They found a better cheaper policy for me after shopping it. I had already paid it so they got me my refund on that and took care of my new policy. I've been with Statefarm for about 35 years at this time. Tried two other insurance companies who…read moreoffered lower prices but who also increased prices every year. The company has always been good to me. When a hurricane destroyed my car and part of our house, the claims process was easy. They've been fair and offer many different discounts. Came back to Maine 3 years ago. Lisa's office (I've worked with her and Kyle) is great! Everything is always taken care of (changing policies, moving accounts, getting new quotes etc) very quickly and professionally. One of the few businesses I know I can ask and then forget about it because it WILL be done. Filed for reimbursement on a lockout today, the check was ready within a couple hours. Awesome!!! I've been loyal so State Farm for a while. As long as I'm here, I will work with this specific office.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. The whole experience was very punishing, stressful, and…read moredisorganized. They waited until 4 months, after my Mother's death to even contact me about an inherited IRA. On my first call, the associate asked me so many personal and intrusive questions. Not even a therapist or doctor would ever ask such personal questions. They claimed it was because the Patriot Act requires it. Instead of letting me work with a local advisor, I was forced to use the advisor who had been working on my Mom's IRA. She was on another coast and wasn't at all a good fit. So instead of going to my local office and getting everything done in a visit or two, this process took 3 months. They want a phone call to verbally verify every little thing. I cannot even count how many phone calls this process requires. Apparently they don't use electronic fraud prevention measures. I had to call them to verify that I did indeed sign the form they sent through My Merrill. The company is stuck in the 80s. They called me so much that I had to finally ask them to stop cold calling me. Tasks that should be able to be completed in minutes, take days. Tasks that should be able to be completed in days, take weeks. I emailed the advisor and associate and informed them that I was very upset by the lack of organization and antiquated processes, the advisor actually apologized and was kind. But, then it got worse. Apparently that email pisses off the man in charge of this branch. Adrian emails me on a Wednesday and demands that we speak on the phone. I tried to tell him that I wanted to wait until Friday and would rather call the associate I had been working with. The reason was because I was not feeling well and had a stress headache and sinus pain coming on. I wanted to walk away from the situation for a couple of days, before coming back to it. I don't know if it's because I was a woman speaking out against his company is what. Dealing with the death of a loved one is difficult enough. When you add layers of bureaucracy, incompetence, and unhelpfulness makes it that much harder. I will never give this company one dime.

In January 2016, I received a letter from my life insurance company that my insurance policy, which…read morewas a continuation policy from my prior job, would be discontinued because the employer was terminating the overall underlying policy. The company indicated that I was eligible for a conversion policy, but it was a different type of policy and it was twice as expensive without twice the coverage. And so I began the process of shopping for another policy via various routes including online. One day when I was at AAA of Northern New England office located on Back Bay Boulevard on a separate matter, I picked up a brochure on life insurance. I told the travel agent that I was working with that I was interested in speaking with someone. She called Robin Tucker, who works in the same office. He was able to meet with me that day. Over a short series of meetings, phone calls, and emails, he helped me to decide which policy type and limit was the best option for me. I was very glad to have a range of options because with the conversion policy offered by the prior carrier, I could only purchase the same limit, only one type of policy, and the price was set. Robin has a lot of experience; being an insurance agent myself (albeit one primarily with experience in surety bonds) I appreciate how important that is. He went to bat for me with the underwriting department on an issue, and pushed them for a decision because I had a deadline with the prior insurance carrier. Also it was really great to be able to talk with Robin in person. I'm very computer-literate, and I do many things online (for instance I absolutely adore ebanking), but sometimes face-to-face is the best type of communication. Robin is personable, smart (indeed a bit of a polymath), and easy to talk with; he can translate insurance language (it's a sublanguage!) to laypeople's talk.
