It's been many winters since I've scarfed down a Krispy Kreme, even though there's apparently like 3 locations near Chicago. How the hell was I not made aware of this? Seriously people, why didn't anyone tell me? As I prefer the light, yeasty kind to the heavy cakey kind of donut, when we drove past this KK in Puerto Rico I screamed like an excited schoolgirl and begged Nichole C to pull in. The store was spotlessly clean on the inside and gleamed from the outside. Before we even bought our dozen, I spent a solid 15 minutes watching the in-process donuts make their way down the assembly line. Beginning with the massive batter mixer and continuing on to the "donut shape pooper thingy" -- a highly technical term used in the baking industry -- I was transfixed. I picked out one delightfully doughy torus and tracked its progress through the vertical heat conveyors; once fully risen, it floated along a river of hot oil (looking like tiny edible innertubes!) and finally got coated in a satisfying glaze of icing. The best part? We were offered free samples and I got to eat mine! They had some colorful balloons near the register and the whole place was brightly lit. Employees were super friendly, prices were fair. We got an assortment that included a guava-stuffed donut, plus a few others with custard and various fillings. All delicious. * TL;DR * Krispy Kreme is amazing in its own right, but getting the opportunity to watch the donuts from mixer-to-mouth was almost too cool for my engineering brain to wrap around (at the glazing station I stared way longer than I should've, admittedly. Nichole mentioned "I was being weird about it"). Getting a freebie sample hot off the presses? Well that's just icing on the cak--erhm, donut. Totally recommend.

Sandy Sweetz LLC is located on Northshore Road, across the street from The Avis building in Princess. There's a small shopping strip with parking available in front. Upon entering this small pastry haven, I understood why they call it a Donut Boutique. It's very cute & modern inside and they have donuts . But their pastry selection surpass donuts and they also carry croissants, turnovers, house-made pies and cakes, muffins, along with many other sweet-treats. I also noticed that they have bottled wines and house-made coquito for sale as well. Service was attentive, friendly and patient with my inquiries. This pastry heaven is not made for dining-in and has no seating available inside. I will admit that I was taken aback by the prices, as my 1 pastry cost me $9.50, but I did appreciate that they take ApplePay as a form of payment. Overall, I have high hopes for this small business, because Sandy Sweetz LLC is a great option for sweet treats on Northshore Road Princess.

Will come back again to try their sandwiches: it's a good location and good quality. There's an attached party shop, and next trip I might order a cake. Highly recommend!
