The park is…read moreconveniently adjacent to multiple kids baseball fields, the Tupelo Aquatic Center, the Nature Bend Music Trail, The Tupelo Dog Park, and even the birthplace of Elvis Presley (Museum). The park offers several miles of walking, which can easily be stretched several more, if you combine it with the Music Trail. There's a lengthy Disc/Frisbee Golf course that weaves through both the Music Trail and Veterans Park. There's a splash pad (currently being worked on) for kids, as well as a small playground. There's also a large lake, which state license holders can fish in. Don't have a license? Hop on the internet and grab one (1) on the fly. With particular reference to Veterans, there are markers all over, highlighting Mississippi Veterans and their service and sacrifice(s) through multiple wars and campaigns. There's also a replica of the Vietnam War Memorial.

She explained to me that they had a walking tour as well as a drive through. They even give you buckets of food so you can feed the animals, apparently they come right up to you. I didn't take the tour but she invited me to continue to take a look around. Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves and I didn't hear any wild animals on the loose. Maybe next time I'll take the drive through tour, if things go wrong I know I can't outrun an animal but I can certainly out drive one.

It's a scenic drive, which can also include camping, hiking, biking, and even horseback riding. Being fortunate enough to live next to the Trace, I routinely hike the trails and take in the history, particularly in the North Mississippi area.

The Trace roughly follows the historic travel and trade route (the Old Natchez Trace) that was first established by American bison and Native Americans indigenous to the area. It was later used by boatmen, enslaved Africans, soldiers, and U.S. Presidents among others. The Trace is maintained by the US National Park Service and is said to contain 10,000 years of American history. Over the years, I've driven the majority of the Mississippi and Alabama segments of the Trace and have explored many of the historical sites and natural attractions along the Trace. A few of my personal favorites include the Sunken Trace, Cypress Swamp, Emerald Mound, and Rocky Springs ghost town. I also have fond memories from Summer 2004 of riding on the Trace and listening to BB King as a college student conducting a tour of Civil Rights Movement sites across the state of Mississippi (along with four other students and two Africana Studies professors from my alma mater). As you can tell, I hold the Trace in high regard. So, I was elated to return in Fall 2022 during my road trip through Louisiana and Mississippi. I drove the Trace from Natchez to Jackson (roughly 120 miles), and it was by far the most scenic and quintessentially Southern (referring to the rich, but also fraught, history of the Trace) stretch of my trip.

Just be beware when you have reservations there call and make sure no one is in your spot before you drive like 5 hours.

This makes it a great place for hiking, biking, fishing, outdoor workouts, etc. It also weaves through and across a frisbee golf (or disc golf if you prefer) course. It's a great walk along Mud Creek, and a peaceful stroll through the woods, which you can easily get a couple miles out of. And if you connect your walk to Veterans Park, you can stretch that to about seven (7) miles.

It's mucky and could use a good topping off by the rain these days, wouldn't recommend swimming in it now :) One nice thing/there's two dog parks side by side that follows the trail for a bit-one is bigger and goes back aways with tall shady trees, the other one is just fenced in grass.
