We drove/ferry from Bergen to Stavanger the day before. Spent the night in this quaint little town…read more We were told to get to the trail head early - it is about ~ 35 min drive from Stavanger downtime. We were one of the three cars when we go to the parking lot (around 6am).
Even the cafe and the guide shop wasn't open yet. It took us ~1.5hrs to get to the rock. The path to the rock is beautiful. The rock formations, the lakes and tarns are amazing. There are some steep areas and some almost flat land walking. Now we are hikers - it can take up to two ours or more if you have't done hike in a while. But it is still worth it. After we got to the rock - we were the 2nd couple to arrive there. We kept climbing further. That took another 2ish hours, again it was worth it. It felt like you are on a different planet and the views are out of this world.
It is definitely a must do. Easy to get to, clean trail, lots of amenities available at the start of the trail head. Parking lot is huge. Bathrooms are so clean and lots of it. You can't brush your teeth, wash your hair or take a shower in the public bathroom. Norway does an amazing job of trying to keep is clean -let's keep it this way.
Interesting fact - Nepalian Sherpas helped rebuild or improve the trails in 2016, they did a phenomenal job.

P.s - if you are an American tourist ( iam an America) please refrain from loud music, throwing your cigarette butts and garbage along the trail. Norway does their best to keep the trail clean and it was sad to see my fellow Americans completely disrespect the nature and do the things we are unfortunately known for...
