Another interesting stop around Fyn and a must-see if you're in Nyborg, is the city's very own…read morecastle (slot). Unsurprisingly, it's pretty much located near the center of the city, almost literally a stone's throw from the city hall and the police station, certainly within walking distance and (for obvious reasons) quite hard to miss. While it's unfortunately closed during the winter months, you can still travel the grounds outside via a convenient bridge and loop road, making for some wonderful photo ops or just a nice walk to take in the sights. Behind the castle, you can find some old cannons up on a ridge, along with a separate and smaller tower, but there's not much else to do there except gawk at them and take photos, at least during the winter. The castle itself is everything you'd expect, at least from the outside perspective. Moat surrounding it? Check. Cannons? Check. Lots of cool animals to feed in the waters below? Definitely check. I actually spent some time feeding the swans, including the juveniles (smaller and brownish looking in the photos) as well as seagulls and ducks, all of which were clearly accustomed to gorging themselves at the free food and flocked (pun intended!) to us in a hurry once we started dropping crumbs. Even with the castles closed in the winter, which we knew ahead of time, there's still enough to see and do that it's worth stopping by. And really, how often are you going to get a chance to feed swans at a Danish castle? This was more fun than any castle tour would have been anyway!
