We started in the village of Le Dey (reached by train from Geneva -- about 75 minutes) and hiked along the river to the caves. The walk takes under an hour and is very pretty and easy. There are plenty of signs so you know you are heading in the right direction. The self-guided cave tour (programs in English, French or German -- covered in plastic) costs 15 francs and takes about 45 minutes. You'll see lots of cool formations, including the source of the river crashing through caverns. Personally, I could have done without the weird New Age music and light show toward the end, but it's a minor quibble. There's quite a bit of walking along wet, grated walkways and, of course, it goes without saying, not much light. Recommend sturdy nonslip shoes and a fleece. The tour ends with a gallery of minerals and gems and some geological explanations. There's a cafe, bathrooms and picnic tables. We continued the hike to Le Pont, very steep and not for those with vertigo. That took another 2-3 hours. read more
