Really cool historical structure that gives Eriksberg some unique qualities and ambiance. This is definitely the area of Gothenburg to just sit, chill and people watch in the afternoon.

After a quick visit to the Bohus Fästning (Fortress) our dog and us really needed a walk. And…read morethere's a nice little walk around the Fortress. You can either start south of the Fortress, just by the Bohusbron Bridge (there's a parking lot, 4 hours free) or north of the Fortress at the Ställplats - Husbil Camping and Parking lot (fees apply). The walk along the water and around the Fortress is quite short, but very nice. Sheep roam around free here, so please be respectful of their territory. Dogs are allowed though. There's a bunch of benches with nice views and some water access in case your furry friend needs a quick dip (ours did). If you are visiting the Fortress, be sure not to miss out on this little walk. After visiting the Bohus Fästning and a quick walk we still had some time left and felt like more…read morewalking. This Nature Reserve is just a few minutes from town and offers wonderful nature and forests with only few visitors (at least in summer). Parking is plenty, right by the small lake and free. There are three official trails circling around the lake. One was less than 1km, the other one a bit less than 3km and another one 5+km. Our dog and us followed the medium trail. A wonderful walk around the lake (but not right by it). Through a beautiful and quiet forest. The trail was well marked and is suited for almost everybody, it's an easy walk and pretty flat. At the lake there are several picknick spots as well as a restaurant with a big playground (and free bathrooms). It's a real charming spot so close to town. We were suprised not more visitors were around on that summer day. Definitely worth checking out.

Varberg Fortress was built in 1287 by a Danish Count as protection against the Danish king, who had…read moredeclared him an outlaw after the murder of King Eric V of Denmark. The fotress became in 1305 Norwegian because of help from the Norwegian king building it. Later the Norwegian King's daughter inherited the place, married a Swede and the fortress became a semi-independent Scandinavian state before it became Swedish in 1645. Today it's a beautiful place to hang out, have lunch or just take a walk. Check out the museum or stay at the hostel. Sometimes there are also being held concerts at the fortress.
