Gross Mismanagement in this location. Some of the People that work there are truly nice, staff, teachers, guitar technicians. But this store is the best example of of how Corporate indifference begets negligence, leading ultimately to customer dissatisfaction. And as usual, the little guy pays the price.
I have talked to some of the people working here, and they are short handed. Usually one or two on duty taking care of most of the sales floor, specifically guitars and basses. I would ask: 'are you hiring,' and they say not really, 'we are fully staffed.' Apparently it is not a question of personnel but time allotted for them to work. This is basically Mismanagement at a Corporate level. Or what I call indifference
Three of the four times I have been there asking for a guitar, that GC website shows the store has in stock, it is not on the sales floor. So the store clerk gets it from the back. Items are mislabeled as well.
I tell you if you shop here come with your phone fully charged and compare prices with GC website. (But this trend is everywhere now from Mall Outlets to Walmart) But I digress. So customers are unattended to and nothing is priced correctly. So basically negligence from the staff due to manpower shortage
And finally there are things like the Bass pictured below but here is a link to the bass new courtesy of the distinguished competition:

And here is an exmaple of a G&L instrument priced for less, notice it says Good Condition
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/GL/Tribute-Legacy-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar-120231289.gc
As you will see the bass is not in good condition, but if you noticed from the new instruments the bridge is different. What you cannot see is that one of the knobs is actually loose; clearly this bass is not in good condition, but the farthest thing from it. This instrument was used for it's original parts and then given to guitar center who is now selling it as if it were in good condition when compared to how the Bass would be new.
I have emailed them on this issue, days ago but no reply. I did not have these pictures until today but I did send links like the one here and advised him to compare the pictures with the bass. Today I talked to someone as well, but he was busy and when I brought it up, he seemed indifferent so I did not push the issue. And this how the little guy ends up paying for it.
Who would buy this bass, perhaps no one. Perhaps someone at a discount as blemished guitar or scratch and dent deal. But regardless that customer is not getting a G&L Tribute bass but a tampered product.
Now had this been priced correctly and issues pointed out in the sticker price it would be.... Fine, I guess. But not like this. This situation at its best is GC being ignorant of their products, and at worst passing the buck knowing they messed up and still trying to come out of it making a profit.
In my opinion they need to Eat this bass.
As side bar, I relented from going this route for a while as this store and the workers inside are as much victims as they are perpetuators. I am sure if corporate deems this situation an issue, they will make them an example in some way. But once again the little guy gets it, but this time not just customers but the workers as well. All because of Corporate Negligence.
I am sure the CEO of this company thinks putting more high ticket items in the sales floor is a solution. $1000 guitars for all to grab and try. But Product knowledge is just as important as placement, and having enough Manpower also saves you money, specially when you have enough staff to price products correctly. But in GC pricing mistakes are common, both in store and online. Like this bass should be less, but you can find items that if researched enough are priced for less than what they are worth. This is how I ended up with the guitar I have now. But that is a different story altogether.
But getting back to my point. This is why Guitar Center (as a corporation) is loosing Market Share to a company with only one Brick and Mortar Store. Not because you are not selling enough Gibson and Fender Custom shop guitars. But because of Corporate Negligence that leads to Grossly mismanaged stores. And lacking knowledge to properly price your items. Keep using Reverb to set pricing, that is a fantastic tactic. Let's charge the same as the people that get it at their house. What is the point of that? You want to end up like Sears? GC stores are basically Reverb showrooms. Why am I getting out of my house to come to you, if you are not even trying to compete with other retailers. read more
