TDC took possession of the body about 4 hours after her death. Over the next week Victor was with us every step of the way. Because she died at home and we wanted cremation the Office of the Medical Examiner had to review the circumstances of her passing before issuing a permit for. Justin Mabrie's professionalism was key in the initial planning and his follow up helped us logistically as we neared the final service. He promptly returned texts and answered emails. Knowing Justin was behind the scenes gave me space to grieve and connect with family and friends. The mortuary is beautifully decorated with artwork from community artists. The space feels like a monument to the black experience and to family. I firmly believe that when services and products are both convenient and high quality a higher price should be expected. We honored my dad by not being stressed or worried about how the program would look or if the space would accommodate our guests. The Mabrie staff had everything covered. All my family had to do was be in the moment. That's all I had strength to do and for that I am truly thankful. The burial at Veterans Memorial was also supported by Justin and his staff. Although my fathers funeral was preplanned, we ran into obstacles from the beginning with the cemetary, as well as the military for planning the proper services for my dad. Mary Boudion, General Manager of Earthman Baytown was there and ready to help us figure things out. When the cemetary was not cooperative with us on a burial day, Mary stepped in and handled the cemetary staff both professionally and quickly to resolve the problem. When I was losing my cool, she calmed me down and assured me it would all be taken care of. Kendrick Herron, Funeral Director, was also very helpful in the planning of dads funeral. Kendrick took over handling the issues with the Military and helped us find all the information we needed and gave us direction on how to get what we need for Dad. Jim helped us on the day of burial, he was prompt, courteous, and handled all the graveside services professionally. The facilities at Earthman Baytown are clean, well decorated, and large enough to accommodate our needs.
