Don't waste your time, money, or patience here!!!!
Full disclosure I am a licensed cosmetologist & esthetician; I should've known better and checked for reviews before coming here.
I was short on time and had a photoshoot the next day. So going to a salon for service seemed like a great time-saving idea. Boy, was I wrong
The salon looks legit, although there's no foot traffic and only one person working there. Don't judge a book by its cover is what comes to mind, and this applies to the salon manager/stylist/the only person working in the salon, Sophia Taylor.
I was excited to see Ms. Taylor, a black woman stylist, because I instantly thought, great, I don't have to explain how to blow my curly textured hair properly. WRONG!!! It was amateur hour!! The vibe was straight out of beauty school. What would take me an hour maximum to do my hair, including flat iron, took almost two hours!!!
My hair is shoulder length it shouldn't take that long.
I'll start at the beginning. Ms. Taylor greeted me at the door and escorted me to the sink. The chair was flat straight, flat like a bed. She did not position the chair back upright, instead told me to get up on the chair/bed and where to place my head. This was awkward but not a real problem, though. The next stop is her chair. I sat in a chair that was clearly broken. The chair is positioned forward, so you feel like you are sliding off the chair the entire time.
I knew from the moment she started to blow my hair out it wouldn't be good. But I hoped otherwise.
Wrong again!!!! When she was done, I had a mushroom head. She told me since my hair was natural, it couldn't or wouldn't be flat! Are you kidding me??? (That's not true). I told her that " I CANT WALK OUT LIKE THIS! "She told me the flat iron is not included and would cost $15.00 more. Guess what? It was STILL terrible. $75.00 WASTED. I have zero pictures because I ran home to re-blow it out. She did not get my roots!!!
A few things I said to her during service." You can get closer with the flat iron." "You're not going to hurt me," "it's not a problem, I'm not tender-headed," Etc.
If you are in the mood to experiment... then this might be the place for you.
The lesson learned here is, Don't judge a book by its cover, as I did. Or you, too, will be disappointed.
The one star goes to Ms. Taylor because I liked her, she was a very pleasant lady. read more
