Yes, I'm being lazy, I could do it myself, but it was mum who suggested as she was heading down anyway to get her hair done. I phoned up and I said I have my own hair dye, my lovely uber bright pink, and they said that would be fine and could fit me in that same day. Yay! I was overjoyed as it saves me from becoming very pink and all the cleaning up afterwards. It's like Dr Suess' Cat in a Hat. Hehe!! I've not been to this hairdressers in years as I'm always a bit weary but I have to say they did a fantastic job. I did ask the girl if my hair was as splitty as I thought and she said yes and showed me, so I said just to trim it as well. She asked me how I would normally dye it and how long I left it, so she did what I would normally do, which was great. I am super happy and my skin is pink free. Yay! I do feel bad for the girl who had to wash and blow dry my hair, I could see her fingers going pink. Ooops! Sorry! All in all it was £30 smackers but then I did get a cut and blow dry. It was cheaper as I supplied my own £2.99 dye. It'll be interesting to see how much they charge without the hair cut if I decide to go down this route again, which is extremely tempting.

It's a busy place, with super friendly and chatty staff who do a really good job. There are a disproportionate amount of hairdressers in Motherwell which makes it hard to create a unique selling point but these guys seem to pride themselves on bringing the same customers back and keeping the environment welcoming where you come back as much for a catch up with who is doing what than for the actual haircut. My main problems with the place is that I rarely get taken when my appointment is, or even anywhere near it, which is no good to me thesedays. I have waited as long as 45 minutes before. They also try and pimp extras like head massages and expensive products which makes things awkward when all you want is a haircut. I think they are trying to market themselves as a bit more high-end than they are, with prices that almost match that, but it wont work in Motherwell; far from the most affluent part of Scotland. I'm not against testing on animals for medical purposes, but for makeup and things I just feel there's no need, basically. (I'm not vegan or anything either, I love bacon and cheese far too much for that, I'm afraid!) Usually when I book an appointment to get my hair done, I just go for something through 5pm as A) I'm a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to my hair and B) I never need anything particularly complicated done, just a cut and blow dry for me! However, upon realisation that hairdressers are prone to using products from L'Oréal and the like, I decided to try and find a cruelty-free-esque place that wouldn't break the bank. Having discovered that the Paul Mitchell range of professional hair products is cruelty-free, I checked out their website and used the Salon Locator to find G&S. There were a few places closer to me than Coatbridge, but I liked the website and Facebook page for here as the hair photos looked great and their customers really seemed to love them. A Cut & Blow Dry was also stated on the website as being £20, so I was well in. They have a salon in Holytown as well, but that's a bit further out from where I am. This place is nestled in a wee housing estate in Coatbridge, alongside a couple of other shops/takeaways etc. My appointment was at 9am on a Saturday so there was plenty of parking to be had right outside - but I was informed by staff that it gets seriously busy in there on Saturday afternoons! The salon itself is pretty much what you would expect - a typical hairdressers inside but very nicely decorated with lots of bright pink everywhere, very girly indeed! It's also pretty spacious which is great as some hair places can often feel a bit claustrophobic! I was taken straight away and got my hair done by Katie, who was great. They'd just switched the hot water on when I got there so when my hair was getting washed it was a bit less warm than I'd have liked, but she did make sure that I was ok with the temperature before I got my hair washed. Katie also made sure to only use Paul Mitchell products with me once I mentioned my cruelty-free thing (they also use Schwarzkopf products but hey, nobody's perfect!) which I really appreciated, and she recommended a root booster from them when I said that my hair is usually pretty fine and flat. I found all the staff members to be really friendly and easy to talk to, which is good when you're going to be somewhere for 45 minutes, or much longer if you get more interesting things done with your hair. My haircut was actually £22 instead of £20 (although I didn't challenge it, to be fair) but I still think it was well worth it! I was really pleased with my hair and I felt that my stylist really knew her stuff, so I can definitely see myself coming back here!

This salon is no different, except it's also shut on Sundays and Tuesdays aswell. Strange. It is a small salon, which has been renovated to include a beauty salon quite recently. Although this is not my regular hairdressers, the stylists have saved my skin many times when I have needed a last minute cut or blow dry for a night out. There are 3 full time stylists working there, and the salon is nicely decorated and quite small. The chairs are always full though, as they do a really good pensioners deal. My auntie gets her hair done every Thursday because it's just such great value. Prices can vary depending on what you want, but it is around £20-£25 for a cut and blow dry, which is really not bad at all, considering the competition around the area; Motherwell has so many hairdressers!

However, the impression I was left with after visiting is that David Corbett isn't as fancy as it thinks it is. And quite frankly it's a bit of a mess. The salon's being done up (allegedly) at the moment, although I went here a few weeks ago with a voucher my parents got me for my birthday in August, and my Mum said it was in that state when she went in. 3 months before that. There were wires hanging out in some places, bits of the salon that can't be used at all just now and it just doesn't look nice inside. I know my parents paid a fair bit for the haircut and I felt bad that I'd wanted to go here in the first place. My stylist, Siobhan was really great and I absolutely couldn't fault her, she listened to what I said (huzzah!) and checked a few things with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. But getting my hair done in David Corbett just wasn't really a nice experience overall due to the surroundings. Well, that and the fact that when I went in I was totally ignored and left standing about for a bit like a total muppet. The reason I was interested in getting my hair done here (besides the "fancy" bit) is that they're on the Paul Mitchell (cruelty-free hair stuff) website as being a stockist. I never saw any evidence of Paul Mitchell products, but of course this could be an error of Paul Mitchell's and not David Corbett. (I didn't bring it up when I was there because my parents had got me the voucher so I didn't really want to make a fuss, so again that bit isn't the fault of David Corbett.) If I'm going to spend a bit of money gettin' ma hair did, I prefer it to be somewhere I enjoy being in and know I'm gonna get totally pampered in. Unfortunately I just didn't get that in here. David done my wedding hair in July 2010and my personal experience was spectacular. David done both my bridesmaids and my trail on a Sunday(a day when the salon is closed) to make sure he could spend as much time to perfect the look and our hair was just amazing! On the day of my wedding David came to my house on a Sunday and brought a another member of staff with him to make sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish, which it did. He arrived at 7.30am sharp and had all 11 people finished and looking a million dollars by 11.30am. His passion and enthusiasm for his job is exceptional and the effort he put in to everyone's hair that day was just incredible. My own hair was like a work of art, so much so that people are still talking about it to this day! So I think it's fair to say that no-one could argue with his hair dressing ability!! But having him there on the day was also great, his infectious personality and positive persona made everyone feel happy and he definitely added a special something to the atmosphere on the biggest day of my llife! On the day of your wedding you want the people around you making you feel special and he certainly knows how to do that in abundance! He even went out of his way and stayed longer than he needed to cut my dad's hair at the last minute. Everyone's hair stayed in all day and night which was amazing considering all jumping around we done all night on the dance floor!lol I can't put into words how grateful I am for everything David done for me on the lead up to my wedding and on the day itself and it's something I'll never forget. Based on my own personal experience I would have no questions about recommending David or his salon to anyone. I have been asked on several occasions for David's number because they've seen pictures of my hair and loved it - in my opinion that says it all! I have always struggled to find a good hairdresser but I really like Joyce's Salon. I went once…read morejust to try it out and I loved how they done my hair. Since then I've been back about 10 times and I always like the result. It's also very cheap compared to most hairdressers and also very fast. The staff are mostly all young women and they give the impression that they are too busy laughing and joking with each other to really concentrate on what they're doing, however thee end results are always good. They are all nice and friendly, although they don't try and make you chat to them. If you're not especially responsive then they just talk to their colleagues.
