Great service! There was a mistake with our food purchase and the item was refunded and corrected without hesitation.

I love LOAF! There, I said it! For a gal who has actively avoided bread for years, there's no point…read morefighting it! A presence on Stirchley High Street since 2012, it's only since moving closer to the area that I have stumbled across this place (thanks to the Brum food scene social media). Fresh loaves of sourdough, rye, sweet buns, and changeable lunches everyday - the salt beef if heaven - bring something special to the area. Add in their popular cookery school and 'takeover' evenings - last night it was a Chicken Shop takeover - and this community bakery serves more than just hungry tums...it is good for the soul too!

I went on one of Loaf's bread making courses back when it was run in the director's house and it…read morewas lovely to finally be able to go back and see the bakery in it's not-so new location. Having the day off I popped in when they'd just opened and was pleased to see a steady stream of people popping in to pick up bread - something I didn't expect for a mid-week lunchtime in the suburbs. The bread isn't as cheap at the stuff in the supermarket, but it's handmade and delicious. I picked up some focaccia, which was glorious, and also some of their lunch offering which was a decent portion for the price. I hear there can be queues at weekends and they often run out early so it's worth heading down sooner rather than later.

When is a greasy spoon cafe likely to be a good greasy spoon cafe? I'd wager that the location of…read moreThe Golden Coin is pretty much a textbook example. It's situated on a busy main road (check!), there's a pub nearby (check!), there is a plumbers merchant and heating supply shop used all-day, every-day by tradesmen (check) and there is an industrial estate yards away (check!) and, finally, the cafe opens very early and shuts up shop mid-afternoon (check). All of this ought to tell you that if the Golden Coin offered substandard food in stingy portions for high prices, it would have been found out long ago. The opposite is the case. This is a classic British cafe doing what classic British cafes do best: Hearty food, brilliant tea, and no messing about. If you are in the area (and it's before 2.30pm) you should grab a fry up here.

I found this place as a friend recommended it to me and said that they do the best greasy breakfasts and so, nursing a hangover one morning, I decided that was just what I needed to sort myself out. It was fairly busy when I first went in as I think that everyone in the area knows just how good it is. I ordered a full English and a large cup of tea, which I had topped up as I soon drank it quickly; it was good and strong too, just how I like it. The breakfast was amazing, tasty and greasy and just full of flavour! It is amazing how a few fried foods can taste so good!
