My wife bought me a Fender Telecaster as a Christmas gift from the Anchorage Guitar Center with a 15% off coupon from the monthly flyer and used the savings to buy the extended warranty. Cut to Christmas when I open it and find out it has a buzzing fret, no big deal they will fix it, or so I thought. Brought it to them only to find out they no longer employ a guitar tech and haven't for weeks! They won't exchange it for the exact same model and color they have on the wall because it was purchased using a coupon from their Christmas Sale and the prices are different! The Fender warranty still applies and guess who Fender states I have to take it to for Repairs? The Authorized repair center at the only Guitar Center in town. Only they can't fix it. On top of this the extended warranty we purchased only applies to manufactures defects after the manufacturer warranty expires in two years. Was excited about guitar Center being in Anchorage, even brought my brother there to buy a bass and an amp two days ago. I can't explain how frustrated I am with this situation. UPDATE- I was able to come in during the manager's hours. He apologized for the situation and had no problem making me whole. This made my day and salvaged a relationship. read more

The worst customer service. I own a large studio in alaska/ record label and unfortunately have to spend thousands of dollars here every year. The customer service for the past three years has been consistently horrible. If you can avoid spending money here, do it. The staff over the years quite literally have no clue how to help and have no interest in it either. No chance this guitar center will last long under current management and ownership. read more

I find most if not all Guitar Centers to a bit soulless, and this one is no exception; however, given the dirth of music stores in Anchorage, sometimes it's the best option. Stock isn't as varied or large as other GCs, but the store is bigger than it looks from the outside. Staff ranged from ambivalent to generally helpful. Has some used gear, but not much. Prices are on par with other GCs so you can search around first on their website. read more

Went to the grand opening, and it was super fun! They were busy but the staff was engaged and knowledgeable. All of Anchorage was playing the instruments and there was good energy in there. I don't play musical instruments, but when I dabble in an harmonica or the like, or am looking for an gift I would definitely go here. My husband who is an avid musician loved all the things. They have cool accessories for music fans, bluetooth speakers, and other non music items as well. Excited for this new Anchorage music store addition. read more

We stopped in with no guitar experience whatsoever. And Leland helped us. This man went above and beyond. He tuned our guitar and taught us how to tune it and how to replace the string all within a few minutes. Leland was very patient, honest, knowledgeable and courteous. Zero customer service skills , we waited forever to get any assistance. There was no product available. The empty boxes on the shelves, and sparsely displayed items , also not organized and priced properly. The dusty and dirty instruments. Don't display a 600$ double bass petal all bent and dirty that's disrespectful to the customer and the company who makes it. I was going to buy a drumset and a guitar , a possible 3000$ purchase , and they offered to order the items but the shipping would be 200$ extra. I said no thanks Amazon has free shipping. I really hope this place gets better management or something , because it's disappointing to have this as the only option ..for anybody to shop here. read more

Never will I ever in a million years shop at this location again. They sold my daughter a completely useless device. After making multiple trip to try and troubleshoot we were told the return timeframe had lapsed and would have to sell the device. The manager btw was unnecessarily rude to my daughter when she asked for help. They really could use customer service training. The one reason I shopped there was because I thought it was local. But even so. their customer service is terrible! read more

I have brought my guitars and bass guitars to have repairs and adjustments made. "Andrew" in the service department has incredible talent in the repairs and maintenance of these equipment. Not only are his skills incredible, his person to person skills are on top of the customer service game. For these reasons I will continue to use the Anchorage Guitar Center for purchasing and maintaining my guitars/bass guitars. read more

I bought a guitar for my wife for Christmas. The back was damaged and I didn't see it at the store when I bought it. The salesman said when i took it back that he had seen the damage but did not mention it. They would not take it back because it was on clearance. I ended up taking back the amp and cords. They were willing to give up hundreds of dollars in sales just so they would not take the guitar back. Very dishonest salesman. read more

The first guitar I brought them to do a set up, I got back with brand new problem areas on the neck. They installed the tuners ok, so I counted that as a wash. The real jem is I took my Jackson there to upgrade the pickups with a set I had ordered online. I wanted to try a new string retaining technique so I told them not to string it. They called me same day saying it was ready to go. Without strings I know there are several free, non invasive ways to verify the pickups work. It's not rocket science, so when I asked the tech: -1. Did you test them, and 2. Do they work, he said yes. I paid for the upgrade, and took it home to string up. They did NOT work, and I brought I back and 3 days later was told the pickups are just flat out bad. You'd think he would have caught that when I he said he tested them. I got into an argument with the manager on the definition of testing and a "working guitar". Pickups react to cell phone, speakers, and strings on other guitars if you hold them close enough. Feedback from an amp its plug into would also let you know if they work or not. None of those tests were the tests he did, and I took his word for it that they were tested. No refund, store credit or anything was offered, and now I know what kind of company they are. read more
