They had run out of the doner kabab, which I heard was good, so I ordered the lamb kabob. Wow, it was incredible! For dessert I had the vanilla pudding with dondurma (ice cream), delicious! My favorite dessert was my friend's kunefe...SOOO yummy! Our server, Senol Morkoc, did a wonderful job accommodating our needs and provided excellent service. I definitely plan on returning!

*Tavuk Göğsü* is a traditional Turkish dessert made from chicken breast, milk, sugar, and rice…read moreflour or cornstarch. Despite its unusual ingredient -- finely shredded chicken breast -- the dessert has a smooth, creamy texture and a subtly sweet taste without any noticeable chicken flavor. The meat is cooked, shredded, and incorporated into the pudding mixture to give it a unique chewy consistency. It's often dusted with cinnamon or served plain, and it holds historical significance as a delicacy from the Ottoman palace cuisine. when I ate the tavukgöğsü It tasted delicious. However, I didn't feel like it was made fresh that day. The kazandibi was okay.. again it felt as if these desserts were made from days before instead of fresh the same day. Will I go back for sure because they have these desserts that some places don't have but hopefully next time it will taste more fresh. The place was very big. It had a backyard as well as a front yard pretty spacious. The servers were nice too.

It's hard to list cons for warm desserts unless it's like eating sugar. The desserts were amazing. They do offer different types of baklava being pistachio or walnuts so may sure you pay attention to what you are ordering. As for the kunefe, this is definitely something different. I ordered it because everyone was ordering it. It was heavy, definitely over 1000 calories but totally worth it.

This place is so good and one of my favorite places in all of Istanbul for sure. We were taken here…read moreby some American ex pats (now friends) living in Istanbul we met at a Hamam. This place is definitely a local place and is in an Arabic women's school from the 1600s which makes it even cooler. It's like being in an old man's world (I know - ironic. women are accepted too, don't worry) basically. Most of the people who go here seem to be younger, possibly students from nearby Istanbul University, but some older folk as well. I absolutely love the coal and tea guys going around saying stuff like "elma cayi! ada cayi!" and running around with burning hot pots of coals that could probably disfigure you if an accident occurred. The great thing is that a year after my first visit, some of the workers remembered who I was. I mean come on - that's amazing. For someone without a local guide, this place may be hard to find as it basically looks like the entrance to a Mosque. After a walk down a long hallway, you end up in what I like to call the Opium Den, or you know...Erenler. You may be able to spot the coal ovens from the street though. Also, a word of wisdom to the westerners. The toilets in here are squat toilets without toilet paper and cost a small fee. If you are not used to that, then at least carry some kleenex with you (which can be purchased on the street for cheap by those poor old boys). Really though, this place is great. If you want a local place without all the bullshit of Nargile places in Tophane, then go here. It's cheap as hell too and you can get a good cup of sage tea (ada cay).

Just 65 lira for a BIG ol' shisha, a Turkish coffee, and two teas. It's in a cool little room with good ventilation and just on the other side of a wall from a graveyard. It's fricking dope.
