They don't have hostesses so keep in mind that if you're looking for a table it's a first come first serve and you need to keep your eyes open for an open table or stand by one that is getting up soon. The food itself is great. We had the pie flights, definitely recommend the beef pie and the vegetable pie. The chicken was meh but everything else was good. Bit on the pricey side in terms of beers on tap. Was about 7.39 for a pint. The place is nice lots of tables, but tables fill up fast. They also have outdoor seating so that's nice, but for a place like London where it always rains, it's nice that they have ample about of seating inside. Great local pub with good pies.

It was late afternoon, and the pub area was quite busy with customers, so we headed upstairs to the restaurant section. We ordered beef ale pie and fish and chips--classic British comfort food. The fish and chips were a solid choice, with a crispy batter. The interesting part was the side of bean paste. We enjoyed pairing the fish with the bean paste, and even tried the fries with it at times. The standout dish was the beef ale pie! The filling was absolutely delicious--tender beef with a perfectly flavored sauce. I'd love to have it again! We ordered Guinness, a classic British pub drink. We enjoyed the traditional pub atmosphere, and I later learned that this pub has a long history as well. It was a great experience, and I hope to have a beer in the downstairs pub section next time.

Goose Island Brewpub - Deep dish pizza

After leaving a different brewery-branded craft beer bar very close by (three guesses...), a friend…read moreand I headed here in search of more delicious beer in a calmer and quieter atmosphere. One of my regular bus routes goes right by the front doors, so from the moment I saw the construction going on and the Goose Island stencils on the windows, I'd been super excited to try this place once it opened. I was looking forward to finally sitting down inside. The brewpub, which occupies a ground-floor unit, is definitely spacious. The bar is on the left as you walk in, with a row of high-top tables to the right. In back up a couple of stairs is another seating area and the brew equipment. This means Goose Island has more space than some other bars in Shoreditch, which helped the atmosphere feel calmer than where we had been before. And we didn't need to shout to hear each other. The friendly bartender helped us sample a number of brews on tap before we made up our minds on a Gillian (strawberry honey gose) and an IPA. We also perused the food menu, and shared an order of fries (£3) which were seriously nothing to write home about. Familiar with the well-designed, internationally-inspired, beer-paired food menus at other Goose Island locations in places like Seoul and Shanghai, I was disappointed to see their London offerings. They've opted for a sort of Chicago-inflected Americana with pizzas, subs, and a few sides. I'd call it rather boring. Sure, the 16" pizzas coming out to other tables smelled good, but for between £14-16, I'd expect something more special. In fact, I'd expected something more special in general. The generic exposed brick design that's probably supposed to mirror "gritty" Chicago felt hollow. The answer that I got when I asked what makes the 312 an "urban" wheat beer (that it's "urban" because it's from Chicago) forced an awkward laugh from my throat. The nicest thing was the bathrooms which, though I deplore gender segregation--come on people, go unisex, it's just a pot to piss in--provided three "F" to one "M" and had great-smelling soap. Kinda sad though if that's what impressed me most. I probably won't be back.

I came to Craft Beer Co while pregnant…read more WHAT THE CLUCK!? (Well, I did order The Cluck chicken sandwich, for what its worth). Let me explain. We took a "baby class" and it just so happened to be at The Lift building on White Lion Street, a stone's throw from Craft Beer Co. My husband's delight could hardly be concealed as we approached lunchtime and the promise of a remarkable pint. He successfully completed his lunch mission and the rest of baby class...so, I'd call that a success. He raves about the beer selection here as do numerous other yelpers - safe bet you'll find something that catches your eye. My chicken sandwich was messy and delicious, made fresh and arrived very quickly with hot chips. Ill put this on my list for "return when not pregnant" - because once you've been sober for 9 months, go for the good stuff.
