These people do the best they can with the staff they have. They were extremely helpful when I was returning a "like new" PRS Santana. It had cracks and rust. Thr pickup actually left the recess and laid against the strings because the rusty screws had stripped the wood. This was not their fault at all. I usually don't leave negative reviews, but after what happened to a friend of mine, I feel like I have to warn others. We rented an acoustic guitar ($10 a month), expecting the rental payments to pay off the guitar. It seemed like a decent plan at first, but after paying over $110 in rent, we were told that we'd still have over $100 to "pay off" the guitar. We ended up paying another $110 to close the account for a guitar valued at just $160! When my friend checked with the shop about the balance, we found out they were charging us a monthly fee that only covered 60% of the payment. That means the other 40% was just disappearing, something they conveniently didn't explain upfront. Instead of helping us own the guitar, they essentially scammed us with months of hidden extra fees that could have easily been avoided if they'd been transparent. We ended up paying over $220 for a guitar that wasn't even worth that much. Completely misleading and disappointing. I will never return, and I hope no one else gets trapped like this. read more

This is probably one of the best guitar centers I have been to. The store manager, Dom, and a few other employees that I interacted with were all very very nice and very knowledgeable. You can tell they have a passion for music , instruments and equipment I would say. I was impressed by Dom, remembering myself and my husband coming in, looking for specific items and remembering what my husband said about the style of music he plays, and what he's looking for. I recently moved back here from Austin Texas, where I do not believe a couple of their locations of guitar center have as many employees that really know what they're talking about. also this location in Lexington the employees were just genuinely nicer. So thank you for the good experiences so far, I will be back for sure. read more

If you think the selection is like these pictures wrong. The staff are rude will not help. Some older man with grey long hair acted like he wasn't interested. Ok so this store always has good gear and usually has friendly staff but today wasn't that way at all. I went in without a mask because I have a medical condition that prevents me from wearing one and I told them that but they were very rude and said that they couldn't help what was mandated and it made no difference what kind of medical condition I have. I shouldn't have done it but I put one over my mouth and was told by the manager to either cover my nose or leave. I will NEVER shop here again these people are animals. I agree with mask mandates and social distancing and the whole shabang but I can't help that I'm a sick man. If you're looking for good gear then I recommend them but if you have a medical condition that prevents you from masking before entering then it would be in your best interest to stay away from them because they would rather have someone die in their store than come in without a facial covering, enough said you get the point! read more

Where do I begin! Patience is a must. They are usually busy trying to save the world, one customer at a time. Tyler especially. From your rock and roll needs, to electronic dj setup. They have pretty much everything you could need, and if they don't. They can point you in the right direction. I had to wait a while to be helped, but it was well worth it. They have the best return policy in America! 45 days! As well as, a very knowledgeable and helpful staff. The store manager, Tyler, is a god send. Everyone wants his help, so don't be surprised if you can't get him. He got me setup with everything I needed to get into making music, other then your own positive energy! Stay positive people. Guitar Center - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - Lexington, Kentucky

Do not, I repeat, do not take your guitar in for any repairs or servicing at the Lexington, KY Guitar Center store. I took my 12 string in to have the saddle re-glued. When I picked it up, after paying $165, the whole back side of the bridge was lifted, but you couldn't tell by just looking straight down at it. I voiced my displeasure at the craftmanship (or lack of) but neither the luthier or guitar tech were at the store. When I got home and was able to access the bridge more closely, I discovered that I could slip the edge of a dime under every part of the back end of the bridge. In about a third of the saddle I could actually slip a nickel inside the lifted edge. Btw, they had tuned the strings 2 steps lower that standard tuning as if they knew the bridge wouldn't hold. But again they didn't mind charging me $165. I tuned the guitar up to standard tuning but I am afraid to play the thing in fear of the bridge flying off and hitting me in the face. Seriously, I could of handed a 4th grader some wood glue an told them to reattach the bridge and they would have done just as well. There is no way that the luthier could have taken the time to place clamps on the bridge during the process. At best they may have set a book on top while the glue was setting. Bottom line, this store and the work they did was completely amateurish! I'll never be back! I should have taken my guitar to Willcutt Guitars as I've had them work on my Martin D-28 before. This store offers a nice selection of instruments. I actually made two trips, one for the bass and the second for the amp and accessories. The bass was a middle school graduation present for my son. Aaron helped me (at least that's on the receipt). Couldn't have asked for a better salesperson. Very knowledgeable about the basses and amps. The experience was great.... a few negatives I noticed. The instruments are very dusty. They could really use dusting each day. If you're going to have instruments for customers to look at, keep them clean. On the first trip, a man whom I think was in charge, was giving an employee a pretty rough time over his smoke breaks and regular breaks. Not really sure what was going on (and none of my business) but not something customers need to be a part of. I like the store and will be back... read more

I bought a keyboard from Guitar Center a few months ago. Not once was I offered a "Yamaha Survival Kit" by the salesperson. When I got it out of the box, there was no power supply so I had to supply my own batteries. Frustrating but no big deal. Today, when I wanted to take the same keyboard back to the same Guitar Center sans batteries because, I bought them separately. They refused to buy the keyboard back. Seriously? I bought this keyboard from you guys and I have to supply the batteries or the power plug that 1. Wasn't offered to me in the first place and 2. Did not originally come with the keyboard. No thank you. This is a horrible policy. The gentlemen that I dealt with were kind and apologetic so the two stars are for them but seriously, this policy is ridiculous. read more

As soon as you go in they won't greet you or even ask if you need help. Brought a guitar in to trade and the guy looking at it is so loud the whole store can hear him picking apart what I've brought in. An employee I'm guessing on his day off is over there hogging the guitars and had to wait 30 mins after he left to even look at anything. Waste of time go somewhere else. If you go in this store with low expectations they'll make sure they set the bar even lower than you think it could go. read more

I thought Guitar Center was better than this... Ordered a bass as a birthday present and it was delivered after TWICE the time they said it would take. I opened the apparently undamaged box and immediately found a 1.5 cm flake of the lacquer chipped through to the WOOD right on the FRONT of the body! It looked like someone had struck it with a hammer during shipping. This giant chip was NOT in the listing photos at all! When I spoke to a customer service representative about the issue, they weren't able to do anything other than recommend another bass I would have to pay for FULL PRICE. After PAYING FULL PRICE for a whole different bass as a replacement (stingy!), it arrived in an absolutely HORRIBLE looking box that looked like someone had thrown it down a few flights of stairs and then stomped on it. It was in such poor shape that large holes were visible all over it. Somehow, this second bass had a few more scratches and DENTS that were NOT mentioned when I spoke to the guy on the phone or visible on any of the preview images. Scratches can be buffed out, but dents? How did that even happen??? On top of that, they couldn't even be bothered to put strings on it that weren't rusted out. Even the screws on the pickups were rusted, as well as the saddle springs! And I still do NOT have a gift to give. So I bought a bass as a birthday present, then had to buy ANOTHER to replace it, and when that one was damaged too, their customer service says there is NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT!!! How is that fair, or even reasonable? It was THEIR CARELESSNESS that caused the damages in the first place! I'm never going to buy from Guitar Center again, and you shouldn't either! They're just going to break your stuff and then force you to pay for it! I wouldn't be surprised at this point if they called me and demanded I pay for the boxes they busted! If you have some time kill and music, music instruments, DJ equipment, or stage lighting are of any interest to you then this is a must visit location. I could spend all day in here and still not look at all they have to offer really. They are good for the beginner or they expert. They also have an online store and have some really good sales on stuff from time to time. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 was the time spent waiting for someone to answer some questions I had about some of the items. The guitar broke about 6 months in, and though it could've been fixed, but been ugly, Dylan put the effort in to make sure the guitar was replaced, rather than patched. I have always been a supporter of this guitar center, but unfortunately it's going in the wrong direction. They have a lot of turnover in staff and the employees they currently have aren't even remotely trained in customer service. Most of their recent hires are simply rude and uninterested in helping customers. In my past 4-5 visits to this store, in which I probably spent 2-3 hours, not one single time has an employee walked into the acoustic room to ask if anyone needed help. I've always supported this place, I've spent 7-8 thousand dollars there in the last three years but after visiting a number of other Guitar centers in Louisville, Nashville, and Cincinnati I have to say this one has become a major disappointment. I got the run around at guitar center when i took in my 2013 JP Music Man guitar. This is a three thousand dollar guitar. I was having it set up in a standard down tuning and couldn't put the strings in that I wanted/needed because the nut was too small for the bigger strings. I didnt want to have to shave the nut so we explored other options. When i wasn't happy with the other options i was basically told ny the guitar tech (very defensively and with me accusing a soul) that he didn't do anything to my guitar and he COULDN'T do anything else to it, and to take it to Willcutt guitars on Southland Drive. If you couldn't set up the guitar in that down tuning PROPERLY and you don't know how to any other way THEN SAY SO. Don't try and do something that literally can't be done. Also don't put 2 different gauge string sets for the top three strings and bottom three. Basically don't take a guitar that is worth more than a thousand dollars because they won't set it up correctly. read more
