I'm the most OCD person when it comes to nails. I need the polish to be evenly spread, no air bubbles, super glossy, etc. CONS: Yes, it is pretty pricey, but definitely worth it if you are OCD like me. Limited variety of Shellac colors. No fancy designs/nail art. Skip the eyelash extensions. They fall off when you use any oil-like makeup remover. I dont know why they still haven't upgraded since when I get mine done in New York, this doesn't happen.

Ok, ok, at least the entirety of affluent central west London. But still. So, putting aside the fact that this place was pricey (because everywhere else I looked was, too), it was a pretty great experience. I'd gotten a recommendation from my spa-savvy roommate, and was able to get an appointment with no problem within half an hour of my call. When taken inside, the spa was clean and trendy white, and I was given a uber-comfy leather chair to sit in for the waxing. The woman who worked on me was neat, careful, and quite friendly. The end result looked very nice, and there wasn't even much redness! The only area for improvement (besides the prices) would have been if it had been in my own room, as it was a bit noisy in the lobby. Not a big deal for a 10-minute eyebrow wax, but perhaps less relaxing for the girl across from me who seemed to be getting her lashes done. (Side note: I have no idea what getting your lashes done entails, or why it is a category on Yelp. But I'll admit that now I'm curious.) As I left, I found myself picking up a list of their more in-depth treatments. Seemed like a good place to go back to if I ever wanted to treat myself (unnecessarily).

I have been here twice so far and both times I was quite satisfied with the quality of cut. I thoroughly recommend this place if A) you are short on budget and B) have time and patience to sit for 3 hours. I was really apprehensive at first because you know, it's a school. But I was a little short on budget at the time so I decided to give this place a go. But the whole process is monitored and supervised by their tutors. So it feels fairly safe. The only thing you need to bear in mind is that, it takes a lot longer than a normal haircut at a professional salon because they stop at each step to consult with their supervisor. Both times it took about 3 hours and a bit. The person who did my hair in my first visit said he worked as a hairdresser before but was in some sort of retraining. The trainee from my second visit had, however no working experience. So the level of experience seems to vary. So here's how it works. You make an appointment via phone. I believe they run these haircut sessions on weekdays. Show up on the agreed time and date and part with your fiver at the reception. An advisor will consult briefly with each person asking what kind of haircut you would like. They will then place you into different rooms where the trainees are waiting. You meet the trainee who will be doing your hair, and discuss in detail what kind of haircut you would like to get. The instructor will advise the trainee on technical aspect on how to achieve what you want at this point. Once all three parties agreed, they do the shampoo and the haircut begins. The actual cut is fairly standard except they stop at each step to consult one of the instructors to check they are doing things right. I've been satisfied with the quality of cut both times I visited here.

(With a rough dry - a blow dry is a few pounds more). I am gutted that I will soon be moving, because this place is around the corner from me and yet I have only just discovered it! I think that I had ignored it because it looks like the type of hair salon that just caters to the old dears and their set and blow dries. When I walked past there were plenty of blue rinses going on. But then a friend of mine had a hair cut here, and looked fantastic, so I thought I would give it a try. My hairstylist knew how to sort my unruly mop out and give it some definition. She said that a lot of people were under the impression that it was a geriatric hair salon and so stayed away - but once they came in they were converted. Especially for the prices. With my stylist, Dawn, the most you would pay for a full head of highlights, cut and blowdry would be £65.00. Like I said, I will be back!
