Beth Israel Memorial Chapel - Delray Beach

When my wife and I decided to pre-plan our funerals, we attended a seminar conducted by Beth Israel…read moreand were very impressed. We made an appointment to speak with the representative named Jacqueline Schuller. We spoke with her and she laid out what would be required. My wife and I had a choice of a funeral here in Florida or having the funeral by north and Jacqueline laid out the costs for both. We opted for going back north. She gave us all the information we needed to make an intelligent choice; what was best with us personally considering all aspects of what would be entailed. After some delays which were cause by family circumstances, (she kept in touch throughout the delays) we were able to meet with Jackie and complete the agreement. Jackie laid out all the prices, what we would be included in our costs. There was no pressure, no incidents of trying to sell us more than we wanted. She listened to our wants and needs and presented us with just what we wanted. Jackie is a perfect person for her position. She is professional, and knowledgeable about everything involved with the pre-planning, giving us pointers on what we should be looking for and what we did and didn't need based on our discussions. She is also very personable and made us feel completely comfortable. She made the "purchase" easy and something that made an unavoidable discussion a lot easier to take. I can truly say that I would refer Beth Israel Memorial Chapel to anyone who is looking for this service and would recommend Jackie Schuller to anyone who asked.

Well, I've finally come to review a cemetery! After all, I've reviewed many medical professionals,…read moreveterinarians, and one service we all will need one day is a place to be buried. Or if you chose to be cremated, a place for your ashes in an urn. Of course your family or best friend may take your ashes and place it in an urn or keep them the cardboard, as delivered from the crematorium. Now believe me, I don't like the thought of dying. And what happens to me afterwards. And all the tacky yelp reviews I'll miss. And the weird people who run for President and actually get elected. Frankly, I've decided that one day I will die, and my loving husband of 50 years will die also. And I don't want him to have to take care of these arrangements while being traumatized by my death. And I sure don't want to deal with his death and family demands when he leaves my life. So we both decided that before 2023 was over we would buy cemetery property, or as we have kidded, real estate. And real estate it is. And like any real estate, its location location location. We didn't even look around at the established cemeteries across South Florida. They weren't our style. If a cemetery can have a style, and indeed, it can. We had taken our own mini tour of The Gardens when they first opened. We sort of just walked into one of their huge buildings which contain crypts, where metal caskets are placed in the wall. Either side by side. Or head to head. And then there are what I like to call the "glass boxes" where urns are placed. And along with the urns family members can include anything about the person they chose. Wedding rings. Photos of them as babies. As war veterans. Performing on Broadway. With their children. With their lovers. Their partners. Their wives. Multiple wives (I kid you not!) just let your imagination run wild. After looking at many of those "glass boxes" I found them fascinating as they told a story about the person's life. And while I tried to persuade my husband to go with that option he did not like the idea of cremation. So, metal casket it was. We worked with Laura T, a family counselor, who realistically, walks you through the two buildings and shows you the real estate. There are 6 levels of crypts and those at eye height are the most expensive. Or you can get real estate on level six, and if your loved ones didn't have cervical spine issues before they are sure to get them if they actually visit you and look up, up, up. Get it? This is a beautiful cemetery. The mausoleums. And the in ground burial plots. This is first class. This is where the folks who drive around in Rolls Royce's and the assorted other $200,000 + cars go to rest. And some of the real estate is priced just for them! There is a chapel in each building. There are many seating areas. There are many niches where a small umber of crypts are located. And those are really expensive. Like being in a gated community of 1000 homes or 10. Hey, it is a different vibe, right? We selected our locations after seeing many. We signed a contract. We are paying monthly with no interest or fees for 36 months. And now we have to take care of the FUNEREAL ARRANGEMENTS. Note, those are separate from and in addition to the real estate you'll be placed in. I can honestly say I liked this place. I mean, for a cemetery. And work with Laura T. She is nice. Sweet. Kind knows her "stuff". Persistent. I'll add photos as appropriate.

My mother's remains were sent to me via USPS and the wooden box was chipped and split, damaged in transit due to poor packing by The Neptune Society. I was sent a new brass replacement urn. I called Lorne and Sons for several reasons. First they were local to me and secondly, they are family owned and operated with a LONG history in Delray Beach. I spoke with Michael and told him about my dilemma, that I needed my mother's ashes transferred from the damaged box to the new brass urn. He was very sympathetic to my plight and told me they would take care of the transfer as soon as I received the new urn. I called back the next day and spoke with Michael again. He told me his brother Patrick would be available to help me within the hour. When I called to speak with Patrick, I was pleasantly surprised to find that he was expecting my call and he was fully aware of my situation and that he was able to meet with us right away. Patrick transferred my mother's ashes to the new urn while we waited. I wanted some Holy cards and he assisted me in picking them out and printed them right away. Patrick also did something else for me that I wasn't expecting. He helped me understand what I was feeling. Because my mom did not want any kind of services after her death I was struggling with the grief process. I didn't have a normal experience with having a funeral for closure. He assured me that with my circumstances what I was feeling, or not feeling was pretty normal. He went above and beyond that day. He helped me and I really appreciate it. The kindness and compassion I received from these two brothers helped me so much during one of my most difficult times. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart.

My wife called because the price seemed exorbitant, and indeed it was, almost triple the other funeral homes. After our father in law chose another company my wife began to receive a steady stream of harassing calls, one after another which prevented her from being able to conduct business. My wife is as pleasant as they come and does not deserve this horrific treatment three days after her mother dying, and we are not even a customer. He created a false invoice and is demanding payment from a non customer who is grieving and seven months pregnant. In researching this funeral home I discovered that he was busted creating false invoices and overcharging even for services not rendered. He is still doing this and he has no remorse for his awful actions. What an evil dishonest man running illegal operations against innocent grieving people who aren't even customers. All my wife did was to inquire into his price for services. . http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2008-09-26/news/0809250595_1_clients-lawsuit-funeral http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2008-10-11/news/0810110035_1_refund-amounts-issue-refunds-allegations

As his executor and son, I understand exactly what he meant about this funeral home while going through the process of burying my mom and dad. The caskets my father paid for were "not availalble" and others substituted. I never received a copy of the difference in the prices between the two caskets. The transportation fees were higher than stated in the contract and had to be adjusted lower. The Rabbi's fees as stated in the contract were $100 higher than agreed to. Even though both funerals took place during COVID - the delays were 10 - 14 days which was unacceptable. My father was right about the owner and his arrogant, sarcastic and demeaning attitude. Since my Dad was a funeral Director for 40 years, he told me - "I know a con when I see one one." He was just too old and tired to cancel the pre-arrangements and start all over again. As for the videos of the funerals, they were delayed over 3 weeks because the owner could not convert his Apple video to Android. Dealing with the owner, I experienced first hand his immaturity, spitefulness and lame excuses for alll that went wrong. My dad was right. Interestingly, they were under investigation by the State and had to refund fees: https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-xpm-2008-10-11-0810110035-story.html
