I don't even know where to begin describing Griessmühle.
For starters, it's very close to the Sonnenallee station. Except you have to walk through a dark alley for about the length of a block before you get to the door. And by door, I mean a barbed wire fence with a large German bouncer. Bring someone who speaks German.
Cover was 10 EUR, and you get a stamp that allows you to come back any time the current party's still going on. This is an important point because we showed up on a Friday night and were told the party was meant to continue nonstop until Monday AM. Ridiculousness.
Once we got inside, it was a bit dead. There was always someone on the dance floor, but it never really turned into a full-fledged dance party. A lot probably had to do with the slow build techno they were playing (it never really peaked, but then again, if you're DJing for 12 hours, at what point is the climax?).
Anyway, by far the coolest part of this is the treehouses and random forklift pallet structures all around. Would I call it safe? Nope. In the US, this place would get shut down soooo quickly. Would I call it fun? Most definitely. There's just something about climbing a two and a half story wooden structure overlooking a bonfire. Or climbing up wooden pallets to get to a hidden platform above the bar. Or up a pool ladder to get to an old trailer that's been converted into a lounge.
There are also mini grain silos and a vintage cars hanging around for some reason.
When the sun came up, we realized there was also a canal of some sort next to the space, which was cool to sit next to.
Sadly, it never got too busy, so we didn't go inside. But there were still people streaming in and out at 6am. Must be a popular after-after-after party spot.
Everyone was super chilled out, and we made some new friends. Probably one of the most unique experiences I've ever had. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you get the chance! read more
