Went here on my only day off to complete my taxes. Called ahead of time and told person who answered the phone I had several 1099 forms. She set me up for an appointment an hour later with a woman who had no idea how to do that. Was very surprised this was over the head of the accountant that she sat me with but the woman was nice and said she would have someone else call me at 2 pm to help me. 2 pm roles around no one calls so I called them to see what was going on. I was told the woman was busy and someone else came on phone and said I'm looking at your forms and told me the wrong information. Needless to say they wasted 3 hours of my life and I left with my paperwork and have to go somewhere else because on the ineptitude. Unless you have a regular easy W2 that you could probably do yourself on turbo tax I would stay far far far away. read more

My Tax expert is very nice. However, H and R Block have made policies and procedures difficult this year versus other years. I always keep receipts/documentation. However this year they wanted copies of everything which I WAS NOT aware of prior to my appointment. Among other things, I decided to handle this without them. If you use this office, my best advice is to make sure you have receipts for everything in detail. Like receipts that only an accountant or bookkeeper would keep. Wish they would have told me they needed this as previous years it was not necessary. My suggestion is they review Yelp reviews to get an honest accounting of how customers feel. The companies website, of course, is very slanted with 5 stars. Not my experience this year. Not 5 star experience! Also, you can't leave messages on the phone system. Last year Mia filed the taxes and there was a mistake in the company name which she said she would amend the change after I get the returns . Never responded back even after following up through emails and also I called them. The response from the lady who answered my call was we don't amend. She said she would call me back . I've been to to another H&R Block branch (in norcal) prior to this visit. I can honestly say that after last year's visit, it made me rethink coming to H&R Block ever again. However, due to the complexities of my taxes this year, I simply couldn't just do it on my own. Granted, I could've gone to any other tax business but I decided to give H&R Block another chance, particularly this highly-reviewed branch. Boy, am I glad I did! I booked my appointment with Mia, without realizing that she was one and the same as the one mentioned in previous reviews (her name is spelled differently on the website). Mia is an exceptional taxwoman. She's knowledgeable and patient; when I had questions on even my previous year's return, she explained everything step-by-step so that I understood the tax processes. I'm quite satisfied with her work and what she's been able to find for my return. I'm not exactly certain about the experiences with any other tax professionals at this branch, but Mia is currently my go-to tax guru! My only complaint is that the H&R Block cost for doing the actual tax return could have been a bit lower. read more

I'm one of those lazy bastards that doesn't do his own taxes. I relied on H&R Block because they were close to my apartment. In 2009 the IRS falsely asked me to pay more than I owed. Over a year later, I came back when filing my 2010 taxes and asked if they could help me out with this. They made a separate appointment for me, and assisted me as I recontacted the IRS to get my money back. So at H&R Block you're paying the premium cost to have your taxes done, but good customer service is priceless. Their staff didn't have to go above and beyond to help me out, but since I filed my taxes with them, they "had my back." My loyalty is with this branch. read more

It was my first time being there , the receptionist was really professional and welcoming offering water or coffee, and he also was very funny his name was Jonathan .. you don't really see male receptionists so it was interesting. I walked in without an appointment and noticed the promotion . He attended me quickly and directed me to the next available tax pro Luz Valencia. Luz is super sweet, informative , and passionate about her job. I mean for a first time at h&r these two made me feel at home and were professional with their explanations on my refund. Me and my girlfriend decided to try out H&R cuz we're tired of doing our own taxes and figured we'd give it a shot and made an appointment here. Right away Jonathon offered us coffee or water and did his best to make us comfortable. Our appointment worked out perfectly with no wait. Theresa helped me out and Rex helped my girlfriend. Both very professional and super helpful. Our prices for filing were quite different but that wasn't from anything they did or didn't do, matter of fact that kind of proved that they couldn't chose the amount they charge. Besides, Theresa helped me get a nice chunk back and gave me helpful advice for next year and I gotta say, the price of not dealing with the headache in general was worth it on top of the fine job they did. Where oh where do I begin? Let's see...oh....yes...how many confirmation calls in the world does it take to understand that I will be there. It was like a collector was calling me. I spoke to someone over the phone and they tell me to prepare taxes it will be $80. I make my appointment.....get one hundred confirmation calls...and he a down for my appointment. I get there are ask to print out one of my electronic w2's. I put my envelope down which holds my other w2's and get up for one second to get my printout from the receptionist. When I get back to the desk with my tax guy (Michael, older gentleman) my envelope is GONE. So we are looking all over for it and finally he turns to his trash can and pulls out my envelope which clearly states IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION. I should have left then. #1 it was in his trash can with ALL the other trash....a cup... other probably sensitive client information....etc. I stayed and began my taxes and he seemed annoyed from the beginning. Maybe because I am different...idk. So we get to my final refund and i ask why its so small and he condescending answers...."Its just simple math". I let that slide and continue and he suddenly sees a hike in my rates.."oh geez, I hate when this happens, the computer says the charge will be $199.99, so that's what it will be." Ummm why..... "its hard to explain....but that's your rate....if you dont like it take your business somewhere else" He hands me my papers and I leave. Maybe he didnt like thay I questioned my return. Maybe he was homophobic. Idk...I left and I will use TURBOTAX instead. I will also be calling corporate today. read more

I filed my taxes here for 2016 and was very unhappy with the price I paid for the prep service. I contacted the manager Tony who supposedly brought my complaint before his supervisor, but I never received any follow-up. I reached out to Tony again, still never got my issue resolved. I made a corporate complaint and was assured someone from the local branch would reach out to me. No one ever did. This was my 1st time at H&R block the entire staff was friendly everyone seemed as if they loved their jobs. I had an appointment with Mia(after reading great reviews on yelp). Just like everyone else who wrote about Mia i was not disappointment. Mia is very smart and sweet. I also had the pleasure of meeting the new manager Tony he informed me that although he is new to this location he is NOT new to H&R block. I'm not a bitter person who is venting however they are the most incompetent tax office I have ever come across. I've been back and forth from here 5 tines since I have TRIED to file and was charged over 300$ to file. Since I've been working at age 16 I've never paid over 100$. DO NOT GO TO REX. In fact, I had Mia to do my taxes for last year and I am surely satisifed with her work. If you do decide to go to see Mia, make sure you schedule in advance because toward the end of tax season she tends to be extremely busy. Oh! This is my first time writing a yelp review but this is how strongly I felt compelled to do so based on my experience today. I wish I would have taken the time to read the other reviews before going in today and filing my taxes with them. Had I read these reviews I would have definitely cancelled and saved myself a good amount of my hard earned money. I have to agree with the other reviewers, this place is a total scam and a true disappointment! Heed my warning, avoid this place and save yourself some money! Actually, save yourself a lot of money! I sat down this morning with Rex Ransom and he seemed somewhat nice. I asked at the beginning what the fee would be for filing and he said he didn't know because he wasn't sure what forms would be needed. I mentioned that I have 2 W-2's and a 1099-R, it's a basic filing and it shouldn't be that much. I should have pressed the subject more because if I would have known the amount that I was about to be charged I would have grabbed my paperwork and ran out of there like Speedy Gonzales. It took literally 20 mins to enter my info only to be charged a total of $310!!! Are you kidding me? I thought it was a joke but it was no joke. I get that the deadline to file is Monday 4/18, however, this is beyond even having the words to describe how ridiculous the cost is. The amount that I owe on taxes that he came up with is the same amount I came up with on TurboTax (which would have costed me a total of $40!). I am a hardworking single mother and I barely had the money to pay this amount today and no ounce of sympathy from them. I don't know how a business can continue to operate like this. To the other reviewers, I truly feel your pain and frustration. I would never recommend this place to a friend or family or even a stranger! H&R Block ruined my whole weekend and they seriously need to take a look at the reviews being given to them and 1 star is being gracious! read more

Tax Advisor Michael Nielson screwed up our returns horribly - committed a truly baffling number of mistakes. He mixed up the amounts and states from W2s, and replaced the current employer with the name of one from several years ago in another state. He used an old home address in a different state on all the forms despite my having told him it was outdated and having given him our current address. He also used a standard state tax form when he should have used a part-year resident form, resulting in my being taxed by two different states for most of the year (despite living in only one at a time). One of our forms was only partially filled out, then was consequently thrown out by the recipient, resulting in my having to complete it from scratch and mail it in myself after the deadline. For this, they charged nearly $300. The way H&R Block reps click through their screens prevents the clients from noticing errors, and we then sign on an electronic pad - assuming that the information we provided is what we're signing, when in reality, we're signing our names to ghastly errors. This level of incompetence is totally unacceptable, and, frankly... shocking. Now we get to find out if H&R Block will stick by its guarantee of paying penalties and interest due to their mistakes. Bad office practices! Do not have your taxes done at this office!. Rex, Mai and Mike are horrible!!!!!! They say there are tax schedules that you need to have when you don't. And they make their money with the more schedules they do for you. It's called a bonus for them, but you will pay a lot of money!!!!! Mai will try to itemize everything and say that you need to!!!!!! Though different people's experiences will be different, mine was HORRIBLE. Before I start with the review, people out there need to understand how tax services like this work. The "lead" rep, or the most senior ones take care of the "big" clients. The bigshot business owners and investors who have very complex tax situations. Then they throw the scraps to their unseasoned, rookie representatives. The clientelle for them include just plain people who need to report their taxes, but don't have too many deductions or special clauses. I was passed on to one of the less seasoned representatives. Her name was Rosario. It was hard understanding her due to her thick heavy accent, but that isn't her fault. But still, it made things very difficult. Second, she had no idea what she was looking at when I gave her my stock and dividends report. She spent 30 minutes reading and re-reading the documents, only to ask me to come back later once her "lead" rep is in to help her with this. Before even going further with my taxes, she assumed that this was the whole tax scenarioand told me that we could submit the taxes once her lead erp helps her with this document. I had to interrupt her and tell her that I also owned real estate rental property and that I needed to deduct interest, depreciation, maintanence expenses, etc. Rosario paused and looked very very puzzled and confused. She had no idea what items were deductible and how those would be categorized and listed in my tax return. I can clearly tell that my tax situation was far out of her league. She was expecting something simple, but instead recieved a client with multiple deductions and income situations. When I am going to a tax professional to get advice and maximum deductions, but that "tax professional" knows way less about taxes than me, then its time to walk away. Again, like I said.... some of you out there might have more positive experiences if you get one of their "senior tax professionals" but usually when they pre-qualify you they decide whether to send you to the rookies or the seniors from the start. What angers me the most is that I wasted an hour on a sunday morning, and if I was a less educated person, Rosario would have just submitted my taxes as is. I have almost $15,000 to $20,000 of deductions that would have been overlooked because my tax professional was inexperienced. Had I been niave and listened to the steps she told me I would have missed out on thousands of dollars of deductions and probably been audited by the IRS for innacuracy. read more
