This is a second-hand review…read more.. While Spousal Unit and I were on a recent river cruise in Germany I came down with a "code in my dose". This derailed my "eat a sausage at every stop" plan. Fortunately SU covered for me as she went happily a'wandering while I sipped hot tea back on the ship. Her comments on the restaurant's traditional Regensberger wurst: fabulous, especially with sauerkraut and sweet mustard on a brodchen roll. She did not bring me a wurst back (her excuse: "it would have been cold", damnit) but she did bring a jar of their mustard: wunderbar! (One of the couples we met on the cruise had been to the Wusrtkuchl before, and they actually brought a spare suitcase to load up for the trip home!). I guess a vicarious thrill is better than none. Next time!

Then we also had the 6 sausages with sauerkraut. The 6 sausages were cooked on a grill while the whites were cooked in a broth. The 6 are about the size of a US breakfast sausage. We also shared the potato salad which had great flavor. It is must stop if you are in the town as it is the oldest sausage shop. They also have their own mustard. We got a jar. It is a little sweeter but super delicious!

The Stone Bridge was built in only eleven years, probably in 1135-46. Louis VII of France and his army used it to cross the Danube on their way to the Second Crusade. It served as a model for other stone bridges built in Europe in the 12th and 13th centuries: the Elbe bridge (now Augustus Bridge) in Dresden, London Bridge across the Thames, the Pont d'Avignon across the Rhône and the Judith Bridge (predecessor of the Charles Bridge) across the Vltava in Prague. It remained the only bridge across the Danube at Regensburg for about 800 years until the construction of the Nibelungen Bridge in 1930s. For centuries it was the only bridge over the river between Ulm and Vienna making Regensburg into a major center of trade and government. Brückturm (Bridge Tower) is the last surviving of the bridge's three towers. It's very impressive to know the 17th-century tower clock with its dependable mechanism has kept time since 1652.

It has been around for centuries and crosses over the Donau river. A lovely biergarten exists on the other side and the view of the city from this bridge is spectacular. A must visit in town.
