC. Emergency repair could not guarantee a fix and with age of water heater decided to have a PM Stop out. They Quoted 2800 and an install first thing Monday. Seemed High, but PM stated its was competitive in our market, so I trusted that. Bad idea. They were here first thing Monday, spent 2 hours installing. Techs themselves were great. I asked for a Itemized receipt. They could not provide it. The PM I talked to over the weekend could not or would not provide it. Went into the office on Monday and they would not or could not provide it. I found you could buy the same water heater from the manufactures web site for 900 bucks. Permit is around 100 bucks so that leave 1800 bucks for markup and 2 hours parts and labor. They replaced 1 valve and about 12 inches of copper. I want to know why I was charged at extra 1800 bucks for this. I have since received quotes from others from 1300 to 1700. Haley's still has yet to return my call to explain what the 1700 to 1800 bucks is for. Do not use Haley's unless they can break down the price for you. If they can't they are likely way over charging you. read more

Don't get a fireplace installed by this company. paid over 20K to have a fireplace installed only 3 years ago and it hasn't worked properly. doesn't turn on half the time, only half the flame burning. Tiles are already falling off. no success getting it serviced when I talk to Haley. always promise to get back but zero follow through even after I went to the store. at the poibt where we might have to replace the whole unit read more

Had a 49 year old, GE, furnace torn out by Haley Comfort and replace with new furnace, installed by Jake and helper, Peyton. Started at 8:30 and completely done and cleaned up by 1 pm. What a smooth and beautiful job was done. Great people, great knowledge, and great work ethic. This is the 2nd time we worked with Haley. This rating is based solely on the fireplace portion of Haley's business. I worked with Pete, who was great. He was knowledgeable, patient and no pressure. After seeing the current set up and listening to what I as hoping to achieve, he very quickly came up with a plan, had the estimate ready within minutes. After considering alternatives, I went with Haley's plan. The demolition process ran into a kink with some mold in the chimney chase. No fret! Within a few days, Haley found a reputable contractor who was able to remove and rebuild the chase within a week! Ultimately, the project was only delayed by a week and turned out great! Tried to get a whole house humidifier installed from them. The person who came to explain the options knew less about the models than I do. I signed up for a model. He gave me an invoice and made an appointment. After he left I noted that the invoice is not for the correct model. So I called them again and after a long wait time was able to talk to the same salesman who finally corrected the order. On the day of appointment, I left work early to get home. The kids and babysitter were home. I called home and talked to the guys and told them that I am running late. Got home 5 minutes after the scheduled time and they were gone. I called them and asked them why they left so early and was told that they had too many jobs to do. Not sure why they had other appointments scheduled during the time they were supposed to be working at my house. A couple of years ago, I had a similar experience when I tried buying a filter from them. I was new to the house and called their number on the furnace to know which filter I should use. They sold me incorrect filter. I later figured out the correct model and asked them to exchange, as I bought that due to their "expert" advice. They refused. I ended up paying twice. Overall, horrible customer service. Will never call them. Shady business, stay away! read more

I had left a review and feedback for Haley regarding my experience and it wasn't a great experience but I was impressed by the personal followup and acknowledgement from the owner that they let the ball drop. I think my experience is an outlier in this regard but I would recommend understanding the warranties closely. They have good technicians and a large staff so can handle just about any HVAC system. (For some reason Yelp is showing my location as Minneapolis but I am from Rochester, MN). Last summer my AC went out and I had Haley replace my AC & Furnace. Unfortunately I went with their most expensive system which carried, what I was told, a 10-yr warranty. As I am nearing retirement, I was hoping this would be the last AC/Furnace I would need. The salesman told me during his sales pitch for this system that I would not need to spend any money on the AC/Furnace for the next 10 years as long as I have the system checked every 18 months, interchanging between the furnace and the AC, at the cost of $100 for these checks. Turns out this includes 3 flat out lies: 1. LESS THAN A MONTH after the system was installed, I had a brief power outage at my house; everything in my house came back up within a couple of seconds, but the Wi-Fi enabled thermostat that is part of the system failed to come back up. I had to pay a $100 service call to have someone come out and hit a reset button inside the furnace. I was later told they would waive that service fee if I agreed to pay $400 to have surge protectors installed in the furnace and AC. I declined. 2. The salesman had told me I needed to have the system checked every 18 months. When I looked at the warranty info for the system, that said I had to have ANNUAL service checks. So I thought maybe the salesman meant up to 18 months, meaning having the AC checked in the spring, then the furnace the following fall, which could possibly be up to 18 months but still annual checks (interchanging between the AC and furnace). 3. I had the system installed last summer, over a year ago, so I called Haley to setup my first service check on the system - the furnace. The person I spoke with told me the service check would cost something like $230, but if I got their maintenance plan, then it would be $108 but in order to satisfy the warranty conditions, I have to have the AC AND the furnace checked EVERY YEAR so instead of having the system checked every 18 months, it is apparently every 6 months. Purchasing a system through Haley Comfort Systems was the biggest mistake I've made. Before my AC failed last summer, I had given my car to my 17-year old son, and planned to buy myself a new car. The cost of Haley's system made me give up my plans of buying myself a new car. I know that Haley Comfort Systems has flat out lied to me, and now just seems to want to bilk me for as much additional money as possible. read more

We needed service on our gas fireplace. It would start up and the fire would go out after a short period. Sometimes it would come back on, and sometimes it wouldn't. We were concerned about safety while using it with this happening, but we wanted the warmth it provided. We called Haley Comfort Systems because a friend had said they had the same problem and they replaced the pilot assembly and it has worked fine since. They came out to give it a check-up, which cost us $99. They would apply this money to any repairs we had them make, if necessary. They quoted us the same repair for our fireplace-replace the pilot assembly and clean the fireplace. The lowest quote was $384 and the highest, with several add-on services, was $768! Just to feel better about spending this much money, we stopped in at Brekke Fireplace shop and before I could finish explaining what we were asking, the guy there said "I'll save you several hundred dollars". He went on to explain that it was the wall switch that had gone bad and that for 59 cents I could go to any hardware store and replace it myself. This indeed was the fix for our problem. I changed out the switch with no effort at all, and at Home Depot it only cost me 58 cents! Unfortunately, it cost me $99 to find this out! Haley Comfort proceeded to call me to "go over the pricing options" 2 times that week. I called them back and told them I would not be using their services any further. They then called me twice more the next week. I called once again to get them to take us off their call list and had almost hoped she would ask me why we weren't going to be using them, but alas she did not. Either they don't know what they're doing or they are trying to scam their unwitting customers. There doesn't appear to be a third option. No matter what the reason, be cautious when seeking services from this company. read more

Tom Haley, one of the owners called me today to discuss my review. I appreciate Tom's diligence in trying to get a hold of me to attempt to resolve this matter. I apologize for my lack of availability and messaging options. Unfortunately, he did not call because I asked to have someone from management or an owner contact me; rather he contacted me due to his concerns with my Yelp review. Before I go on, I need to set one thing straight. Haley did not actually install my fireplace remote as I previously erroneously stated. Another local company did, but I mistakenly called Haley for service after a Google search because I did not recall the previous company's name. I recall it now and will return to it for future related services/products. My conversation with Tom consisted of him explaining his business needs and frustrations with internet reviews, all the reasons why he still believed it was appropriate to charge me for the service call, and his familiarity with my own family's business. Specifically, he advised me why, due to the safety "risks" of even basic troubleshooting during the customer call intake process, he could/would not consider changing the process to help customers like me avoid a service call to simply replace batteries. Suffice it to say, Tom gets five stars for calling me, but zero stars for: 1) only doing so because of the Yelp review and hoping to get it completely removed--without truly resolving my dissatisfaction, and 2) stating he could not possibly improve the call intake process in any way that could address what I believe to be the very real "risks" in his business--thereby providing a much-improved service. I respect there are many liabilities and risks within his industry needing to be managed effectively--just, in my opinion, not in spite of providing great customer service. I think it's simple ... I had a bad experience with the Haley customer call intake process--which I believe unnecessarily caused a service call, and, therefore, warranted at least a partial refund. In the long run, I believe resolving my dissatisfaction and truly considering how to improve their service was worth more to Haley than the $99 service fee collected. I wish I had a better result to share. In the end, we "agreed to disagree," my payment will not be refunded, and they are likely not going to change their customer call intake process for future customers with simple needs like mine. NOTE: If you call for service, be certain you understand they will not troubleshoot even simple battery replacement or "flip of a switch-type" needs--which I liken to a computer or TV company asking you if your device is "plugged in" before scheduling a technician for a costly (time and $$) home visit. read more

We had a punctured pipe, and it was spraying water on our basement wall. This happened the day before the 4th of July and two days before we had to leave for a long vacation out of the country. The few plumbers whom I got a hold of on that afternoon were quick to point out that their services, given the day and circumstance required a cost much more than what they normally charged, which I found to be unprofessional. Then, I called Haley Comfort Services. The lady who took my call was caring and sensitive to our needs and within half an hour got us a plumber in our house. This plumber turned out to be non other than the cheerful master plumber himself Bob Gander, who operated a plumbing and heating business and had done work for us before. Bob replaced the punctured pipe immediately. He even showed me how to shut off the main water line for whenever we go on vacations and shared information on other stuff related to home maintenance. He basically saved us from our predicament at that time, and we left for our vacation feeling relieved and secured about the condition of the plumbing in our basement. The cost to replace the broken pipe was actually very affordable and nothing compared to the terrifying figures quoted by the other guys I talked to on the phone before. On top of all these, Bob, after finishing a great job, had the time to engaged me in a pleasant conversation about interesting stuff. I'll gladly buy him a beer whenever I get the chance. read more

Recently purchased a home in Rochester and called Haley for to replace a vent hood in my kitchen and move the washer/dryer connections in my laundry room. Firstly I should say I commend Haley for having a courteous staff; everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. Initially three different people came out at different times just to provide a quote on these two services, which were eventually performed by five additional people. The vent hood replacement was quoted at "$200-$300" and I was told there could be challenges with the installation. The installation was actually easier than expected and completed in under 2 hours, yet the bill ended up at $400. Moving the electrical outlets in my laundry room was performed as an outside/exposed electrical duct and was $500 for less than two hours labor and minimal parts. The washer/dryer plumbing and vent moving required minimal effort/time yet was $700. Somehow the wiring still interfered with the plumbing even though the work was done by the same company at the same time. And although I was told the drywall damage that resulted from their work would not be included in the quote, I find that to be a lame policy. Haley quotes premium prices yet apparently is comfortable with substandard results. Eight different people, three different invoices, resulting in a total lack of efficiency and consistency. This is a reputable business with an impressive showroom but it seems apparent that Haley Comfort System's growth is at the expense of its customers who end up paying for their extraneous resources. What is the benefit in using one multi-service company if the customer ends up going through all the hassle and greater expense than using multiple service-specific companies?? read more

They have done our fireplace, replaced our furnace, added an air exchange and just recently, a new air conditioner. We feel they are very trustworthy and backup their product 100%. GET A SECOND OPINION. The technician came a week ago for a clogged filter, supposedly ran a full diagnostic showing no other problems and charged $100 for the equivalent of changing a filter and turning the system off and then on again. Today, the technician tells me that both the limit switch and my thermostat are bad. They asked for $300 for a limit switch exchange (less than $20 part and less than an hour work, I've done them myself), and they want $240 to install a $60 thermostat (also less than an hour to do). Their excuse is that their prices are NOT time-based, like with cars or all of the other comfort system companies I have worked with. When I ask if they install smart thermostats, they charge $600 to install a $160 part, which takes no more time to install than the $60 part. They also want to charge an additional $100 for their second diagnostic in 1 week. Speaking with their office, they refused to wave the second diagnostic charge, and their only excuse was "sometimes when you fix one thing, new problems come up"... which literally does not make sense if they did their job properly. Especially when the limit switch is designed to be replaced after a system overheats. It functions like the thermostat in your car, which must be exchanged if your car overheats. Had they simply apologized for not catching it the time before and waved the additional diagnostic, I could understand. But their explanations do not match reality. The office was trying to deceive me. I will never use them again and all should be wary. read more
