Terrible experience last year with Catherine. I have pretty basic taxes. She looked confused the entire appointment and kept looking frustrated because "things weren't adding up." She also cannot use her computer. She kept saying the "system" wasn't working correctly. She ended up filing my taxes incorrectly and called me several days later and left a voicemail with no information other than "call me back, this is regarding your taxes." I tried to call her back and left several voicemails over a week and she NEVER followed up. I ended up having to drive to the office to find her, only for her to loudly announce in front of others in the lobby "you need to make another appointment. Your taxes are wrong and you owe $2000+ instead of the refund you thought you would get." So you filed my taxes INCORRECTLY and did not think this was important enough to follow up beyond one voicemail? What would you have done if I didn't show up at the office? So I make another appointment with her, same issues - no idea how to use her computer and blaming it on the system. She ended up submitting my revised taxes THREE TIMES because she kept clicking "confirm" and the IRS withdrew over $6000 from my account. When I called their office to ask, she had the audacity to tell me "if you didn't pay right away and set it to pay on tax day, we could have withdrawn it but since you insisted on paying the day we submitted you will have to wait for them to return it to you in 16 weeks" like it was MY fault that this happened. Oh and she also printed my tax forms and left them sitting in the shared office printer and never grabbed them until I reminded her on my way out. With all of my personal information just laid out. The manager was lovely and ended up refunding me the price I paid for them to do my taxes but MY GOD don't let Catherine do your taxes. Absolutely clueless read more

The office and the CPA I was assigned are great, but their website is a hot mess. I came across numerous verifiable bugs that caused endless problems in attempting to file. As an example, if you upload a .txt file (which they claim to support) they silently delete everything after the first page. I happened to notice that some items were missing when I reviewed my return, and the CPA had no idea what I was talking about - so I checked the file that I had uploaded and after multiple tests discovered that their website does this silent deletion of the information you are uploading. If I hadn't noticed the effect of this bug in my reviewal of the return, I would have lost thousands of dollars. So - the office is great, but because their software is such garbage, you need to manually review everything, which somewhat defeats the point of trusting someone to do your taxes. read more

Unfortunately I dislike giving bad reviews but the tax advisor Tessie Tugade, never showed up. I waited for 24 minutes. Additionally, nobody was tending the front desk or answering the phones. People kept coming in, waiting, leaving. During times of Covid, they should at least, consider that people have to take time out of their days to drive to a location and meet. I do not recommend this location. I have done my taxes with H&R for years, but at a different location. I decided on this one because it was closer to my house than my office but I still had to drive far and interrupt my day to get there. read more

Dennis has made filing taxes for me so much easier! He's great. Filing taxes used to be so stressful for me because I used to have one of my family members help me and it was not a good experience. Let's just say, I used to hate tax time. Now, I don't mind it at all. Dennis is extremely knowledgeable and answers any little question I have and believe me I have plenty. H&R Block is pretty pricey - it cost me over $400 to get my taxes processed this year but it was worth every penny because it was a stress free experience. My tax filing charge was double this year because I had so many different types of paperwork he had to take care of. This year, Dennie even called me weeks before the tax filing deadline and asked me if I wanted to make an appointment. I was a procrastinator and scheduled my meeting on April 15h and Dennis finished my taxes in time. It's pricey but they're very helpful! Ask for Dennis. I had a really wonderful experience here. Every office person I spoke to by phone or in person was super helpful and kind. The price to do my taxes here was just a small fraction (about 1/4) of what a highly-rated independent tax preparer was going to charge me. My H&R Block tax professional was knowledgeable, professional, a great communicator, and while sorting through my seemingly-complicated paperwork with ease, rescued me from paying a huge amount in taxes that an independent tax preparer thought I owed. The covid protocol here currently is quite good, with privacy dividers between desks and with clear plastic dividers between tax person and customer. As an added plus, the location is easy to get to and parking is way easier than up in San Francisco. Tip: I've had mixed experiences with H&R Block tax professionals at various locations throughout the years -- I think it may be hit or miss in general, so it may be good to ask the staff which tax professional best suits your needs. One nice thing about H&R Block is that four months of the year, you can always phone them or schedule a phone/video/in-person appointment (it's pretty easy online or by phone), so you know you won't be "left in the lurch" at tax time by someone who is too busy to return your calls. read more

I decided to try H&R instead of filing myself and it was definitely a bad idea. I had Patrocenia and she charged me over $300 and couldn't break down why I was charged so much when I asked. I scheduled an appointment and I had to wait because she mistook another person that was there as her next appointment WITHOUT confirming by name and ignored me even though that other person told her she didn't have an appointment yet she decided to help her anyway and never asked if I was her appointment. Another worker had to tell her twice or 3 times that I was her next appointment. She was NOT HELPFUL at all, also really bad at explaining things in general when I asked whether I should itemize certain things or not/ what would be more beneficial to me. Lesson learned, never coming back. If I could give 0 stars I would. My sibling and friends who also go to H&R but not this location were shocked when I told them how much I was charged and how bad the experience was. The people who helped them were way more helpful and they charged way less. read more

I even saved her business card to remember to yelp this. My previous tax person was at the Westlake H&R Block, that my family loved and has been filing our taxes forever had moved out of the state unfortunately. So I thought I would take a chance at Colma. I cannot believe how unprofessional this lady is, she insinuated that I was trying to get over claiming my dependent and my paperwork was incorrect. Seriously? 1. Linda Marshall is incompetent and I have proof 2. Female manager fails/refuses to admit their fault despite my proof Linda advised and did the filing for my ex-wife's tax return. She completely FAILED to meet the requirements of "The custodial parent signs a written declaration." This is mandatory in order to claim dependents as a noncustodial parent. As a result, I have to amend my return in paper format and my ex-wife also has to spend more money and time to amend her return. I will never use H&R block ever again after CATHERINE GO. messed up on my tax return. Didn't put my sons CORRECT name on my taxes which made it appear that I was trying to claim someone who isn't my son. It took them over a month or 2 to get declined to tell me the issue which I had to call multiple of phone numbers to figure out why. Finally found out and gave her a call stating she put the wrong name on my file! She argued back and said no she didn't I told her specifically that I've talked to multiple managers with H&R block and customer service reps and ALL has told me that she put the wrong name. I told her she needs to fix it and rush it. What did she do? She didn't even fix it! She lied saying she did for me to wait another month for it to be declined. I filed my taxes beginning of January. When did I get my tax return money? APRIL. She's lucky I was able to fix it before the deadline or somebody was going to get fired. The ladies at the front desk were able to refund me my 300 that stupid girl charged me for. 300 dollars for her to claim an entirely different person and for me to be investigated. Not worth a damn penny to me. I will be using TURBO TAX for now on. Its a lot cheaper PLUS I get more money back and I can see every single thing that I'm doing and claiming. Do not go to H&R block if you do not want your taxes to be delayed for 4 months. and if you do plan to go, I highly recommend not going to CATHERINE GO. -- AFTER READING SOME REVIEWS IT LOOKS LIKE CATHERINE IS STILL THE SAME. We weren't expecting that much and she made us feel like it was a privilege to pay the gov't so they can take care of us?! She was having trouble with 1 line the computer didn't accept. This experience was terrible. When I called and explained my taxes they offered a tax specialist and service. I made the appointment and showed up. Instead they went from $120 to charging me $300+ saying my taxes were "more complicated" and used exactly the information I provided for less time! Even though my taxes took no more time or effort, they charged me $350 and I had to ask my tax guy about certain breaks etc I'd heard of. He literally did nothing for me but charge me extra. I did not get any break or any refund and ended up owing. Dennis spent very little time with me and did not at all help me with any breaks. The little breaks I received I had to suggest. What in the heck? If I had not left it to the last minute, I would have laughed myself out of there. They make their business on this time of year while either knowing nothing or caring nothing about it! I ended up wasting money to pay more taxes! They were pompous and unhelpful. Dennis was rude like he knew it all but achieved nothing for me in my return. Honestly, worst money I have ever spent. I could have done my own taxes through an online service for free and would have ended up owing the same. Dennis was super rude at first until he decided to blaze thru the process without asking a single question or offering insight into any kind of return. I got way more money back doing my own returning turbo tax (free) last time & was very. Horrifying waste of money and time. Never again. I'd give H&R Block a fiver, but you guys were quite expensive to prep my taxes this year, however ya'll are awesome. Well, Linda Marshall is awesome. She prepped my taxes last year and decided to make her my go to person during tax season. She's very friendly, and double checks what she does. If she is unsure of something she will get back up help to ensure they are filling out the right stuff. What I like about her is her honest input on what she things would be best when making certain decisions. I can't say how much I will be getting in return this year, but if you do have something more complicated than a 1040EZ, be prepared to pay a hefty price. For me, it is something that I do not mind paying since I am quite illiterate when it comes to these things, and I need someone to thoroughly explain it like as if they're teaching a 2nd grader how to understand these things. I do recommend asking questions so you do know what they're doing for you, and you can keep track that things are going as they are supposed to. File early and don't stress over the deadline. Just do your part, go in, bring your paper work, review, pay, and wait for your refund (if you do get a refund). read more

If there is a lower rating than one star, they deserve it. H&R Block advertises extensively about how they will find you the refund because you deserve all the money you earned.....so being an idiot, I decided to go and try them and abandon my usual Turbo Tax. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They quoted me about $102 and when it was time to pay, that estimate more than doubled to $218. When we asked, he said, nothing I can do about it since it was set by the IRS. REALLY?????? So we pointed to their "price list" and asked him where it was posted. He first pointed to 1040A...then realized the posted price did not add to what we were being charged. Then he said, oh you had to file the next one down...the more expensive one 1040 complicated (full itemization). So we asked, but you did not do any itemization----no house, no business, no school expense, etc. Oh ok Ill give you a $50 discount. REALLY????? H & R Block --- you lost a customer and I promise you I will make it my hobby to make sure no one else gives you business. H= Huge & R=Ripoff BLOCK=Block head tax "professionals". The receptionist is rude. She stays on the phone even though there was a line of people waiting to be checked in. Then there was a man asking if we were helped. Obviously if we were standing by the entrance we weren't. I was first in line but he help the person behind me. That was very unprofessional behavior. He was an older man tall and heavy set. He helped us with our taxes last year and this year. He is professional, kind, patient, extremely good at his job, and has a sense of humor. I have always gotten money back from my taxes. I went here because I didn't have a printer or the software to do my taxes and thought this would save some time. It didn't. CHARITY FULLER asked me to confirm things 4 or 5 times before finally clicking accept. When it turned out I owed almost 200 bucks ON TOP of the 80 bucks I owed her, I said the F word under my breath. When after I told her I was late for work she CONTINUED to ask me the same questions 4 times over. On the 5th time of asking if I wanted the check deposited today I said F, yes, for the 5th time yes. And charity got up and said she wasn't going to work if I kept cursing. Next time I will buy turbo tax and will probably get an actual refund. Charity didn't seem to know the difference between having two jobs at once, and switching jobs mid year. She was also 10 minutes late to our appointment. HR BLOCK itself was also horrible. The secretary was loud and talked through my entire session. I followed charity to this office from the old HR block and will not be returning next year. read more
