This review is in no way reflective of Centers For Pediatric Dental Sedation's actual dental work,…read morebut, in fact, a review on their ethical practices and lack of treatment explanation. They travel once a week to the Calhoun office, and that is where we came in for treatment. We had a referral from our dentist to have fillings completed because our son did not want to cooperate at his office. We came into the initial consultation thinking he would have fillings applied to the surface of his teeth. The dentist took about 5 minutes to review the x-rays and assure us with a big grin that everything would be ok and that he would in no time have my kid with a beautiful smile. At no point did he ever explain what a crown was or why exactly did my son need a crown. Our dentist referred us for fillings nothing else. On the day of, the staff was in an extreme rush to get set up, considering they shuttle into Calhoun and once again failed MISERABLY at explaining what was about to happen. They all hurried, had us sign paperwork and rushed my son to the back. My first shock was that he was given a shot right on his arm, instead of being placed on gas as I've seen many times during my surgeries. The second shock came in 5 minutes later when a young girl came in and told us not to freak out if he became stiff and rigid, it was at that point that I subconsciously began to realize these idiots had not spent one second to explain what was about to happen. Still, my dumb and ignorant self allowed everything to continue without asking a single question as to why they hadn't been more thorough with their explanations, yet the worst unexplained fact left out from everything was a detailed explanation of what a crown was. I've called my dentist and asked if he indeed thought my son's teeth were so bad that he needed crowns and said no, we referred you for treatment. We would have done fillings here if he had cooperated. But strap in the worst part was at the end. First the shock of finding out the worst possible way what a crown was, seeing my child's' entire upper gum bruised and purple. Then the same girl comes in to explain that he might wake up screaming or fighting. I've had a hundred questions for a week, and I have not been able to even sleep over the frustration and helplessness. This practice in my view either took advantage of the fact that treatment would be covered by insurance to upgrade unnecessary treatment on my child and failed MISERABLY at explaining thoroughly up front what exactly would happen. They know exactly what they are doing because at the end when my son began to scream in pain, they rushed us out the back door so none of the other oblivious parents would see. I wish I could at least get an apology from them, at the very least but I also wish every parent would find my review and understand how much they care for a thorough explanation. Ask ask ask questions, and if you don't agree with their treatment, please go somewhere else for another consult. There might be kids with teeth so rotten they do require crowns and this practice might be a miracle to them to us it was the worst that has ever happened in my life, and I've had kidney stones. Watching my son scream for hours was far more painful.

The dental office is beautiful but there is a fine line between being treated as a consumer instead…read moreof a patient. They offer private rooms at an additional $100 (optional) but only in the mornings and if you agree to a private room once- the office categorizes you as a patient who can graduate from that room but only based on the discretion of the people who are getting paid by such private room⁉They will refuse to schedule an appt with a regular room moving forward. You are stuck paying for the private room and front desk can't do anything about it. This feels unethical and not in the best interest of your patients. Every other dental office will offer you a private room due to hipaa and osha ( this is a clear violation) and not charge additional. The only difference is there is a door here and not a partition. At this office they make it so the chairs sit SO close together like in a dental college ( a dental bay is a clear osha violation) - that naturally the parent will request that private room bc all it takes is one crying child to scare the others. Either way, you do have to agree to it so it's not a secret either but again feels off and completely on purpose! This area is like the, "nicest," in the neighborhood I guess and the other offices around are pretty old, making it so that these type of businesses provide care in a different way, more like you're a number and not a person. The slide and toys are nice but not what most important here. It's too bad bc Dr.Diaz was very kind and the hygienists were lovely as well. Ultimately, I thought maybe I was not the target audience until the office manager called me back to smooth things over and never acknowledged the issue. She went out of her way to tell me why the have private rooms while still not addressing that the issue is they lock you into a room you have to pay $100 additional for and therefore cant even book a regular appt without their permission, the dr didn't bother to call me and Elaina even admitted there were no notes from Dr saying my son had to stay in private room. She kept saying you could graduate (wth?) I'm paying for this!! Delusional. This state is ranked the worst in health care, there is a reason.

Let me start off by saying that I have multiple chronic health issues that keep me from being out in the public much during this pandemic. I unfortunately recently broke a piece off of my molar and had to give in and make a dentist appointment. I have a tendency to avoid dentistry due to a dental phobia, so I went to this office in hopes of receiving sedation dentistry in a professional (and sanitary) setting. I called when I arrived (as I didn't want to take any unnecessary health risks) to ask to be alerted when my appointment began so I would not have to sit in the waiting room, and the receptionist snarkily informed me that pandemic restrictions had been eased--and that they would not come out to get me. She then tried to argue with me that cell service was spotty, so they wouldn't call me in my car either. This was despite the fact that I was on the phone with her with a GREAT signal from the actual parking lot. It was pretty empty, so I gave in and went inside a couple of minutes early. The office was filled with religious paraphernalia, which I found a little strange for a dentist office but not super unusual for the South. Then I turned the corner to see two receptionists wearing NO masks. Ironically, they took my temperature and then told me to sit in the waiting room. I mulled over the tiny list of possible scenarios where being maskless would be acceptable, and this situation qualified for none of them. I sat for a total of 3 minutes in the waiting room before deciding I wasn't going to put up with this in a medical establishment. I walked out and called to cancel. I told them why, and they had the nerve to ask if I wanted to reschedule!

The dentists are the absolute BEST within southeast Tennessee and so trustworthy! I had taken one of my children somewhere else and was told they needed a root canal. I went to Dr. Newman at Pediatric Dentistry and was told the tooth was a baby tooth that would come out in the few months and he would do it if I wanted but the pain my child would go through (not to mention the cost of the procedure) should be considered. Needless to say, the tooth came out in less than two months with no issues and no giant bill! On top of that he saw us at a moments notice when my youngest son was in pain after a procedure by the first dentist I took them to and he fixed it in no time. I don't trust anyone else with my children anymore. Pediatric Dentistry is the best!
