I'm writing this review based on two experiences I've had. The first (which was actually my first time getting taxes done last year) was WONDERFUL. The lady was quick, efficient, helpful, and I felt confident in her abilities to do my taxes properly. She was one of the senior tax representatives. Five stars! This year, however, was the exact opposite of my first experience. I was given a tax representative that was doing taxes for the first time (I was her 3rd customer), and the process was painful, slow, and altogether unpleasant. She mumbled quite frequently so I would have to ask her to repeat herself multiple times throughout the session. She also had to ask another employee for help multiple times, and when that employee then became busy with her own customer, I'm afraid she may have fudged some things because she could no longer ask for help. I was not feeling very confident about the process. There was also a point where I felt she was condescending and patronizing. She asked what I claimed on my W4, and I said I didn't have one, (as in I didn't have one with me), and she looked at me like I was stupid and said, "You HAVE a W4." Luckily, my sweet guy was with me and explained what she was talking about. I had never filled out a W4, my employer had done it for me so I was a bit clueless but still did not appreciate the attitude I was presented with. I had scheduled back to back appointments for me and my significant other, but after waiting for half an hour and then making it past the hour mark when we finished my taxes, we decided to cancel his appointment. I'm rating 4 stars because my first experience was so great, but I would rate my second at 1 star. If you schedule an appointment, definitely ask for a senior tax rep, because you can request who you get. read more

What is incredibly wrong with these people??? I am 70 with husband in hospice and we are living on SS only. I have done our taxes for 26 years and this is a first that we have to pay $533 even with that Big Beautiful Bull....bill $6000, for which we got peanuts from. Due to being exhausted from my husband in hospice, I made a mistake on our taxes and got a letter back demanding I fix it. So, to help me out for a change, I saw an H & R ad for $99.00, and I called and made an appointment with Barbara. Terrible mistake. I had to pay someone to watch my husband, and then drive 45 mins to her office. I called her because I was lost and I did not want to end up on the freeway, because at 70, for me it is hard to drive there. Barbara was rude to me over the phone, and even ruder when I arrived on time. Before even looking at my paper work she leaned over the desk, glaring at me told me I was going to have to pay those taxes. Then she wanted to charge me $540.00 to even look at my paper work, much of which was done correctly. My mistake was sending signatures that were not original, and putting donations on the wrong line, and then using the wrong medical cost write-offs. Barbara was rude, a bully, and of no help. It was one page to fix and a State addendum. $540.00 for that!??? I am old, but not out there pecking with the chickens. read more

I've been coming to H&R Block for a few years now to do my taxes, I've had good experiences. This year is the second time I've gone to this location, one of their staff members left me a voice message on Friday, I called her back today and the woman who answered me did not seem to understand the name of the person I was returning the call to. I repeated myself and she stayed silent then said I must be calling the wrong location, told her person who left me the voice message said they were calling from their Kaiser creek side location, asked if this was the correct location. She said yes, stayed silent and as I was telling her the name for the third time she hung up on me out of no where. I was shocked, that was unexpectedly rude. I was explaining the situation to her, she seemed to not get what I was asking so instead of trying to figure it out or transferring me to someone else, she choose to hang up. I've been happy with my tax preparation and assistance, this call was just so awkward and rude. I didn't catch the woman's name but hopefully they see this review and work on their attitude. read more
