We talked on the phone and were able to set up a time for our boat cruise. Meeting at the Riviera dock was easy (he called prior to let us know what he was wearing and what the boat looked like so it was easy to spot him). The boat ride was so enjoyable! We brought some snacks and wine to enjoy while we learned more about Lake Geneva and the houses in the area. The sunset was pretty spectacular too! Thanks Capt Thom! I look forward to another boat ride in the future.

He even gave us all flowers to make a wish on for the bride, it was very sweet! Thom was really knowledgable about the lake and we enjoyed the interesting facts he shared about the various beautiful lakefront properties. We cruised around, toured the lake, and even got to float off the boat in the water! We could not recommend him enough! If we are ever back, we would love to take another trip with him! Thanks for a great day, Captain!

The sunflower bloom is definitely worth the trip and parking lot traffic and walk up the hill- it's simply amazing. Over 500,000 sunflowers will bloom in a one week period! There's a bit of an uphill climb to get from the parking areas to the sunflowers and the farmland, so expect that. This is a free event, so feel free to donate to the conservancy, cheapskates! There's as much or as little walking here as you want. Get a few pics of the sunflowers and go home, or walk around the whole sun field, walk past the oak savannah and prairie, or walk around the whole farm (which is quite a hike)! Bring water, bring a blanket, bring a picnic!

To be honest, I have only ever been to the Pope Farm Conservancy for the sunflowers. But it seems like a beautiful place to stop year round for a hike or to cross country ski. It gets crowded during their sunflower days, so it's best to go during off hours. The Conservancy does an excellent job marking off parking spots and directing traffic. They have plenty of volunteers to answer questions and everything appears to be very well run and organized. People come to take family photos, have a picnic, or just go for a nice stroll to watch the sunset over a beautiful field of sunflowers. However, leave your dog at home because pets are not allowed. The sunflower days attraction is free however donations are accepted. Definitely worth a trip to the far west side of Madison.

This wonderful, glamorous Broadway couple found their way to the sweet little mid-west town of Genesee Depot is intriguing on it's own. Their summer home is lovely. I can feel the parties and good times that surely took place in years gone by. Everything has been lovingly preserved by those in charge and offer a wonderful glimpse into this adored couple's lives. The grounds are the perfect backdrop to the home. The entire estate gives off a quiet and relaxing vibe. It makes me understand why, on their time off, they would long to come home to Ten Chimneys. There were 2 tour times offered. Everyone takes a small bus from the starting point. A talented docent brings you on a detailed journey back in time and into the private world of Alfred Lunt and his wife Lynn Fontanne. Of course, there is a gift shop to visit after your tour. The two ladies are getting up there in age , so we thought the best way to see this city was by taking the trolley tour. The tour cost twenty dollars a person and lasts about one hour. Our guide was very informative about the history of this famous city. We drove by all the important historical homes and markers, while avoiding having to get in and out of the car , numerous times and having to do tons of walking. Parking can be an issue here. The city is also full of lots of hills. So this quick tour was right up our alley by saving us tons of walking and time while getting a more thorough understanding of this city. I highly recommend this tour for people trying to get the Galena experience without doing a ton of walking, searching for parking, and doing a bunch of in and out of cars.

The tour goes by all the tourist attractions - at a slow pace - through Main St and up the hill to the west of downtown. Then it crosses the river and goes east of downtown as well. There are several short stops - not to get off - but where the driver explains the significance of what we were seeing. The tour enables us to easily figure out what to see and do and where things are.
