It's not hard to miss this large statue of three men in the very large and open Rossmarkt plaza.
Constructed to honor the 400th anniversary of the invention of movable type by Johannes Gutenberg.. The three statues on top are of Gutenberg and two of his printers/patrons.
Gutenberg was born in 1395 in Mainz, Germany, not far from here. He began his experiments with printing around 1438 and in completed the first book ever printed in Europe from movable type. The "Forty-Two-Line Bible" was completed in 1455. Gutenberg died in Mainz in 1468. If you're spending time here in Frankfurt, maybe consider the trip to the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz where they have two of these extremely rare Bibles on display. read more
