Dr. Ding has been my dentist for almost a decade now because he is phenomenal. He's knowledgeable, thorough, precise, kind, and honest. Two years ago I was on vacation in New Zealand and emailed him to see if he had a local referral since I was experiencing pain in an old crown. Even though it was during the Christmas season when most offices are closed, Dr. Ding emailed back promptly to say he did not but wanted to know exactly what I was experiencing, he recommended some relief techniques until I could return to see him. Very patient focused, answers questions in terms that are easily understood, and inspires confidence and trust that he'll provide you the best care there is. My experience with Dr. Ding at Smilecraft was great. I went on Aug 2021 for a regular checkup, it was my first visit. The office seemed to be taking sufficient Covid related precautions. They took me in on-time for my 10:15 appointment. Took my temperature, made me wash hands and asked me to do a mouth rinse for covid prevention. The office was very clean and well equipped. Dr. Ding was very knowledgeable and explained everything in detail and answered every question. I must say great bedside manner too. That definitely put me at ease. He was very thorough and probably spent almost 45 min explaining me my teeth X-rays and pictures to identify problem areas and further course of action. I'd say it does not get better than this - no rush, explain options, stress on prevention than cure, identifying long term risks and skilled. I had a root canal gone wrong and he referred me to a great endodondist in the area. I would definitely go back, and have recommended my wife do the same. read more

I've been going to the same dentist my entire life, and now that I live on the Peninsula, I just can't make it out to Danville anymore. Surprised by the lack of dentist reviews on Yelp, I used the Delta Dental website to find Dr. Ding. Dr. Ding is a courteous, professional, very intelligent, well spoken dentist. He has been at this location since 1985 and watched it grow and morph over the years. Everyone in the office (front desk, x-ray tech, hygienist) takes care to welcome and introduce themselves and each other. Dr. Ding took care to explain everything we was doing. He took pictures of my teeth and the areas of concern. He demystified my dentist experience by explaining what various things mean and how my previous history is influencing my teeth now. He made me feel at ease and like I've found the dentist for me. I got encouragement to floss more as well as a new toothbrush and recommendations of what to use and realistic expectations of how often I should be using them. Overall, a very positive and informative experience. I've already got my next appointment booked. One more thing, he's got evening hours on Mondays. UPDATE He sent me a hand written thank you card. I love my dentist. How many people can say that? When I first came to California, I tried some other dentists, and they were okay, really. But when I started seeing Dr Ding, it's like I'd found my way back home. He's efficient, professional, and gentle. But at the same time, encouraging. Some dentists are like tooth fascists, but Dr Ding is more like a tooth coach. You leave feeling pumped that you have a plan. I wouldn't even consider going anywhere else unless Dr Ding told me to. I was a very tough case, having virtually no teeth and needing to have dentures put in. Dr. Ding created a model of what my mouth would have been like with teeth, and then worked from there to create a mold for my dentures. The dentures came out perfectly, fitting like a glove and producing no pain from friction points.. Dr. Ding worked very hard to accomplish this and his first priority was my comfort and the quality of my dentures. He did not send in to have the denture made until he was absolutely positive that they would work. He is was very professional and had a genuine concern for my comfort and well-being during the whole process. I would highly recommend Dr. Ding to anyone. He is very gentle and kind and only does the work you need NOT like other dentists I have been to in the past! All staff is wonderful. Only downside is they are closed Fridays. Dr. Ding and his team is awesome. He's very professional and was extremely knowledgeable during my teeth cleaning. He even pointed things out with my x-ray, like my "shallow" teeth roots. He explained it's common with people who had braces, which I wore for 2 years when I was a teenager; my orthodontist moved my teeth too aggressively in order for my roots to fully form and develop. My teeth were clean and shiny. I entrust my teeth care with Dr. Ding. (Random side note: He's the only dentist who did not say my teeth were beautiful. I don't know why it never occured to me to Yelp my favorite dentist! He was my dentist all through high school, then when my mom's insurance plan switched to something else, Dr. Ding was out of my network. Now that I have my own plan, he was the first dentist I looked up and rejoice! He's in my network. Dr. Ding really makes my dental experience awesome, because he really listens to what you have to say and addresses any AND EVERY concern (trust me, my concerns range from teeth movement to a tiny chip that is so microscopic that only I can see). He is extremely professional and candid in answering your questions, and I mean, I wish I could speak as eloquently as this guy. The dental assistants are extremely detail-oriented and talk you through what they're doing to your mouth. And Kristy, the receptionist, is awesome because EVERY time I have had an appointment, I have to at least reschedule 3 times (because he's booked all the time).. but she's so nice about it and calls you a day before as a reminder. It's not often that I use "pleasurable" and "dentist" in the same sentence. Ew, not like that, you pervs. Dr. Ding is a consummate professional and I'm glad that I found him here on Yelp. I've never been to a dentist that took pictures of the inside of my mouth and used a laser pointer and calm demeanor to show me what was up with my mouth health. I found Dr. Ding on Yelp, so I figured I should review him. The only reason I'm not giving him 5 stars is because if your call goes to voicemail, it takes forever (over a week) for the receptionist to get back to you! I came to Dr. Ding because living for a few years in California but only going to the dentist when I went home got annoying. I had my first visit with Dr. Ding a couple of weeks ago. After filling out the standard forms I was escorted to a small, but clean exam room. After an x-ray by a technician, Dr. Ding came in and asked me all sorts of questions about my medical and dental histories. He was very kind and thorough with his questions and he has a calm, gentle voice. After the questions, he cleaned my teeth himself instead of having a dental hygienist do it. He was very gentle and talked me through everything he was doing and seeing in my mouth and even used the camera to show me some stills of my teeth on the TV screen. I'm fairly certain many of the 5 star reviews on here are fake. The service provided is average and the dentist is generally polite but a little strange. Some of the questions asked on their questionnaires are a little much/intrusive. The office is small, in a modest building, and rooms are tiny, making visits awkward. There wasn't anything to make me consider giving this office/dentist more than 2-3 stars. They also don't provide you with any samples at the end of your visit. read more

I have had only 3 appointments with Dr Ding so far but since this is the time of the year when procrastinators like me need to find a dentist ASAP, I thought I would share my experience right away. First of all, I have to say that my background with dentists is...not easy. I have bad teeth, a collection of bad experiences and probably a fair share of psychological issues. My previous dentist kicked me out because she did not know how to handle my stress- and the fact that I came only for emergency did not help - Anyway, I had lost 2 fillings for...a while.. and knew that my attitude was not helping (& also I was paying a dental insurance that I never used) so I spent a fair amount of time crossing the list of the Delta Dental dentists with the ones that had good ratings on yelp and quite frankly, they were not very many..except for Dr Ding. During my first appointment...I cried (quite typical for me in a dental office) But Dr Ding was very calm and soothing. He did not jumped right away on my mouth. He asked me about my dental history and how I ended up fearing dentist the way I do. He then looked at previous Xrays (the ones made but the dentist who kicked me out), and emphazised the good part of what he saw (still I need to do quite a bit of work but he told me what I was ready to hear). He pinpointed what he considered to be the priorities (an infection about a former root canal) and refered me to a specialist. I really liked that he did not start with what he would be making money on. He even warned me against the zeal of some specialists who would probably push me to do some work that might not be useful. For the second appointment, I decided to start slowly and ask for a cleaning. He did it himself. Apparently my electrical toothbrush does its job and since the plaque was easy to remove, he did not use the scary vibrating tool dentists usually use (I suspect this is one of his trick to make me feel confortable) Appointment 3: Filling! I came prepared: Valium, MP3 player... Dr Ding told me that if everything goes well I should not feel anything AT ALL. I did not really believe him at first but...I did not feel anything at all..And again, he spent a lot of time making me feel confortable. He even did some kind of countdown during the (painless) injection et quite frankly, that really helps... Today I feel that I might be able to take control of my dental health again. I need to take another appointment soon and I am not having cold sweat thinking about it. Dr Ding does not provide nitrous oxide but seriously, HE is the best nitrous oxide you can find. I have good reasons to think he is honest (and will not pull out my teeth just to make money) so I feel that I can trust him OKAY That was quite a long review.
