When you doom scroll, you come across many different places that are true hidden gems. Door To Nowhere, or Heigold House, is definitely an oddity and salute to the past. Some housekeeping, you know, things to know about this place. BE CAREFUL. This sits on a roundabout island with steady traffic. Be mindful to the traffic flow and businesses nearby (I parked at a nearby business off the road and walked over here). Be kind to the natural beauty that surrounds this. And most of all, be respectful. As I said, this sits on a roundabout with flowerbeds surrounding it. Whether you are facing front, as in looking at the front of the façade, or looking from the rear, please stay on the sidewalks provided. Take in the informational plaques as well. Built by Christian H Heigold, a successful stonecutter. Majority of the house was completed in 1853. Heigold was a master at stonecutting and completed the home with busts of Presidents George Washington and James Buchanan. Heigold was also a staunch opponent of the 'Know Nothing Party,' and anti-immigration political party and I would like to think that he built his house with all the busts was a big middle finger to those that were anti-immigration. This façade sat in what was known as the The Point neighborhood, which was favored by those that moved to the city from the New Orleans area. Once Louisville diverted the Beargrass Creek away from downtown, this place started to flood annually. Shifting people away from the neighborhood and then the Great Flood of 1937 happened. Slowly the city started buying houses and demolishing them. Ultimately using the land as a dump site. Then this façade was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. Remained in that area which became Thruston Park. That is until a developer bought the land adjacent to this and build condos. They moved this massive beast, 70,000-pounds, across River Road to where it sits today.

Very cool public art mural located on the side of a eatery off Baxter ave that pays tribute to the…read morelate great Muhammad Ali must famous catch phrase. Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The mural consist of a pair of boxing gloves with its angel halo (I assume created shortly after ali passing) and the left wing being a butterfly wing and the right wing being a bee wing. Very cool and unique. While the mural never mentions Ali name or the phrase or is obvious what the message is by the creative use of symbolism. Overall a great piece and while it's not very large and kinda hard to spot on the side of a building it may be one of my new favorite pieces because of the creativity.

Music alley gallery is a really cool mural in a downtown Lousiville alley off the theatre square…read moredistrict of the downtown area. The moral itself features musical instruments such as an electric guitar and musical notes with darker shades of black purple and blue. They also have some strong fairy lights at the top of the alley to give it a really nice and relaxing atmosphere. Overall a really cool and somewhat hidden area with a nice mural and a visually pleasing setup.

This location shares a spot with two other cool sights in the NoCo story time attraction and the NoCo wildflowers murals that surround the tower. Right across the street is "the depot" and "Picasso Pointe" which are very cool places to take in vibrant art and relax or let the kids run wild. Overall extremely cool place. The whole NoCo area I'm excited for to see where it goes and how it grows. I've definitely found a new spot to take my kids and spend a day at.

The six scenes are: the hookah smoking caterpillar; Alice holding her cat, with the Cheshire Cat in the background; the Queen of Hearts' frog servants; the Queen of Hearts; the Mad Hatter; and the White Rabbit. Alice in wonderland public art mural located on the side of the rabbit hole distillery in the Nulu…read moreneighborhood of Lousiville Kentucky. Nulu is stocked full of awesome and beautiful public art works. Thai Alice and wonderland rendering has added to that. So detailed, specific and well done. Everytime I walk by it I notice a detail that I haven't before. Overall a beautiful and wonderfully done piece of public art. I can see it becoming a favorite of many inside the city.

Located right next door to the patio lr a popular Mexican food eatery in that portion of town this mural gets lots of photos and serves as a backdrop for fun times and memories for others. Overall pretty basic but very well done and fun public art mural. Murals or art with anything wings (butterfly, angel, bird) always make for fun photo ups of standing in between the wings and pretending they are yours. So that happens a lot with this mural naturally.

I came across this mural in New Albany, Indiana. It's painted on the side of a large brick…read morebuilding, and the first thing that jumps out is the huge flowing figure of a woman with long copper colored hair. She almost looks like she's part of the wind her hair and dress swirl across the wall like music moving through the air. Around her are oversized lilies and bright stars, which makes the whole scene feel a little dreamy and theatrical. At the center behind her is a circular design with the words "New Albany Opera House 1866." That detail makes the mural feel like a tribute to the city's artistic past. The woman looks like she's singing or performing, reaching upward as if she's hitting a big final note. It ties the flowers, the stars, and the flowing shapes together into something that feels like music turned into color.

This building has been updated and converted into a space that houses multiple small businesses. You can't miss this mural as you're driving down Pearl Street in downtown New Albany. I saw it and had to get out of my car to take a photo and marvel at its Art Deco magnificence! The woman painted in the mural is definitely giving "The Lady of Shalott" vibes, and she looks like she's falling backward on a bed of flowers and butterflies, with stars coming out of her mouth. It makes me think of Tennyson's poem and also the Bjork song "Sun in My Mouth." Except homegirl has stars in her mouth. Carrie Johns, an artist from southern Indiana, is the person behind this wonderful piece of public art. If you are in the area, you should definitely check out this mural yourself.

I…read morelove street art, and this Shine Bright mural is a great example of the public art you might come across while you're in downtown Louisville. Louisville has a lot of public art, which is nice to see. Shine Bright is located across the street from the Frazier History Museum, under a bridge, in a seedy-looking area. Of course, my children and I headed straight toward it, because there's also a large "Louisville" metal sculpture by this mural, and my children wanted to climb on it. I looked to see if there was a signature scrawled somewhere on the mural, or some information telling us about the artwork, but I couldn't find anything. Internet searches proved fruitless, too. So I have no idea the meaning behind the Shine Bright mural, nor do I know who created it. So sorry. I just know it's cool and located in a cool place.

Shine bright mural is very ironically brightly colored and positive message public art mural in the…read moredowntown Lousiville section just off of museum row. You will find this piece sandwiched between a few pieces of public art to the left of these one way road. It sits directly next to the sculpture the Lousiville knot. If you look to one direction you can still see the world largest bay from Louisville Slugger. If you look the other direction you see the world largest vampire bat hanging off the building of caufields. The mural is tagged with an artist of slugger city. I am not familiar with the work of them and from my recollection this is the only piece of there I have seen. But they did a really good job and I like the baby blue use color in the shine bright wording along with the cardinal to the left that pays tribute to the cities official bird. Overall really cool piece that sticks out. maybe the artist has more works around the city I'll stumble upon. Or maybe. They will do more.

A bunch of twisted piping that at the beginning of it says the words "Louisville". I'm not sure the purpose or what it represents and after the words Lousiville it's kinda a mess and hard to determine what the design is. Overall it's still a unique piece to the city and kinda cool. In a weird spot so I'm not sure how much exposure it gets as the one way street people usually have merged on the expressway before hitting the underpass.

Intended to draw more visitors to this part of Louisville, this orange colored artwork is a series of tubes and lines. Literally, a knot that stretches about 165 feet.
