This is one of the most sought after Sikh Temples chosen to perform the Sikh weddings.I have attended a number of weddings here. This temple has the perfect setting for traditional Sikh marriage. The soothing white colour of the building with lush green background is really awesome. This particular Gurudwara Sahib is huge. When I say huge, it is really big. Built over 15 acres of land in the expensive Nassau County, the main building spans across 30,000 sq ft and it has 20 rooms and 3 big halls. It was formed by the Sikhs residing in the Long Island when they felt there is a need of a larger facility in the neighborhood. They place attracts an average weekly congregation of 200 families from the surrounding area.It is a place where weekly and wekeend services are organised. Since in SIkhism there are no idols, statues, or religious pictures in a gurdwara, the prayer session revolves around the holy book and the eternal Sikh Guru, the Guru Granth Sahib. The Sikhs hold high respect for the teachings and commandments laid down in the Guru Granth Sahib and treat it as living god.. They normally have Diwans(Prayer sessions) on Fridays and Sundays. The prayer session is followed by the Langar(Free food, free community kitchen) in the hall located downstairs. They serve really awesome food. People from all faiths and religions are always welcomed here. I am glad I was able to save this place for my 400th Review!!!

I love the concept, love the fact that no one is interpreting religion for you and you can attain amazing peace and closeness with your culture in the presence of community. So three years back couple of folks got together and formed the association with a motto to set up a place of prayer for Sikhs in Manhattan. Though this is not a traditional gurudwara which is open all seven days of week, but they try to have gatherings(Diwans) thrice a month to have the prayer session. It is a very intimate gathering with less than 100 people unlike other big Gurudwaras. I really like the ambience of the place and it is a place which gives peace to my soul. As always people from all faiths and religions are welcomed here and free food is served during all the gatherings. They always update the upcoming gathering dates on the website (www.manhattansikhassociation.org/ ).

And Langat is served properly according to proper custom and protocol, in a separate hall. The spiritual experience is great, especially on Friday evenings when it's less crowded. They probably need to start getting compostable spoons too. Their parking situation is not that great, mostly on festivals. And I wish the premises were maybe expanded and made better.

Back in 2008 there was a pressing need for a place of worship and communal service to cater for the needs of the community of Sikhs in Jersey City which led to the setting up of "Nanak Naam Jahaj Gurdwara", since then this Sikh temple has been serving the people from all the faiths and religions. This is my spot to go when I am in a mood to pray and need peace for my soul. The Gurudwara is very big and is very well designed and also has a huge parking lot. They normally have the sessions on weekdays and also on weekends too.

This is a very large property with plenty of parking. It does draw some crowds. There is a Sikh Temple right before entering the property where this is located. You will have to remove your shoes upon entering the temple. There are separate changing areas for men and women. There are cubby holes to put your footwear into. I was wearing shorts so I had to wrap a covering on because you have to have below the knee covered. The same is true if you are wearing a tank top. The entire Mindar (temple) is constructed from Italian Marble. There is a 10 minute narrated video about the ongoing construction. You can get a narration device to take with you as you tour the Mindar. The narration tour takes a little over 20 minutes. You can take the tour without as well. Not sure if there is a fee for the narration module but the temple itself is free. The carving and detail is manificent. It's all white marble. There are paintings and mosaic type pictures on the walls. There are placards with some of the history of the movement in India. There is a store on the premises. We did not gave time to go in there. Perhaps next time. However, we did see people leaving with plastic bags which appeared to be filled with food products. This property is huge. I understand that cricket fields may be constructed there. I'm not sure when the entire grounds will be completed but it will magnificent upon completion. By the way, people were very friendly.
