Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes

I wanted to give my review of Gentry Morrison Funeral Home having just laid my dad Josè Ortiz to…read morerest yesterday. Words alone cannot express the service that Gentry provided to my family and I. It's never easy to say goodbye to a loved one and the decisions a family must make after the passing of a family member are many and can be daunting if you have never been through the process before. My family and I went to several establishments here in Lakeland. The first having been a disaster Gentry was the second place we visited and we got a good feeling from Trey, he was thoughtful and informative and he was very patient with us after he gave us the quote we thanked him for his time. He never pressured us even when we told him we'd be visiting another establishment after. Well we went to the third establishment and the feeling we got was one that was cold and indifferent. The salesmen kept coming in and out of the conference room almost as if he was a used car Salesmen he dropped the itemized quote on the table. Never offering any information it was like pulling teeth to get information out of him. The moment we stepped out of that business with a capital B it became crystal clear who'd we'd use. We called Trey up immediately. I told Trey he made all the difference we felt our father would be in good hands with Trey and Gentry and once that decision was made Trey made the rest of the process almost stress free during an extremely stressful time. That's saying a lot. Trey and his team were attentive and reverent and we trusted Gentry to handle my fathers remains with the utmost care. The attention to detail at Gentry was second to none. I just can't say enough of the service they provided. They really showed they cared and when I learned they were a family owned business and not a big corporation like the other place, it made us feel even better to know we could support a family business. So thank you Trey and thanks to all of your ushers. Mr. Olivera was a gentleman and all the other attendants had a calming presence on the day of the wake and the day of the funeral. Thank you so much, you made a difficult time a lot easier by your caring service. We wish you well. Bill

I deeply regret choosing Spangler Cremation Service to cremate my beloved mother…read more It was my wish to have a lock of my mother's hair and a copy of her fingerprints before she was cremated. I paid extra for the fingerprints and watched Kevin write my requests on one of their forms. I stressed to Kevin that this was very important to me. I had not heard from them, so after 10 days I called to ask if I could pick up her ashes. They called back and said that they had "dropped the ball" on getting a lock of my mother's hair and her fingerprints. This has left me devastated and has caused great emotional turmoil. It was very important to me that my mother's remains were treated with dignity, so we read many reviews for several cremation businesses in the area. We weren't even looking for the cheapest service. We just wanted her remains to be treated with care. Although they state that they provide "compassionate care," the fact that they did not review the forms with my requests (which I watched them write down on the form before we paid for the service) before cremating my mother gives me little faith that they treated her with compassion or dignity. There are just some jobs that you cannot afford to "drop the ball" on. It is not like this was a coffee order that they got wrong. This was my mother's remains and I will never get her back. I will never be able to have a lock of her hair or her fingerprints like I wished. Handling the remains of our loved ones is sacred work and it seems like this business has been de-sensitized to the gravity of the service they provide. It is difficult to trust that I even have the correct ashes. And, as I said, the result of their carelessness has caused me great emotional distress. There is absolutely nothing that they can do to remedy this situation as it has left me utterly devastated. Please consider using someone else who will treat your loved one with dignity.
