Was referred to Ashby by my retired former accountant. Didn't know anything else about him at the…read moretime. The trouble started when I made him a copy of my Quickbooks file so he could do my taxes. A few days later I got a call saying he had found mistakes in my files from previous years and had made changes. I had not asked for anything like this to be done, but decided to let it pass since he said he wouldn't charge me much for it. As it turned out he added over $2000 to my statement for doing it. Then, once it was done the file he gave me would not work with my desktop versions of QB, so he said I would need to purchase a new version. I did it at a cost of nearly $600, but when I loaded the file my checking account balance was off by around $70,000, so that file was useless to me after spending 2 grand for a "corrected" file. Once the dust settled about this issue I spent the next couple of months waiting for my refund to post to my account on the date he said it would post, but it never posted. I tried to reach him about it but he told me he was on vacation and turned of notifications on his phone and refused to reply to any more inquiries about it for the remainder of the week. Then today I finally got a reply telling me he was unavailable because he was dealing with his dying mother and work wasn't a priority right now. After his explanation he promised he would deal with it today and find out where my refund was, but I haven't heard from him all day so I texted him asking what was happening, and was told he was in a meeting and hadn't had time to look into it for me. Now it appears that his phone is turned off. Guess I am on my own with the IRS. Hopefully my experience with his firm will give you pause when considering a new CPA.
