I stopped by Halach Huinic on my way back from Uxmal and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavor in their dishes. Stopped here on our way back from Uxmal. Very good food and friendly staff. More affordable than the restaurants directly around Uxmal. Hand made tortillas and delicious panuchos. No A/C but lots of ceiling fans and well shaded thatched roofs. Highly recommend stopping here if you're hungry and want a cool drink and a meal after a hot walk around the ruins. read more

Ko'ox janal at Halach Huinic! Great authentic Maya restaurant down the road from Uxmal (you will need a car or taxi but not a lot of $$). Go where the locals go and skip the restaurant at Uxmal (which is also very good, just $$$). Delicious Maya food. Try the pibil or the poc chuuc ("poke chook") and don't act like a sh--y tourist and be repectful. All handmade food. You won't be disappointed (unless you like McDonald's). Vegetarian options. These folks know how to cook. Try any of the chicken dishes like Poc Chuc. It's a Palapa-style restaurant a few minutes up from either of the Mayaland hotels. Good for lunch. We're from California and found everything to be very tasty. read more
