The lady who served me recently probably the owner was very nice and helpful. I'll definitely call in there again next time I'm in Moffat!

Her sprawled out appearance reminds me of these exotic 70s paintings of Amazonian woman with lurid but beautiful painted blue skin and lots of make-up. But enough digressing - Tiny Shiny Things is a wee gem of a jewellery store, and to be hoenst I feel as though its cutesy name downplays the quality of the local designs that they have on offer.They play host to a number of homegrown talent including Sheila Fleet, Tiangus Jackson and the staple of the Rennie Mack collections. Sheila Fleet's jewllery is particularly striking as her simple, bold designs are also very elegant, with their curved contours emphasising their organic inspiration. This shop does sell Tiny Shiny Things but it should be furthering promotion of the amount of talented designers they host rather than whispering about it in a mousy fashion.

I explained to them how much sentimental value my ring held, but they were adamant that a repair was not possible. So, I decided to get a second opinion and visited Smith Jewellers, also in Glasgow. I was delighted when Karen told me that my ring could, in fact, be repaired. She explained that the claws in the cluster simply needed to be strengthened to secure the setting. The work was completed within two weeks, and at a fraction of the cost quoted by the first jeweller. Karen and her husband at Smith Jewellers are such a friendly couple; very approachable people who genuinely care about their work. And, if you're a dog lover, you'll be greeted by their two adorable dogs in the workshop, who make you feel even more welcome! I was so impressed with the service that I also entrusted Smith Jewellers with my late mother's engagement ring. As it was too large for me, I had never worn it, but within two weeks it had perfectly been resized. Once I collected the ring, it looked brand new and beautifully sparkling. Now, I can wear my mum's engagement ring every day; it feels like I have a little piece of her with me, wherever I go. Smiths is not glamorous, in fact when you're walking up the close of the tenement building it…read moreresides in on St. Enoch Square, you might feel like you're in a scene out of Trainspotting. It's rather dirty, there's a rickety old lift with the pull over metal bars and the whole place smells of very strong disinfectant. If you are a little put off by the lift then don't worry as there is a friendly man who works in the lift opening and closing the doors and helping customers find what they are looking for. Smiths is on the third floor and as I said, when you enter it isn't glamorous but do not let that put you off as the people working here are experts at their trade. I used to work in a jewellers and whenever our workshop was full - the rest was sent to Smiths. Many Jewellers in the city centre use Smiths and I have seen Links of London staff here many a time when I have popped in. I also get my own personal jewellery sized and repaired here. They've sized a few rings for me and also taken links out of bracelets, ring sizing is never more than £10 for silver and if you need something quick smart they can generally sort something out for you. Smiths has been in the business for years and even though it's not shiny and sparkly, chances are if you've had something sized from a jewellers in Glasgow they'll have sent it here to save them waiting to get it sized in their own workshops if they're too busy.

I had mistakingly thought it looked a bit outdated, but they've got some lovely, delicate looking rings for as little as a tenner, Ortak necklaces and an interesting collection of second hand gold charms. A lot of their styles will appeal to older generations, but there are contemporary pieces if you look hard enough. Marshalls is also a functioning store that polishes, mends, customises pieces and engraves on request. The business is a Jack of all trades in that respect, but for the casual browser there are both timeless, modern and unusual trinkets to suit a variety of clinetele.

Pryce's hits that spot with my family. They sell some 2nd hand stuff which is always great value and high end quality. Their window is small and old fashioned, as is the shop itself inside. I had my Grandmother's engagement ring which she left me in her Will changed to my taste, from gold to white gold and set on a wider band as a 21st birthday present. It is gorgeous and something that I'll treasure forever, made with care and consideration by the small family team of jewellers here. Also sells baby and wedding gifts, and does clock and watch repairs.

I always say this about shops of this nature, but fairy ornaments etc remind me of the wicca craze…read morethat hit in the mid to late 90s. Perhaps Charmed and Buffy saw that trend flying into my high school, and I distinctly remember my then best friend's room looking not unlike this shop. Shops like Enchantment are becoming fewer and further between, but it's nice that this one still does well. There are little pewter ornaments of delicate garden sprites, elves and fairies lining the shelves of this place, and dangling from the ceiling in abundance. If you're into pixies, healing stones and a touch of magic, then you'll like it. My mum likes ornaments like these and it's a great wee resource not too far from the Royal Mile if you're looking for an impish wee pressie. It's a nice change from seeing green ornaments in the shape of Loch dwelling monsters.

I can imagine this place would be ideal for people who are into alternative healing therapies with their range of crystals on offer and the whole shop has a very peaceful, tranquil feel to it. It's a little bit different to your average shop and I can't see myself ever needing anything from it but if fairy's float your boat, then why not?
