Want to include more vegetables and home cooking in your diet? You need Gruber Farms CSA in your life.
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and you sign up for shares/boxes over a season of several months. My husband and I signed up for the Spring 2021 season, choosing the small share for 1-2 people for $275. The season is 12 weeks, April-June, and you receive one box per week.
Each week's box is packed to the brim with fruits and vegetables, and we've bought little produce from grocery stores. If your family is between sizes or eat some meals out at restaurants, choose the smaller share.
So far, every fruit or vegetable has been fresh, and you can tell it was recently picked and packed. The price is fair for the amount and quality of produce we've received, our money goes directly to Gruber Farms, and our food didn't travel far to reach us.
This season, we've had strawberries, potatoes, squash, zucchini, cauliflower, collards, cabbage, lettuce, kale, snap beans, cantaloupe, and more. Each box includes a letter from the farmer as well as recipes and serving suggestions for your produce. This is helpful if you need ideas or receive vegetables you haven't cooked before. The yellow cauliflower and Napa cabbage were both new to me and surprisingly tasty.
Wherever you are in the Charleston area, Gruber Farms CSA has a pickup spot near you. They even have pickup spots in Columbia, Moncks Corner, Walterboro, and Orangeburg. We pick up from Pivotal Fitness, and gyms seem to be a popular pick-up spot. That's one way to be sure you work out at least once a week to supplement your healthy eating.
Since we love vegetables and supporting local businesses, signing up for the CSA was a great decision. We'll continue to support Gruber Farms. read more
