This turned out to be a surprisingly great meal for me. Missing some basics of Japanese cuisine I was really in the mood for sooner Japanese curry (yes, it is different). I saw a review that showed this place has it, and at a reasonable price so I was convinced.
When I arrived I opted for the 3 course menu, but it seemed that you cannot order curry as a plat, and instead must order ramen or a cutlet as a plat. It's okay, I see that as an entree they offer a demi curry, so I can still satiate my jap curry craving. For the plat I choose Tonkotsu ramen, which had me worried because it wasn't even spelled correctly, and when a ramen shop offers a variety instead of one specialized, they tend to all be terrible. Not the case here! Dessert I the server choose apple gyoza for me.
The curry was incredible, immediately upon placing in from of me, the smell took me back to Japan. I'll return for a curry dish before I leave Lyon. The tonkotsu ramen broth was phenomenal, a bummer the yolk in the egg was fully cooked. There only true problem with this dish was that the noodles were overcooked. When you make ramen you already account for a smaller cook time on noodles do to then continuing to cook and bloat in the broth. Not only was this not accounted for, but they were lifelessly over cooked noodles. If this were a pure ramen shop, minus 2 stars immediately. Alas, I forgive them this time. I will simply requested my noodles barely cooked in the future. The apple gyoza were okay, not incredible, but okay. All of this for 14.50€
If you're wondering why I chose 5 stars for this, it's because the curry and the tonkotsu broth were phenomenal. Could the curry have been out of s box? Maybe. Doesn't matter, still great. read more
