The x lean hamburger (halal?) Meat had pieces of bone in it. The chicken often had bad smells. I only purchase Prairie Chef products when on sale. I spend very little money there. The people are friendly enough. The girls and the native security guy are super friendly. The other guys, it hit and miss. Prices are high bc there's no other shop around for miles ( their other store on Portage closet) I never go to Pals on Broadway. Ever!

They have many local products as they support other local businesses. I can't recommend this business highly enough. It is so nice to be treated as an individual as opposed to a super market. Another great ethnic grocery store! This is great if you are looking for East Indian and Caribbean…read moreingredients. It's a small grocery store but I found everything I needed to make my Indian meal here. On the left side is the produce and frozen foods and the other side sells spices, canned/jarred items and various rice and flour. They also offer Western Union services. Oh and did I mention there are 2 counters that sell hair weave supply in there too? It was a little different as I've never seen hair weaves sold in a grocery store before but aren't we all about "one stop shopping" now? I saw lots of items there like regular and whole wheat naan (fresh and frozen), injera, corn tortillas, papadam, and roti. The produce and frozen meat section are pretty small. I don't think I saw any fresh meat. They carry halal items like chicken and goat. There's also lots of frozen Indian dishes - kinda like the frozen food section in the main stream grocery stores except this one is full of Indian items. Great offering of prepackaged spices (whole and ground) - no bulk section except when it comes to pulses like peas and lentils. Depending on the spice, they come in small portions that will cost you about $2 each. Not bad although some of the spices come in larger amounts than I would want to buy since I don't make Indian dishes all the time. There are also lots of dried chillies available too. Service was nice as one lady helped me look for items even though I was about pay. It's nice cause one of the items I was looking for was actually under a different name than what my recipe called for - I would've never found it if she hadn't helped me! Note: They do take credit card but I think there was a note about a minimum of $5? Something like that. But I don't like to use credit at these small stores - margins are already low in grocery so I don't want them losing 3% out to Visa or whoever.

I had always been curious of this little shop on Maryland with the nice mural on the side. This place is located just south of west broadway in a small building where the place is literally crammed with a million items. It's a bit of a sensory overload since I wasn't looking for anything in particular. There were lots of naan, pita and fresh injeera available! There was quite the selection of halal all beef salami, mortadella, and even bologna (who knew that existed as halal!). There were several types of middle eastern cheeses like halloumi. Lots of spices, canned goods, Turkish items, and frozen meat. Service is very friendly as one staff member offered to give me a tour of the place when I had more time. There were some prepared samosas and rotis (veg and meat filled) selling at the front near the cashier. Parking is available behind the store and on the side street for an hour.

Young's is probably the best supermarket in Winnipeg if you're looking for Asian/ethnic food…read more It's located on William Avenue west of the Exchange District, and seems to be a popular place for Red River College students. They have a wide assortment of Asian products such as rice noodles, beef/cuttlefish/fish balls, BBQ pork, miso soup, tofu, etc. Produce isn't of the best quality, but they are definitely cheaper than your No Frills/Safeway alternative, so take it or leave it. Personally I purchase most of my produce from Young's even though I live in Osborne (and have a Safeway 5 min walk from my house). If you're wearing a backpack entering the store, you'll have to put it at the front. The cashier at the front will tell you where to leave it. Definitely a place I will shop frequently, especially coming from someone who misses Asian cuisine.
