We got to see Dominick Grillo & The Frenchmen Street All-Stars play, and boy what a hit! We stayed for nearly the whole time they were on stage. Now when I think of New Orleans, I think of them and all the music they played. We ordered a few drinks, but I think the Just Peachy was my favorite. The Cat Nip was also very tropical! There is a one drink minimum, but if you don't drink I believe they have plenty of mocktails to choose from. You do want to get there early, because the seating fills up FAST. There's not a ton of places to sit, so you might be standing for awhile. For those with mobility issues, you may want to consider bringing a small cushion. The majority of the seating is hard wood and not the comfiest for sitting for long stretches. If you're looking for good music, this certainly is the place to be!

Picture exceptional musicians playing traditional jazz in your living room or backyard. There are no frills, light shows, just benches and standing room areas which allow you to be transported back in time when jazz was king. From their website: "Operating as a family business, Preservation Hall supported the unique culture of traditional jazz in New Orleans, which developed in the local melting pot of African, Caribbean, and European musical traditions at the turn of the 20th Century. Preservation Hall was a rare space in the South where racially integrated bands and audiences shared music together during the Jim Crow era." I would strongly suggest that you purchase your tickets well in advance as these shows sell out. In the past the Hall was BYOB and there were no rest rooms. They have upped their game and there is a full bar and bathrooms! Each show is only 45 minutes in length for those 45 minutes you are in for a truly magnificent experience.

Also appreciated that the volume wasn't over the top as we could still converse at our table even though a speaker for the venue was directed right at us not too far away. In all fairness, this review might be very influenced by the musical act that was performing, the Tin Men. Just a guitar, sousaphone, and a washboard, but they knew how to sound like so much more. The guitarist and the washboarder took turns at vocals as well as singing together and they each were outstanding. They were the best music we heard throughout our time in town.
