Found out about Wednesday night hip hop and house music at Fosfobox through Bem Brasil…read moreEntertainment on Facebook, so me and my friends decided to check it out. We discovered it was only a short 8 minute walk from our apartment rental (score!) Walk in and the top floor was quite small. A few people were dancing but mainly crowding the bar. (They were giving free drinks until midnight) After midnight, everyone was liquored up and ready to go! I danced with people from Norway, England, France, Israel and of course Brasil. I was surprised at how many people knew the words to some of the songs because some of the hip hop wasn't mainstream that the DJ was spinning. I was delightfully surprised to hear southern American rap music...made me feel like I was back home in Texas :) We didn't really utilize the bottom floor. That's where the house music was. It was much larger, with way more people and way cooler down there, so we'd go down there to cool off in between hip hop songs. haha They have a pretty decent drink menu but make sure when you order a drink upstairs you get a ticket from the window in the corner so you can hand it to the bartender. That was unusual to me, but no big deal. The DJ was good and I had a pretty epic first night in Rio with my girls thanks to Fosfobox. I'll go again next time I'm in Rio!

TIP: get yourself on the guest list through Facebook or your hostel.. otherwise it was 50R. My ONE complaint that made the beginning of the evening very frustrating is the process to get drinks. Because of the eco cups (no disposable cups- you pay a 5R deposit and you can return it for your money back or keep it as a souvenir)-- you go to one cashier to buy drink tickets, but also need to buy cups. It's a crowded place with unorganized lines, so that took forever. Also- if interested in say vodka Redbull, they are separate tickets and purchases. THEN you take your tickets and your cup tô the bar in another location to get your drinks. Seems it would be MUCH more efficient to purchase cups and drink tickets when you buy your entrance and then if you need refills on drink tickets inside, you can purchase. The drinks were yummy, though not super strong. The caipirinha was delicious and sweet, and the Bahama Mama was great! The crowd was full of beautiful people from all around the world- very international. The sound system was OUT OF THIS WORLD! We went on a Wed which is Native Beats- hip-hop, Top40, Latin, reggaeton and Brazilian funk to finish off the night at 4:30a! The bass is so big it'll make your hair vibrate. Bathrooms are unisex which I found interesting. Definitely have more space downstairs, but it gets packed, hot and sweaty. Overall- what a great way to celebrate our last night out in Rio! Would definitely recommend

You can go inside and order drinks off the menu (including draft beer), or you can go outside and order the bottles of beer that they have there. But you can't do both from inside, unless you're seated by the ledge and lean over. Another strange thing is that you have to tell the cashier what you want, pay, and then she'll tell the bartender. If you just tell the bartender he won't do anything but look at you funny. This system doesn't work very well because you'll see lines forming for the cashiers while the bartenders sit around waiting to make a drink. Is it that hard to pour a draft beer? You know someone else is going to order one. It gets packed and seems to attract the American frat boy type, though I don't know why. The music is good and loud and the crowd spills out onto the street, where you have to be careful because it attracts some shady characters. Expect to smell pot. It has a lot of character and is definitely unique, but bottom line, if every other place was closed I might come here. So would everyone else.

It closes at 5am-6am on Saturdays and it's a two-story house where basically each room has its own DJ and bartender. Same with the backyard. So it's like bar-hopping but all at one place!

But no, it used to be. Sadly, Bukowski bar has changed a lot, it is not underground anymore, and it is not necessarily a bad thing, it really depends on what kind of place you are looking for. It is a cool two-floor house, located in Botafogo, a trendy-young district in Rio. There is a patio with some outdoor seating, great for chatting while having a beer with friends. There is also a garage, where, later on, a dj start to play and the whole thing becames a dance floor. Inside the house, you have a downstairs dance floor, with some serious sweety-too close-dancers and the second floor area, with some space and sofas for chatting and ladies queueing for the toilet and a second dance floor. It is open until late and always attracts young crowds. Just a bit too expensive compared to other places in Rio, around 40 reais entrance and 9 reais for a beer.

Bottom Line: All night fun!…read more My girlfriend and I had a blast at this club! There are two levels both with bars and played rock pop on the first floor and hip hop / EDM on the second level. This place was cracking all night. I think the average age for this place was mid-twenties. There is some room for chilling and sipping on your drink but it's so loud don't expect to have much a of conversation; this place is for dancing. Overall the club is not too dark; there are lots of strobes and such. There is also a shop on the second floor that has some cool merchandise. This place had a good vibe. We figured it was time to leave when we saw people being carried out (barely coherent) and passing out while standing! Drinks at the bar were pretty easy to get and tasted on par for an average club. Tips for tourists (from a tourist): Cariocas (residents of Rio) go out later. Don't arrive earlier than 10 or 11 and expect to stay at least until 3. I think like many other places, you pay at the end of night when you leave so DON'T LOSE YOUR DRINK CARD or else they will charge you a lot of money! For comparison, it works like a dim sum restaurant if that helps.

Last night it was I love rock and roll theme and they played all the great hits from the 90's which was a lot of fun. Upstairs was less crowded with indie and rock Pop, which wasn't as popular. There are some couches to rest if you need a break. Plenty of cozy corners for people to make out, though that didn't stop people from using the dance floor. The drinks ran from the cheapest beer, Antarctica ($8R) and other domestic bottles for a few more reais. Other imports, like Guinness and delirium tremens ran $30R. They had a big selection of mixed drinks, the mate caribe (mate, Malibu, vodka) was super easy to drink as well as the standard Cuba libre ($28R). All of which you pay according to the drink card they give you when you enter (don't lose that because it's your ticket out!) and pay at the counter before you leave. I was surprised that the two stall woman's bathroom didn't have too long of a wait and though it ran out of toilet paper there was still hand soap and paper towels left. We were lucky to grab the taxi that was waiting outside so it was easy for us. Don't know if they always have one waiting but they should with lei seca
