My husband is infatuated with the Grohmann Knife Factory in Pictou. The office/factory sells every kind of knife from hunting knives and kitchen knives to scuba-diving knives. What we enjoy most about the store is that it is a small, family owned business, and all their knives are made right here in Nova Scotia. The office/factory is a two-storey building with one big show room downstairs where all the knives are sold, and a factory upstairs where the knives are made. The knives are very reasonably priced (e.g., $30 for a hunting knife) and the store also offers a selection of "seconds knives" which are slightly imperfected knives sold at a significantly reduced cost. read more

I ordered 2 knives on August 10, 2020. My credit card was charged. I still did not receive my knives as of December 22, 2020. Grohmann customer support Cynthia, Darlene and Adrienne keep refusing to refund my money because they don't want to call Canada Post to sort it out. Most likely Canada Post lost the parcel. The sender should sort it out and refund the money. There is plenty of incompetence, indolence and neglect in this company in Nova Scotia. They don't answer the phones, the e-mails, they never call back. Mr Grohmann is spinning in his grave with such successors. read more

Wow! We were visiting Pictou for their annual lobster festival and happened to see Grohmann's outlet shop and decided to see what it was. I admit it, I'm a kitchen knife junkie who loves good quality knives. Normally great kitchen knives come from Germany or Japan so it was really wonderful to see locally made knives sold here and around the world. If you're not into cooking, they also have some incredible (and scary to me, the non woodsman) then there are outdoor knives of every use imaginable, from pocket knives to fish filleting knives to snow knives and whale flensing, whatever that is. You can find Grohmann's in Pictou pretty easily - just look for the building with a giant knife in the side of it :). Grohmann's is a specialty knife store and let me tell you, they carry everything. To basic steak knives to hunting knives, utility knives etc. We have a few Grohmann knives we got about 6 years ago and you can seriously notice the difference in quality. Whenever I see them in the drawer I always reach for them first, they make chopping/cutting whatever so much easier. I think they're pretty pricey but if you want a knife that will last you a long time or if you're a chef, or even just spend a lot of time in the kitchen I think you should splurge and come here. read more

I have used their services on two occasions and that will be it. The first time I got three sets of clipper blades sharpened, or should say paid for three sets to be sharpened and they only did two. I brought back the other within 3 minutes and said that the steel where the blades meet was not even polished or cleaned by the sharpening process and I did not think they were done? they assured me they were, but they were not. they asked if I wanted them in one hour when I dropped them off and I said no I would pick them up the next morning. I dropped in the next morning and they were not done, I came back the next day again and they still were not done. they were ready the third time. today I dropped off three more sets and wiped them and checked them before hand, when I picked them up an hour later they were done but this time they charged me an extra 9.50 and said they were covered in blood and grime? I use them to cut wool. obviously they were upset because I did mention the timing of the services and state of the one blade the first time I used their services. They were unprofessional and spiteful and did not appreciate what they perceived to be criticisms? I will not use them again. I did pay the extra charge without much of a fuss as I think they probably need all the help they can get? if you expect professional and courteous service you will not find it at Pictou Grohman knives. Purchased a Russel & Grohman belt knife for my husband. He had been looking without success in all the major retailers for such a knife to replace one that was stolen during a recent robbery of our Ontario home. We have just recently moved here and didn't know Grohmans was here. I went into the store not quite sure what I wanted. The young gentleman who served me was very knowledgeable and patient. Showed me several options. Too make a long story short my husband was thrilled. He even went back and bought a second knife. We will definitely shop here again. I have my eye on a set of beautiful steak knives. Excellent quality & workmanship. Great service. I hope this place stays around for a very long time. read more
