The single staffer explained the new company and walked us through sampling the handful of scents. Today almost exactly six years later, it was my first stop after checking into the hotel. Yes you can buy most of the scents online and limited selection at Sephora in the US, but nothing still beats the one on one service you receive at the ONLY retail shop in the world for Juliette. Located just off the northwest corner of the Place Des Vosges in the Marais area of Paris, makes it a great stop while exploring one of the best shopping and eating areas in the city. It's a small shop, it was a bit crowded with 6 customers and the single staffer today. I explored all the new and unobtainable scents while I waited my turn. Then I received fabulous service with great attention to detail. I purchased two bags of all the new and unavailable in the US perfumes. This was the first perfume spot that I discovered offered a sample of testers, travel size sticks and full size bottles. I ended up with two sample packs to share with friends and eight travelers. A set of you select your own three were only 50€. A fabulous bargain. Now that I wrote that, I might need to return and buy two more sets. The scents as well as their names are some of the most unique aromas. Juliette was created in Paris and Grasse, France by Romano Ricci, the great grandson of fashion designer Nina Ricci. The girl in the advertising is a metaphor of Shakespeare's Juliette and her weapon of seduction is perfume. Ricci is making a statement, aiming to make perfume an emblem of style and originality.

Both the associates working at the store were very helpful in finding me the correct size when getting my belt and sock size. They also checked the back for new inventory which was great and spoke well English throughout the whole transaction. After everything was done, the lady explained where to go for the VAT refund and how it's processed at the airport.

Super great service from Marcelo!…read more I was looking for something very specific and they only had one left in all the stores in Paris (7). Marcelo called me a day before my appointment and was able to confirm that they had the item I wanted and put it aside for me. During my appointment, he was super patient and let me take my time trying on various things as well as giving me his opinion. He even included a little gift along with my purchase :) Would definitely reach out to Marcelo again for any future Cartier purchases.

For my anniversary, I wanted a Cartier ring and since I don't live in France anymore, I also decided to take advantage of the tax refund. The big department stores make a big deal of providing that service very easily and I was under the wrong impression that it would be better to go to one of them. I first went to Cartier in the Samaritaine. The two counters were busy with clients and after waiting and waiting, another salesperson showed up to take care of me. I tried a couple rings standing in the middle of the store and was told I needed my passport to fill out the paperwork, so I'd have to come back. A couple days later, I brought my passport with me and decided to try Cartier in Le Printemps since I was shopping in the area. They told me that since February they only sell watches at this location but recommended I go the the store on Boulevard des Capucines, a short walk from there. I am so glad I did, the experience in a real Cartier store is so much better than in a big department box. And the staff seems also more professional. Instead of standing for a long time like I did at La Samaritaine, waiting for someone to take care of me, I was immediately greeted by a hostess who asked me what I was shopping for and told me she'd look for a salesperson for me. Cartier Capucines is a big store with beautiful displays selling watches, jewelry and also decorative objects for the house. After a few minutes, a smiling young lady brought me to a quite area where we could seat comfortably to talk about the ring I wanted to purchase. She helped me with sizing and all other questions I had about taking advantage of the tax refund. It was a very pleasant and relaxed experience, and I felt I could totally trust the salesperson (I've been told different stories in department stores about the Cartier policies regarding resizing rings, including one who said you could not resize the Trinity ring, or another saying it's free for life, both false!). Lastly, it's important to realize that the process of taking advantage of the tax refund is not made easier by going to a department store. No matter what, you still have to stop by the office at the airport to get your purchase approved. In the end, I highly recommend going to a Cartier shop, if you want to treat yourself or a loved one to something special!

The only place in Paris where racism runs supreme and at full display…read more If you are not local and of Asian ethnicity, take your business elsewhere. A lot of (but not all obviously) sales staff at the store are really unkind to people of Asian descent. My fiancé and I visited the store on Sep 16, 2017 at about 7pm+. We speak fluent English and a few necessary words in a French, well-mannered and fully respect the establishment. Thus, I was horrified with how we were treated. I do recognize that the service staff may have been mistreated in the past by certain group of visitors and their experiences may have marred their view of certain ethnicity (Asian/Chinese) but being judged constantly and mistreated just because you look certain way is such a horrible experience. These are some examples of our experiences at the store. 1) Christine at the Smythson counter on the ground floor. We were making the purchase at close to 8:30PM when the VAT refund counter at the Homme store was about to close. Christine reassured us that she would call her manager so we could get the "VIP" service and extend the hours at the vat refund counter. Initially, we were thinking of coming back to purchase another day but with her reassurance we proceeded to just purchase as we're certain that we could get the vat refund back easily. Sure enough when we went up to the VAT refund counter on the 3rd floor, we were shooed away by the staff and there was no acknowledgement of Christine calling. The staff at the Homme vat refund counter looked at us so disapprovingly even though we were just misled there by Christine's empty commitment just to get us to pay and through the door. We had to then run to the main store in 10 minutes time frame amazing race style so we could get the vat refund back in time - super tiring and so uncalled for. 2) lady at The Lacoste counter on ground floor (didn't know her name. She's Asian) blatantly lied to us that we could come back and get the refund the next day. This was after we told her that we didn't wanna make the purchase yet as we didn't wanna risk not getting the Tax refund processed in time. We found out from other staff that we couldn't. She's really just lying to get us to buy at the last few minutes before the store is closing. 3) a French male at the counter on the 3rd floor right next to the bridge connecting to the Lafayette main store. This guy was the worst of all. We asked him for direction and he was raising his voice, yelling at us and using hand gesture so inappropriate to chase us away from him and questioning why we couldn't follow simple instruction while pointing to his heads suggesting we needed to use brain. We ended up raising our voice in terror as we didn't understand the hostility from such a basic direction question. I didn't know if he had a bad day or whatever, but he seems to dislike his job and he should consider another career in which he wouldn't have to encounter people at all. The only positive of the day was an amazing service from Nicolas from the Hugo boss shop on the ground floor, who demonstrates professionalism and knowledge in the brand that he represents and store that he works in. He was not only able to give us great advice, but also provides excellent service. It's so unfortunate that a department store with legacy like Lafayette still let their frontline people treating customers in such manner. This is 2017 and in a capital with over 30 million tourists a year, I am expecting way more from Lafayette.
