The opposing party claimed that I owed them approximately $2,730, while I maintained that they owed me approximately $7,460. When I hired the firm, I was told to pay $1,000 for them to handle the court appearance and seek a continuance. I paid the requested amount. What happened afterward was very straightforward. The attorneys appeared in court for me one time, I received approximately two emails from them, and shortly afterward the matter was resolved. The opposing party agreed to a settlement under which I would pay approximately $1,080 and the money owed to me would be addressed. I accepted that resolution. I was therefore extremely surprised and disappointed when the law firm's charges ultimately reached approximately $3,000. I fully understand that attorneys charge for their time and that additional legal work can result in additional fees. My concern is transparency and communication. Based on what was explained to me when I hired the firm and paid the initial $1,000, I did not expect that one court appearance and limited email communication would result in legal fees of approximately $3,000. Had I been clearly informed in advance that the fees could reach that amount, I would have had the opportunity to make a different decision. For me, this was an extremely disappointing experience. I strongly caution anyone considering hiring this firm to be very careful and to fully understand the financial agreement before allowing any work to begin. Ask for the hourly rate, what every type of communication or court appearance will cost, whether the initial payment is only a retainer, and an estimate of the total expected legal fees. Get everything in writing. I have documentation relating to my payments and billing, and I am describing my own experience. Based on that experience, I would urge potential clients to carefully review the fee agreement and billing practices before deciding whether to hire this firm.
