Looking for a late night snack after a campus hockey game we went to the speakeasy in town but they offered no food. So we walked to our car and saw that the Grotto was still open at 9:30p. We went in and at the kitchen counter we asked if it was too late to order a pizza and they said not at all! Yay! So we ordered a large bacon and mushroom pizza. While we waited we walked around. The bar was packed but could see the bartenders taking care of people in a timely manner and did not see a two people deep situation you might see on a Saturday night. Lots is table seating as well as seating at the huge bar. There was live music and a small area for dancing. Past the stage they have an area for gaming. Video games, darts, and pool tables. All the pool tables were taken with a lively group of people. After a quick walk around we went and waited by the kitchen door area and soon our pizza was ready. Fast and friendly service. Got the pizza back to our Inn and ate. Pizza was good, nothing bad to report and that's coming from a native New Yorker who can be picky about pizza. Many dishes to choose from if pizza is not your thing. When we come back to Plymouth we will stop in again! read more

We have been to the Grotto a few times and inquired about bringing in my son's hockey team. The owner was so kind and accommodating. It is a big space that offers a family-friendly environment, but also caters plenty to the adults. The food is top notch and the drink selection is amazing. An added benefit is the Dungeon that has some billiards and arcades. All of the families had a blast hanging out at the Grotto. The live music also added to the ambience and overall everything was superb. We plan on another trip as a group next hockey season and I will definitely be back with my family this summer. I think it is such a great space for a large group - very accommodating and the waitstaff was also amazing. If you are looking to comfortably entertain a large party, the Grotto has you covered! read more

I apologize for my friends unruly behavior, it was truly disrespectful and immature. - D Anyways the pizza was phenomenal, sort of like it was taken straight from Napoli and brought to Plymouth New Hampshire. The service was with excellence as well. Many welcoming folks, and we got our food in a short amount of time. A friend and I went to Grotto a month or two ago. I ordered chicken parmesan and a large pizza to go. About the same time our meals came out there was smoke in the kitchen and a very strong burnt food odor. I joked with my friend, saying "someone's getting burned food", not realizing it was my to go pizza!! As im eating my chicken parmesan i noticed it was burned as well. I stopped eating it, ate the padta and figured id cut the burned part off when i got home before eating my leftovers the following day. I didn't complain, paid my bill and left. The following day i warmed up my leftover chicken parmesan and realized (now in better light) that the remaining piece was 5 times worse than what i ate at the restaurant. The chicken was black across the entire bottom and was so dry from over cooking is wasn't edible. Luckily i had a pizza!! I opened the pizza box to find the entire crust black on top. I then looked at the bottom of the pizza and it too was black. Im not talking over cooker or brown, im talking black charred crust over 100% of the pizza. The following day, i called the manager. Told him what happened. He said he had been made aware of multiple meals getting sent out of the kitchen the night before burned or over cooked. He acknowledged they had a new cook and he was working to resolve the issue. He was very apologetic and offered to replace the pizza. Not the chicken parm, pizza only. He said he would email a gift certificate to me for the pizza. While i wasn't happy he did nothing about the chicken parm, i graciously accepted the free pizza and decided I'd at least give them another try. Unfortunately, i never received an email, never received a gift certificate as promised. So not only did i pay for food burned beyond being edible, but the manager never followed through on the offer of a free pizza. When i called back a week later, i asked to have the manager call me back, and never received a return call. I was willing to give them a second chance after talking to the manager the first time, as he was at least willing to make it right. The fact that he made an offer he didn't follow through on, then ignored my call, no way will i ever go there again. And i certainly will be too happy to tell others to steer clear of Grotto!!! Its too bad when youre a small business and treat locals like this. We're the ones that keep you going when the students go home!! read more

Was in town for Bike Week and we stopped in for dinner. The service is slow, the food was good but not great. The Spaghetti Bolognese was nothing but meat sauce (ground beef in chunks), I didn't detect any sausage. There was a $2 up charge for a salad, I chose the House salad. Not a usual salad, iceberg, red onion tomato, green olives and blue cheese crumbles. The veal parmigiana was tough, it needed to be pounded more. Although the menu clearly states that all entrees come with rolls, our waitress seemed confused when I mentioned that we'd like our rolls now (after dinner was served). She said she thinks the rolls are extra, she returned 15 minutes later asking if we needed anything else, I asked about the rolls and she said she'd put them in the oven. Finally she comes with piping hot garlic butter rolls which were delicious but not for dessert! Lol. I just had to grab a menu on my way out to see if I was crazy...sure enough and she put $5 on the bill for rolls. read more

Food was good but a smaller portion than I've had in most places. Shrimp fettuccine with 6 shrimp. Drinks were expensive and weak. 8.50 for a Malibu & pineapple juice - couldn't taste the rum and after 2 drinks I can honestly say I get more of a buzz off 2 twisted teas. Hubby felt the same about the rum & coke...couldn't taste any rum. Service was ok. Sat at the bar and Charlie was friendly and attentive. The place was not busy but boy was it hot & stiffling in there. Surroundings is nice & comfortable. Won't go back there. Won't recommend. read more

We ordered a shrimp scampi and Fettuccine Alfredo dinner and a side of shrimp scampi and oh my god it looked, smelt and tasted like dog shit. I've never seen any restaurant do worse. I would give this restaurant a -10 stars if I could, giving it a 1 star is too generous. The shrimp scampi was sour, I couldn't have more than a bite, the Alfredo was chunky, grease was seeping through the container, I could go on. Let the photos do the talking. The restaurant didn't even have utensils, staff are useless and didn't care to help us. This meal was revolting and I don't want to look at shrimp scampi ever again. Ruined my appetite for the night on my last day of vacation. Such a disappointment. read more

Service was the best part of the meal. Maryjane was attentive, understanding, and friendly. Drinks were not great. I ended up sending back the cocktail I ordered that was really just some gin and soda with one floating basil leaf, definitely not the cocktail I ordered that was also supposed to have lemon, elderflower, and maybe flavor. Our server quickly brought a replacement glass of wine. The other cocktail ordered was meh. Food: no kid menu, but no problem. Order a pollo frito appetizer with marinera for the little one. That chicken was in the fryer for so long the meat was gray and the breading was the color of coffee. Margherita pizza for the adults was perfectly mediocre: any better could have been considered "okay" and any worse would have been bad. Kid ended up eating two slices of pizza and the adults choked down some chicken. Won't be back. Server should find a place with better food so she isn't associated with a poor product. read more

We were so happy with the take out we had Friday night. An assortment of their appetizers made for a great meal with enough left overs for another meal. The artichokes were amazing. Chicken wings were great!! Calamari reheated in our air fryer tasted like they were right out of their kitchen. Caesar salad was even good the 2nd day and I never eat leftover salad!!! I came here last week and noticed the bartender (owner's daughter) is extremely rude to her employees and her customer. I went in for a drink and an appetizer and noticed she was talking to a male for the better part of an hour while there were 10-15 people without drinks at the bar. There are 40 seats at the bar and one bartender. It was easy to notice when she made a mistake with a drink because you would hear the shattering of a glass as she threw it in the trash can. I would highly recommend eating anywhere else so that you can get decent service and hopefully some manners from the bartender. read more

Service was very good, the food was served hot, salad was cold (always a plus). Helping size was plenty. If this were based solely on the server it would be Five star, I was a little confused by the presentation of a couple of things Veal Guisiepi (sp) good combination but was missing pasta or something else, way too many peppers. Could have all of those ingredients but less of them would have been more subtle with pasta. Rolls were good but should be served with either butter or a small plate of EVOO. Good dining experience IF, You like sitting around for 30+ minutes to place an order. IF, You like waiting over an hour! for your food. IF, You like seeing 3 people (in a party of 8) get their meals, then 10 minutes later 2 more arrive, another 5 minutes go by (not kidding on the timing) 2 more meals, and the 8th person? Never got His! IF, You don't mind getting a meal that was Not the one you ordered. IF, You don't mind sitting amongst dirty dishes, not being offered "too-go" containers OR dessert. All while shouting over too loud music to catch up with Family/Friends You haven't seen in some time. The Grotto might be suitable as a pizza/bar hangout for college kids, but nothing else. (We arrived early, 5:30pm, on a Sunday evening hoping to avoid any such issues ...the grotto was empty except for a few bar patrons. An inadequate 25% discount was offered.) Dinner on a Monday night. My first thought when entering the restaurant...Wow a beautifully appointed establishment. Linen like tablecloths (vinyl/white stunning) and linen napkins, "real" glass water glasses that were filled correctly! On to the food! Calamari Scampi for appetizer was really good in it's garlic butter sauce...good enough to mop the plate! The Caesar Salad was Crisp and not overly covered with dressing. The French Onion Soup served hot and delicious with stringy cheese and lots of caramelized onions in a nice rich broth. My food complaint- Croutons on Salad did not appear to be homemade (which would have been a nice touch). My staff complaint which would not stop me from a return visit but, would add a nice touch Waiter, Bussers and kitchen staff in a uniform outfit rather than T-shirts and open flannel shirts over said T-Shirt. read more

Grotto was a pleasant surprise. Was familiar with the area before it was converted to Grotto. They've done a nice job with the interior. Very urban loft / industrial vibe. A large U shaped bar. We were a table of 7 on a Saturday night. We had called the day before and arrived a little early. dining room was pretty full so we gathered around the bar and had a drink. Table was ready in about 10-15 minutes. We ordered the garlic / parmesan wings and a Margherita pizza for apps. Wings had good flavor but I prefer them crispier. everyone that ate them liked them. The pizza was also good. bottom was cooked perfectly. I had a pizza with garlic, sausage and mushroom. Was excellent. Maybe a little heavy on the garlic. I was a pizza maker, "back in the day" in Somerville and would routinely load a pizza up for anyone that asked for fresh garlic so I chalk this up to garlic karma. Around the table chicken piccata, marsala was had along with the cannelloni. everyone enjoyed their food very much. there was one mention of wishing their pasta was a little more al dente. a very enjoyable spot and will be back. read more

I'll start with the pros...wicked good pizza and I eat a ton of pizza so I know my stuff here. My son and I weren't really expecting it to be that good but we were pleasantly surprised. Our waiter was attentive and filled my water every time it was low, which usually doesn't happen for me. The cons...there is no sign to seat yourself when you walk in so that would be helpful. My son's plate was dirty and had some food on it in the upper corner, I just scratched it off but someone should pay more attention to that. Also, the chairs that are in the dining room area were pretty dirty if you look at the square parts on the top and the rungs around the bottoms. I mean, really dusty and nasty looking...I didn't find anything else that stood out as dirty but someone should wipe the chairs down once a week completely. I would definitely eat their pizza again, probably will give it one more chance inside and see how it goes. But if you're in town and can do take out...I'd say go for it!! read more

Initially I was rather happy to find another food delivery option, however that happiness was short lived. When the delivery boy arrived he only had the hot food part of our order, and didnt know what our charge was. (He had to call to find out what we needed to pay) He didnt have our beverages with him and shortly after he left I discovered he hadnt brought our desserts either. I called the shop and was told that he would be told about the missing food So you can imagin my surprise when he turned up with only the sodas we had ordered. He left with me thinking he would be back with the rest of what I paid for.... Unfortunatly I was dissapointed. I tried calling the next day about the issue at the time the website said they were open only to be dissapointed once again, no one answered the phone!!! A dead person, propped up on a chair would get better service than we did. First of all, absolutely no one acknowledged us when we arrived. While it was wall to wall busy, that is no excuse. My friend then suggested that to accommodate us that they could move some chairs together, but, two other guests stole our thunder and took those seats. Love the pizza. Good selection of beers. The service can be uneven. Tonight, I was surprised they were offering prime rib. It was OK, but I should have stuck with pasta. The flavor and cook was good, but they served it on a cold plate so it was stone cold by the time I cut all the fat out of it (with a butter knife because the server hadn't brought a steak knife and disappeared). To make it worse, my wife ordered soup. I had my steak for ten minutes before she was served. Again, the soup was good, but the service (from the kitchen as well as the server) was disappointing. read more
