We recently moved into a new house. On December 25, I unwrapped the movers' packaging on a large steel ornamental sculpture of a fish made of thick carbon steel ribs welded together along a spine. It also has sheetmetal head, fins, and tail. It weighs over 130 pounds (~60+ kg). UnfortunateI during the move the tack-welds holding the spine together broke in two locations, with one of the "ribs" rotated out of position. Also, a portion of the tail was bent 180°, which posed a potential problem of cracking if I applied brute force to straighten it flat.
I began an online search for welders who make house calls between Christmas and New Years. Galo Sanchez Suarez of GS Welding responded in a half hour to my request on Yelp. Galo came our house the next morning with his full professional rig in his truck, including a generator and electric arc-welder. He carried the sculpture outside to do the work. He replaced the broken tack-welds with excellent half-inch long structural welds, ground smooth, and free from defects and discontinuities. He also straightened the tail without breaking it. Good as new!
Then Galo helped me lift the fish onto the mounting bracket I had lag-screwed to the studs in the living room wall.
We are delighted with the result!!! My wife is especially elated that we have the fish mounted on the wall where she wants it read more
